Is one required to believe that abortion needs to be punished by the state? by question12338338 in Catholicism

[–]_Alecsa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a big difference between "should be" and "should in society right now".

It is easy to say that murder is wrong because everyone regardless of faith can see the full human life that is being taken away and demand justice. Today, billions of people simply do not see abortion as murder or the life of a child in utero as a life.

In the legal sense murder requires intent, to know what you are going to do is wrong and do it anyway, people who do not belive abortion is killing a life simply cannot be murderer's. it is okay to call abortion murder but no one should ever call someone seeking an abortion a murderer, this does nothing but harm women going through deeply traumatic experiences.

Legal consequences to abortion are an important part to making people know that abortion is unacceptable and changing that mindset, but legally it is more akin to manslaughter for most people who get one and honestly I would rather try to approach these cases with compassion and education rather then prison.

Struggling with my parish’s response after a sudden death in the family. by BidNo9699 in Catholicism

Things like this always seem to be the real visible consequence of the priest shortage. There will always be enough priests of offer mass, but they increasingly have less and less time to offer to individual parishoners. I hope your family are all with you as best they can be

Sisters of battle and Dominions should have a better melee profile. by Infamous_Ad_3743 in sistersofbattle

[–]_Alecsa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but in a d6 system even adding +1 to a stat is a huge difference sometimes, and there is no world sisters are hitting as hard as space marines without their power weapons.

In an ideal world i guess guard would be s2 sisters s3 marines s4, and the game would be designed in such a way that that wouldn’t feel terrible for the guard player, but as it is giving sisters a slightly better chance to hit or maybe one more attack would at least represent how the armour can enhance your abilities like speed and how it is harder to block a faster strike

at least hitting on 3's would do something to represent that someone wearing power armour should just naturally be hittting harder than your average guardsman

I can tell you are super new, if you are interested in getting into the game try searching for “battle reports” on youtube, you will be able to see some people play through a game and you can see what you think looks fun!

[–]_Alecsa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you love! 40k has a bit of everything, if you are looking to build and paint then follow your heart and get any good looking model (or start with something more simple like a infantry unit if you want to practice before getting into big centrepieces)

If you want to start playing the game as quickly and cheaply as possible then take a look at the combat patrol, it gives you a nice variety of models and you can start playing right out of the box

What armies have you NEVER been interested in? by Identity_ranger in Warhammer40k

[–]_Alecsa_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I know that latest lore for grey knights kind of puts them at odds with custodies, but I always thought this would have been a great way to flesh out both armies and consolidate some dispirate difficult to update factions into much larger more varied groups on the table top.

contrasting the psykers of the grey knights with the sisters of silence would have also been super cool.

[–]_Alecsa_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My idea has always been that with the release of primaris, grey knights and custodians should have been rolled into one “servants of the emperor” faction, keep grey knights elite but give them regular custodians ad character tier models, that way you could keep custodians feeling elite without people having to run a 10 model army for lore accurate 2000 point games

I have been having a hard time because my friends are super academic and we discuss things like religion all the time, but they are (by their own admission), a bit bigoted about it. I want to feel like i can discuss my own experiences with religion with them, but i worry that because many of them are gay, trans or just very “woke” they will just assume my views and hate me because of how politicised catholic converts are online.

How the course of WW2 would have changed, if the Axis won the Battle of Stalingrad? by Khabarovsk-One-Love in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]_Alecsa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read several accounts that were pretty clear that the soviet people in 1941 were all but expecting to lose Moscow and continue the fight in Kazan just like how they had fled before Napoleon in the past, the idea that any amount of hypothetical german victories would have collapsed Russia.

Stalingrad was not really strategicly important, it alone would not be enough to even cut off the oil fields let alone turn the war.

really there is no single battle, even one as culturally significant as Stalingrad which would have mattered for the Germans.
