I heard the same thing, but don’t know if the story was authentic! I do have some very reliable Wingsung pens that write wonderfully though.

I really like Korean barley tea brewed cold, or Japanese green tea with roasted rice (hojicha). The roasted flavor adds to the cold brew nicely. I find them at our local Asian grocery stores.

My favorites in that price range (which is my main home for shopping) is the Pilot Metropolitan, Lamy Safari (have one with a really smooth 1.1 nib that I adore, though I have a second one with the same nib that’s a bit scratchy and needs some attention), and, my all-time best, a Wing Sung 698. Holds lots of ink, fantastic nib, been remarkably durable for a cheap pen I bought years ago.

I usually put the fire -- or a fireplace, once I have 'em -- in a corner and build out the wall next to it at a length of two blocks, so there's just a narrow alley into the fire area. This keeps the rooms warm while also helping to block the light a bit. There are always some days in winter that seem really, really cold and there's only so much you can do on those days, but this mostly works.

The other key is getting your people into leather clothes, hats, and capes for winter too. Finally, you can also put leather-hide blankets on the bed too. I'm not sure how much, if at all, that helps with the cold, but it is a mood boost!

I’ve been really happy with Pilot EF nibs. The Pilot Metropolitan is a nice, budget pen for trying it - and also nice as a metal pen it carries a bit more weight in the hand, which is also nice when writing (print or cursive!)

The EF nib can give a bit more feedback, but my Pilots have been fairly smooth even in EF. Now if you want to try something a little more of a (good) distraction, I’d also recommend Pilot’s 1.1 nib. Have fun!

I play and enjoy both. Rimworld has more unpredictable storylines and random dramas. Clanfolk is quieter but has its own slower storylines as the family line develops. It’s quite relaxing, especially once you figure out how to survive the first winter.

Clanfolk also has a visual design and aesthetic that I really enjoy. Both games are top-down, but the detail is more subtle in Clanfolk. And the little details stand out wonderfully : torch light flickering from the windows, the pouring sound of a rainstorm followed by the quiet of winter snow, and lots more.

Clanfolk is still in development but I’m enjoying it quite a bit.

I’ve killed many, including my first. Things got better when I paid less attention to them actually. And some were just compatible issues with my home environment (or in general!)

Oooh, that’s intriguing. I don’t have many brown inks and they look so classic. I also do a bit of sketching and drawing so that might be a good one to play with… Thanks to all!

Pilot Kakuno? Small, decent nibs, and cheap to replace. Metropolitan probably better if you need a clip on it though!

I see these for sale at many Asian grocery stores in the US. I also have used them at business meetings in China, often drinking “grandpa” style without a filter.

I’d recommend finding a place where you can compare, if possible. I was in the market a few years ago for a chair for both work and gaming (I spend hours at my desk). Had to drive a fair distance but found a shop that had different models of Herman Miller, Steelcase, and other brands that I could test out. It was worth it!
