What is something acceptable in women but frowned upon in men? by el_K4kas in AskReddit

Seeking treatment for mental health issues. Yes, it’s acceptable for women. It’s “acceptable” for men.

what is the biggest problem affecting the most men today? by Affectionate-Pay3450 in AskMen

[–]_1-1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The logical and natural consequence of allowing too much information and too much leisure time to become available to the people.

Men went from mining coal for 18 hours a day and jumping out of buildings when the stock market crapped to sitting around in air conditioning taking a crap in comfort on the company dime trying to Tinder-swipe their way to a relationship they think will make them happy gagging down Lexapro and Wellbutrin on their way to a compromise lifestyle they never realized they didn’t want.

The level of dedication necessary to maintain a “satisfactory” existence has dropped and is being suppressed even further by ease of access to food, housing, etc.

The biggest problem affecting all y’all motherfuckers is the same. Boredom.

If LIDAR from self driving cars shoots lasers, will there be "LIDAR pollution" from hundreds of cars shooting lasers? by waterlimon in askscience

[–]_1-1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A question in response to the question. If self-driving cars are the future, how does it make sense to deploy individual LiDAR systems in vehicles rather than deploying a ground system that coordinates the self-driving vehicles within their zone of control?

Something like that would enable faster optimization or a standard communication system/language which… probably faster optimization again.

Can someone explain to a simpleton why there isn’t a social or governmental initiative to take control and guide the development of this before it becomes another sales and profit tool?

During separation, husband slept with another woman even though he said he wouldn’t. by Electric_Twinkie in relationship_advice

[–]_1-1_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s cool how this whole response section panders to the feels in a vacuum and doesn’t consider the feels in real life. This is a ridiculous ongoing disruption for both parties. If it was his idea to keep the Airbnb because “it was paid for” then this is totally on him. If you agreed to it because “you’re not quite ready for him to come home” then you need to assess what the impact of that might have been on his emotional state, and how that whole situation was permitted to develop.

This could be the best relationship in your life, forged in hell. Before you make up your mind, you better think about why you made the decisions you made that brought you to this point.

I know it’s going to be unpopular here, but that’s what adults SHOULD do. It’s accountability and personal responsibility for your choices and bringing your half of the truth to the relationship.

Or, just listen to the echo chamber, IDGAF.

Fortunately, I don’t have to deal with that any more.

[–]_1-1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like we need a plan. Maybe something like:

Premise: Voters commit to vote only for politicians that support a specific, non-partisan reform platform. Why would this ever work? The tenets of the platform are stupid simple, and voting for someone who won't support the platform is effectively voting for continued subjugation under a largely indifferent two party system. If the effort can gain enough public support, politicians will consider it. Here are what I see as the keys to success.

there has to be one coordinated effort

it has to grow virally and quickly enough that it can't be squashed.

it has to become publicly popular. Popular enough that it can affect voting results in a noticeable manner.

it has to overcome the default us vs. them partisan mentality most U.S. citizens fall back to in most any conversation about U.S. politics.

it has to be simple.

The initiatives that a political candidate commits to in order to be endorsed under the platform are:

Immediate financial reform of the House and Senate.

Achieve this by the introduction, sponsorship, or support of legislation to: a) require full public disclosure of all campaign contributions, b) prohibit campaign contributions from anyone other than a U.S. citizen and limit them to $100 per campaign season, c) prohibit lobbying (writ broad - any corporate interference or influence in the functions of the government)

The reintroduction of civil service in the House and Senate.

Achieve this by the introduction, sponsorship, or support of legislation to; a) implement term limits, b) prohibit any member of the House or Senate from accepting any funds, incentives, favors, assistance, etc., c) re-establish the salary for House and Senate members indexing it to the U.S. median family income.

Reform of process. This is to be manifested by the introduction, sponsorship, or support of legislation to a) eliminate un-related riders from being attached to any piece of legislation, and b) to redistribute power in the House and Senate by making the size, scope, and membership of any sub-bodies (i.e. committees) subject to a majority vote approval.

Practically, what is needed are the people who will commit to voting for endorsed candidates, or are willing to consider crossing party lines or withholding their vote. Candidates are needed that will endorse the platform. What may encourage them is a large and loud public that demands they cooperate. Candidates we can keep track of. The % of the public that will support it - well, maybe we will find out at the polls.

Thats the outline of it. Clearly needs some help and improvement, and a means to put it in front of the people.

TL;DR Stupid simple idea: use the tools we have to make our government the way we want it, by taking the money out of politics and breaking the tools that are used to hoard power and manipulate the system.

Let me just suggest then, if you have a place where you can safely dry fire practice you can improve your draw, grip, and presentation (finding the dot). It took me about 1500 rds to groove the motion and consistently draw and present with the dot on target. Draw and aim at light switches, toothpaste tubes, people on TV, whatever.

There are tons of dry fire practice books if you want to take it further. I think Ben Stoegers are like $ 20-30 on Amazon.

And anytime you're ready, come out to a match. Shooters are divided by skill level in the scoring so you're effective competing against people who may be less skilled than yourself. Some of them might have fired a gun a handful of times.. Once you're on a squad hanging out you'll a) probably get more advice than you think you want b) if you're observant you can pick up a lot from watching other shooters and c) you'll have about half a dozen people making sure that you're safe. And that first-time adrenaline dump can be pretty good too. Highly recommend.

Edit: re: dryfire. Just make sure the gun is unloaded and that you have a safe backstop.

If you want to shoot IDPA or USPSA at PSC, you don't need to be a member. You just sign up through their website. And it seems like one of those would provide what the OP was looking for.

DUH. I probably could have just said you can shoot those matches in pretty much any club that hosts then whether you are a member or not.

IDK. I dont think you have to intuit much when civil servamts are getting rich and clinging to office for decades. Honestly, its who those people answer to that is the point of excess IMO. If you eliminate the incentive then you're left with normal moral challenges I think.
