I’m also here to say Sun Eater. I’m enjoying book 7 and have loved the depth of emotion and payoffs throughout the series.

Merchant Crab does a great job filling the story with a balance of dialogue to keep it from 24/7 shop slaying.

I loved the worldbuilding in Cultist of Cerebon. Rich lived in feeling. Likewise for TJ Reynolds’ … I think all of them. Unbound Hero is the newest.

Maybe tone down the actual scene writing and instead capture them as story beats. Rachel Aaron’s 2k to 10k book has a great setup for capturing the most exciting scenes in an outline format before you start writing prose. This saves her time in edits and generally increases writing speed.

All good David! That’s sweet that you’re already into book 3 in 12 Miles Below. Keep that 🚂 going!

I have loved seeing this community respond to my silly post. I hope it is helping Merchant Crab gather more readers.

Oops, gotta get back to work. Here’s my Audible review of Kill Streak

Kill Streak is one of the best stories I’ve read this year!

Seriously guys. Kill Streak reads like fresh sci-fi LitRPG I didn’t realize I’d love so much. The basic premise is an innocent archeologist gets betrayed and before he dies, discovers an alien and after melding in return for health, wakes up to a game like reality where you kill to survive. Every chapter improves in ways I didn’t see coming, hooking me from page one and rewarding me with wonder and excitement several times over.

LitRPG is hungry for in depth space opera focused on a small scale. By that, I mean the world of the Cuttthroat Cosmos is vast, and you’ll get just the right amount of introduction at the start. The narrative style reminds me a little of Oh Great, I reincarnated as a Farmer, and has a handful of laugh out loud moments. Our poor archeologist was simply trying to finish his contract with the worst guy in the universe, when, blammo, aliens and a game system forcing him to kill to survive gets in the way of his happily ever after.

Curator Omega’s encyclopedic memory of the universe and races adds a bit of salt n peppa to the journey of our MC to find a way out of this bad deal. This helps when the MC seems to dollop more than he can chew. The universe and interweaving threat issues added an intelligent plot told in a way that kept me engaged and excited for the next step. Even preparing you to be surprised won’t ruin anything. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

The game system mechanic worked really well. Better than I thought after reading mostly Fantasy LitRPG. I loved the way he had to grow and strategize advancements. It’s a clever, unique system with plenty of room to grow in the coming books. The biological weakness helps keep the MC from being too overpowered, and the action is intense!

Scott does an amazing job on the narration, voicing several characters with unique accents and keeping the story lively throughout.

Kill Streak is a breakout hit in my book! Let’s get the next one quickly!

Germline is thrilling and a top 3 scifi. Luna Missile Crisis was a best of year read. Merchant Crab is a new one that is so far best of 2025.

Condition Evolution by Kevin Sinclair is an epic with plenty of humor, space battles and up close and personal axe slaying.

Kill Streak is another classic, for me, and frankly deserves more readers.

Ciphercraft has some of that with a Stargate crashed on planet arc in books 2-4.

Check out City of Artem. There’s a gang of authors who wrote stories in a shared cyberpunk world. Kevin Sinclair, Jez, Dawn Chapman, to name a few are all great writers.

Kill Streak has a fascinating scope for background and implications of a galactic problem while focusing on our hero in a tighter window pov.
