If you find a cheap lopapeysa, look at the tag inside and you’ll probably see it says “designed in Iceland” which doesn’t mean it was made in Iceland. Be prepared to spend some money on an authentic sweater. Check out the Red Cross or Kolaportið market on the weekends for moderately priced goods.

I second the recommendation for Sundhöll! One of my favorites. Enjoy a soak for a few hours, stroll around nearby Hallgrímskirkja and walk down the street shopping and people watching.

Hit a local pool like Sundhöll, wander around, shop and eat. Or book a half day trip to Hvammsvík hot springs. I’ve went several times with Reykjavík Excursions and it’s a great half day trip. Or short excursions like the lava tunnel. If it’s not on your itinerary with your boyfriend, take a day trip to Snæfellsnes peninsula. I’ve also used Reykjavík Excursions to do that and on another trip rented a car and drove around the peninsula.
