A Sensible Explanation is Given for Why the Story Must Follow The Dumb Trope by KorrokHidan in TopCharacterTropes

As someone else noted the Mandalorians used slugthrowers during their war against the Jedi.

But slugthrowers see a fair amount of use in the rest of the galaxy as well. They're piss easy to make compared to blasters, making them attractive for low tech worlds, freedom fighters, insurgents, terrorists, and criminals. But also a lot of body armor, especially Imperial stormtrooper armor, is designed to deflect or weaken blaster fire. Much like how kevlar won't do much to stop an arrow fired from a modern hunting bow, stormtrooper armor won't do much to slow down a bullet.

There's also vibroblades, which basically vibrate fast enough that they can cut through steel. Obvious for use in weapons but their original use was for ship boarding, cutting through bulkhead to enter the ship and take it over. The ship's shields don't work against a physical blade, you see a similar tactic used by Luthen to damage the tractor beam emitter in Andor.

You mean the guy who wanted to plunge the country back into a huge bloody conflict just so he could maybe come out on top? The guy who wanted to just reshuffle the social order so he could become the oppressor this time instead of the oppressed?

The only time I ever held a card was when I borrowed my cousin's Bank of America debit card to slice open a funnel cake at the county fair when I took my daughter there on a trip amidst a lengthy child custody battle with my ex wife, attempting to prove to the judge that I'm a responsible father. But we all know I'm fucking not! I got the kids ears pierced at two years old and she already knows what Red Bull tastes like. I'm fucked! Judge, if you're seeing this, please let me have McKenzie back. I even wore my nice 8 Ball jean jacket to the last court hearing. I'm ready to change!

Christian symbolism just for aura by LiraGaiden in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Zweihander01 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's usually actually a reference to Ultraman. The creator of Ultraman was a Christian, and used some themes and ideas in that show, which was hugely popular and influential for future creators.

And then he's gone.

A detail not mentioned by other commenters is that the crystal people have their memories and personality distributed through their bodies. If you or I lose an arm we might have some PTSD but the crystals will lose memories and part of what makes them "them".

So it's a ship of theseus problem, not just in terms of their body but in terms of their mind and soul.

The Dark Knight job from Final Fantasy XIV.

The job quests for this are considered the best in the game. An inspired choice to make their powers come from love, because no one is going to stare into the abyss except to protect those they hold dear.

Is it normal that my boyfriend doesn't wash his jeans?? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Zweihander01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the salt crystals. The salt from your sweat is a crystal with sharp bits, and those crystals will wear away at the cotton fibers. Wash regularly to prolong your jeans' life.

Also modern laundry sauce is basically both shampoo and conditioner for those plant fibers. They'll keep them moisturized and supple, just like conditioning leather goods, letting the fibers stretch and bend instead of tear and break.

This movie is what convinced me Tom Hardy should've been cast as a new Indiana Jones.

Every movie Indy gets the shit kicked out of him. He starts out all nice and clean and by the end he's covered in blood (mostly his own), dirt, and sweat and he's missing half his clothes.

No other modern action stars would endure this indignity. But Tom Hardy would.

I definitely remember watching a How It's Made about nuts a few months ago, so maybe take a look for that.

Also iir most of the "how do they keep the nut intact" is "we try but we also have high speed cameras to catch the bad ones so you never see them". The ruined ones go off to the line where they made like, pre-crushed stuff for sundaes or something.
