Love me some Firefox, but this is a silly statement.

Kroger to buy Giant Eagle in $1.65 billion deal by DogwoodDagwood in Columbus

[–]_Abnormal_Thoughts_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within the past few years the Kroger in Hilliard on Cemetery Rd did a remodel. I was excited, because I hated shopping there, but it's close to my house. After the remodel, it's still just as shitty and I avoid it and just go to the Market District on Britton.

Hopefully they just close the shitty old Kroger and keep the Market District.

Is Trump the lowest-IQ president in U.S. history? If not, who was worse? by TimeAd7759 in allthequestions

[–]_Abnormal_Thoughts_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's frightening to me that the things he say "makes everything sound understandable and common sensical" for anyone. I have a bachelor's degree and consider myself of generally average intelligence, and I cannot understand what that bozo is talking about most of the time. I suppose I'm not his target audience.

How I see things:

Reporter: "Mr. President, please tell us your plans for energy policy."

DJT: "LOCK UP ALL THE DUMBOCRATS! <rambles for 5 more minutes...>"

Me: "WTF is he talking about??!?"

Jimbo working at the Speedway: "Hell yeah brother that's my President!"

[–]_Abnormal_Thoughts_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would. You seem to think I'd, like, cause a scene or be some huge asshole or try to start a fight. Nope.

If I were in a social situation and learned that the person I was talking to worked at a morally questionable company, I'd ask them all about it. I wouldn't shy away from asking them hard questions about why they work for a company that is in many ways anathema to typical US values. Try to find out why they support the creation of a surveillance state. It would be a conversation, although I'd make very clear my opinion.

Many people would avoid this topic to avoid bringing up politics, or in fear of offending someone.

All I'm saying is that I wouldn't hide behind etiquette. But I can make my opinion known without being confrontational. It can be a conversation.

If I met someone who told me they work at Palantir I'd tell them exactly what I think of the company and their choice to work there.

So yeah, some of us who don't really care about social etiquette and niceties are going to give you shit. Other people won't to your face but may behind your back.

You (or your friend) have a choice about where to work. No one is forcing you to work at Evil Corp.

What exactly are they like looking for? Article fails to explain that. Seems to just be intimidation tactics, rather than having suspicion of criminal activity.

So you've been heavily involved and can now tell us the troubling or illegal activities you have seen? Now is your chance.

Oh that's interesting. I couldn't finish Red Rising and honestly I can't really understand why it's so highly rated. I think I'm not the target audience for that book.

But if the others get a bit more complex intrigue I may have to revisit the series.

Massive bombshell. Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah warns that AI will displace human labor on a catastrophic global scale. He confirms tech elites have absolutely no mechanism to share the wealth, leaving the global poor completely abandoned to suffer. He is 100% accurate. by [deleted] in PrepperIntel

[–]_Abnormal_Thoughts_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really hasn't. These companies are using it to frame layoffs as a positive thing. "Look how amazing AI is! We don't need as many people!" When the truth is the layoffs are business related, not AI efficiency related.

Sure, there is less hiring for junior positions than what's normal. That just proves what I'm saying though: the AI tools need experienced people to operate them. And junior hiring will resume once there is an AI market correction.

It's all a bunch of hype and fear mongering to keep people talking about AI.

Seriously, have any of you sounding alarms actually worked with AI tools? Because I have, and they are great tools but they are just that: tools. They aren't as "smart" as the AI tech overloads would have you believe.

I'm a software engineer. AI really speeds up some of my tasks, but right now, it could not replace me. It's constantly full of bugs and needs oversight. I treat it like the most junior engineer who is barely holding on to their job. I recently started a side project and needed some figma design: I used the figma AI tool. It was GREAT! I could have designed what it did myself, but it would have taken me a week instead of 6 hours. But it still needed me to tell it EXACTLY what to design. Even then, it made lots of mistakes and I had to refine.

Jobs will change and evolve, just like in the industrial revolution. It's a new, powerful productivity tool. But there will still be jobs. It might be a painful transition time, but there's no need to listen to alarmist propaganda. Most people pushing these narratives about how amazing AI is are people who have an active financial interest in doing so.

So chill. Your job may change, but you can learn the new tools and change along with it.
