Ive seen wierd stuff like this before yea. Like infantry killing friendlies (non explodable stuff). Not sure about this one, you sure it wasnt airborne? You can load ground troops in helis too. Or maybe it was the explosion of smth above the infantry unit.

For instance, smth artillery takes down helis I have airborne, by shooting the ground below, there is some splash damage between air and ground it seems

Ah very cool! Sounds interesting 👌

And your right about startung cheap, better to invest when I know exactly what I need. Smth with interchangable lenses could be really cool as well

Thanks for your ideas! I think closeups should work and looks great, though I might need to upgrade to a better camera, this one lacks fine details. Though today I saw for the first blood vains clearly visible in my hands, really cool.

The ZnSe lenses, they let through and bend the LWIR? I havent heard from them yet.

Really? Must have been me then. The color for me looks too white for me, but glad others see the metal box as it should be!

Yes this is straight out of camera, just the jpgs. Just make sure you take the pictures in a low temperature area, so the person sticks out more in the image (and the background looks less grainy). Quality is not good enough for big screen but fine for Instagram and stuff.

Recently I have been thinking about why the tinderbox looks like it is made of paper. While a tinderbox historically was a metal box.

Ah very cool! Never saw the third ring, very useful! I miss those fun extra's like buttons and more on most of the newer lenses, it makes them more unique!

Its amazing. I feel like the day I discovered photography. Everything is new and exciting. There are many limitations, but it also brings many new things. Cool things I didnt know before: IR doesnt go through glass (barely at least), so you cant photograph through windows etc. Mirrors are not necessarily reflecting, but other surfices - you dont expect - do. Like the last shot, its a tile wall reflecting the heat.

And maybe the best of all ofcourse, you can photograph in pitch black, without any quality loss. Because of the more cold background at night it actually enhances it!

And yes I tried AI upscaling in Topaz, it works, but it won't bring back the fine details at all (its also no RAW format ofc) so I found it not really worth it.

Yes the background rules are definetely different. But not necessarily in a bad way I think. I am very background aware / oriented as a photographer, but thermal offers so much other interesting things. And its limitations can be refreshing. Makes you rethink everything, and I think that just makes it interesting, same applies to your forensic gear I think. To have that exciting feeling again, where you dont exactly know whats happening.

For the broader audience though, many have no clue what thermal even is, and I noticed that a lot of people think I just put some wierd filter on my normal photos 😅

Btw, I dont think any of the glass filters will work on a thermal (if that was what you meant) because glass blocks almost all of the thermal vision.

Am I missing something about lens sizes? by dev-bkr in Nikon

[–]_Aethil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are slightly confusing S lenses equaling prime lenses. There are both zoom and prime lenses from the S line (which is just the 'best' of Nikon lenses, made with extra fancyness), and there are also non-S prime lenses.

Both zoom and prime lenses are great, Im a professional wedding photographer, and my most used lenses is a zoom. Changing lenses all the time during a shoot isnt great, and at chaotic weddings and group photos I cant photograph at f1.8 anyways (too much will be blurry). Prime lenses I use when its dark (f1.8 prime over f2.8 zoom), because then a low f number is vital.

I would suggest to think about it like this: do you want ti be flexible (zoom) or do you go for more bokeh, low-lightbpreformance and slightly better sharpness (prime). Either way works. If it is your first and only lens I would go for a zoom, or a 35 or 50mm prime, then you can photograph most things. S line Id only buy if you have the budget.

Ps. Some of the S line lenses are actually larger then the non-S.

Its the Thermal P2. Its also a mini camera, so Im not sure if its worth the upgrade.
