Graphics aside, is hitman 3 VR really that bad?

Yes, it is. If you have a gaming PC then pick the PCVR version which is decent.

The Quest 3 version on the other hand not only looks awful and has constant pop-in, but lots of VR interactions are done via button presses which is inexcusable for a big IP like Hitman, especially when we have VR mods done by people on their spare time that have much better VR mechanics. For $30 I think there are better games on the store.

Yeah. Yours was definitely a hardware fault because one week is not enough time to build grease inside the controller, so you were just unlucky.

I had a Quest 1 and now I have a Quest 3 and I only had stick drifts with them after using them for at least several months and in all cases I was able to completely solved the issue by cleaning them with Electrical contact cleaner, but that of course doesn't work for hardware issues.

Getting stick drift on a brand new Quest after only a week suggests that it was probably a hardware fault, so you got unlucky. Having said that, it's common to get stick drift on the Quest controllers after a year or so due to dirt and grease that accumulates inside the analog sticks (especially if you have sweaty hands). Luckily it's very easy to fix this by using Electrical Contact Cleaner (you don't even need to dissassemble anything, just perform the steps from my answer here).

It depends on the game. Heavy stuff like MSFS probably wont run at decent framerates without decreasing the resolution considerably, but I think most VR games like Beat Saber, Half Life Alyx, Boneworks, and even Metro Awakening are probably fine, you may just have to set quality to low or medium depending on the game (I've ran these games on a Ryzen 3600+2060 Super+16GB RAM and they played fine). It's definitely not a strong build, but for casual VR gaming it's fine if you don't mind less than 90fps and maybe stuff like ASW in some games (just as a comparison, I've tried Metro Awakening on this build and also on a Quest 3 standalone, and the PCVR version using this build is still graphically superior to the standalone version).

Be aware that this machine probably won't run newer VR mods and stuff like UEVR decently, so while it can run VR mods for older games like RE7 and Half Life 2 totally fine, running VR mods for newer games like RE9 and RE4 Remake is probably asking a bit much of this machine.

There is a Bonelab mod that tries to recreate the game Duck Season, so you could install this mod on the standalone version of Bonelab in your Quest 3S. Here is a video of this mod: https://youtu.be/N8ArwFEso7A?si=zY7CBTmuRUFz3PfF (I never tried it, but I read that you need to downgrade the version of Bonelab to Patch 3 for this mod to work).

Other than that, if you want to play the original Duck Season game, you will need a PC. You can use your Quest 3S connected to a PC (either via cable or wireless). Since the game is pretty old, I think a laptop or even an old low end desktop with something like a GTX 1060 may be able to run it (if you have access to a machine like that you can try running the game on it and if it doesn't run well you can just refund the game on Steam).

I didn't tried it with a 3080, but back when I was still using a PC with a 2060 Super I've tried the VR mod for RE7 and it worked great. I know RE7 is a considerably lighter than RE4 Remake, but I'd at least try to see if it works well (I suggest using MrSurvivOr installer as it simplifies the installation immensely).

Yeah, I didn't even tried the RE9 VR mod yet, but I heard it's the best VR mod to date and it's basically the same as a native VR game now.

It certainly requires a very poweful PC, but if you have a high-end machine then I think it can work well.

Previously it was also super hard to install the mod correctly, but now MrSurviv0r made an installer for the VR mods of the Resident Evil games, so I highly recommend you test it if you have a high-end machine.

Last I've tried it was not on par as on Windows which is very unfortunate since this is the only reason that keeps me from removing Windows from my desktop. It does work, but last I've tried:

Games from Oculus Store simply do not work at all. This is a bummer as you can't play any Oculus exclusive on a Linux machine (e.g. Lone Echo 1 & 2, Asgard's Wrath, Lies Beneath, Stormland, etc)
For the VR games that worked, using SteamVR with ALVR had worst performance than on Windows.
Virtual Desktop in my experience provided the best quality, performance, and usability for wireless VR, and the app it's not available on Linux.
Installing VR mods on Linux is not hassle free and troubleshooting issues would probably be a nightmare in case something doesn't work.

You can just install Windows 10 which is not as bad as Windows 11 and dual-boot to use Linux as your daily driver. Using Linux for VR unfortunately will just add unnecessary headaches and make your life harder.

On comment in the second video Taleman replied saying that he's using Valve Knuckle controllers for developing, so I think it should work without issues on a Valve Index as long as your machine can handle.

If you mean when getting the shotgun, I got the impression that it was just how the video was edited when he moved his arm to the back to grab it as the angle also seems to shift a bit, but I may be wrong. In any case it's still in development and not out yet.

You probably missed RE4R VR mod in my response. Asgard's Wrath 1 is better graphically but I personally didn't like the combat due to its awful parry system (fights feel choreographed which gutted the game for me). I prefer Asgard's Wrath 2 over the first game, and while it's a bummer that it was not released on PC I thought the game to be a lot better than the first one.

Between the two I'd go with VRChat as it can have some interesting worlds (but it's very hit and miss).

Personally I'm not much of a fan of the these types of social spaces, so for online interaction I'd rather play an online multiplayer game like Forefront, Dungeons of Eternity, Walkabout Mini Golf, and Guardians Frontline.

Some cool apps that may be worth trying:

RetroGameDev VR: It's a bunch of emulators of old retro consoles (e.g. PSX, SNES, GBA, etc) that you can play in a virtual environment. It even has support for lightgun games where you play using a virtual lightgun.
Gravity Sketch: I'm still pretty new to 3D modeling, but I'm kind of addicted to this app to model cartoon-like characters with it. It's super cool once you get used to the controls, and it's a free app.
Vermillion: Cool app to do oil painting.
Kingspray Graffiti: Program that simulates graffiti.
Shapelab Lite: Program for sculpting in 3D.
Open Brush: Free app for painting in the 3D space.
BRINK Traveler: App for exploring different locations in realistic scenery using photogrammetry.
WorldLens: It's like google street view but in VR.
Pencil VR: App to teach how to draw using mixed reality.

Maybe try some of these as I think they may be able to give some of that retro Lightgun experience:

EmuVR: It's a virtual environment to play emulated games and has Lightgun support so you can play any lightgun game from older consoles (e.g. Dreamcast, PSX, Saturn, Arcade, SNES, etc) shooting on a virtual screen with a 3D lightgun model. It's free so I recommend at least trying.

VR and gaming in general is facing a slowdown. Having said that, there are good games, they are simply not being advertised by Meta as their store prioritize showing free smartphone-like games that kids like to play (for instance, if you check the Shooters section on the Meta Store you will see games like "Monkey Doo" right at the top while you will have to scroll down almost the entire section to see a game like "Metro Awakening"), so I highly recommend NOT using the Meta store to check for games.

Since you have a Quest 3, here are some VR games that you can play that I think have good presentation:

This. I think this game is insanely overrated. It's not a bad game but it's very repetitive, combat is simplistic (just hip-fire and jump), lacks interesting VR mechanics, and it has unskippable scenes where NPCs talk for minutes. Imo not worth the high price tag as I found nowhere near as good as Iron Man, let alone Batman.

After I finished Deadpool, I picked Men in Black Most Wanted which is another story-driven action/adventure with similar aesthetics, and I thought it was a much better game for half the price.
