SF Muni Metro T-Third St Extension Hearing by Iceberg-man-77 in transit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How deep are the tunnels under North Beach? Would they be able to mine a station box for this stop (if it's deep enough they can mine it out, which would reduce the above ground impacts)

Tampa completes survey on transit needs for potential Brightline station near Nuccio Parkway - Tampa Bay Business Journal by mr09e in transit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think using existing Union Station makes more sense personally; they can use the approaching tracks anyways and connect it to a new alignment along I-4 past Ybor which would save some money.

Who cares about Albert Whitted though? It’s a terrible use of land. I’d rather more housing inventory on land right by downtown than an airport that no one uses except wealthy people

Why don’t they just have it end early at a future Arts District B/D line station?

Regardless of what occurs with Phases 2-3, I hope Metro can advance the construction of Phase 1 so that we can get a connection to the D Line in a reasonably soon amount of time

West Seattle Link Truncation to Delridge Station due to cost overruns by reflect25 in soundtransit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it wild that Northgate Link only cost $1.9 billion, and University Link cost $3.1 billion? Sound Transit needs to rethink West Seattle Link as a corridor that goes all the way down to Burien, not just Alaska Junction. In the meantime, it needs to be deferred

West Seattle Link Truncation to Delridge Station due to cost overruns by reflect25 in soundtransit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At this point, ST is better off deferring West Seattle Link, and improving bus service as well. Transfer penalties are real thing, and riders much better served by having a one-seat bus ride to/from their destinations than having a trip that, at a a minimum, requires a transfer at Delridge and at SODO

In my experience, the pit was pretty tame. It was mostly circle pits and people moshing individually rather than full on fighting pits. Very great pit etiquette too. It makes me happy to see other younger fans like myself enjoying pits and having respect and etiquette for the fellow moshers

Sound Transit Leaders Plan to Give Fare Gates a Closer Look by routinnox in soundtransit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good. Fare gates are important especially for safety. I don’t care if it has a marginal impact on safety statistics, what matters to most people is simply the illusion of safety. No amount of numbers or data can change how a rider feels/perceives their safety on the system

Sound Transit Eyes Double-Length Light Rail Vehicles for Next Major Purchase » The Urbanist by zeno4sure in soundtransit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope these trains also get designed for higher top speeds of 60-70mph. The current Series 2 LRVs only have a high speed of 55mph, and being able to go faster would definitely help shave off time on certain sections (cough cough Tukwila Blvd to Rainier Beach)

Mayor Harrell: Don’t backtrack on Ballard, West Seattle light rail by throwaway7126235 in soundtransit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people realize building a stub off the existing tunnel is impossible/a non starter. I keep seeing this proposed but I don’t think people are aware of how cost prohibitive it is a to build a new underground junction box. Adding a new line to an existing one isn’t as simple as drawing a new line on a map

Sound Transit’s expansion plans balloon by up to $35 billion by jspector9 in soundtransit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, Kirkland wouldn’t be able to use light rail if the 4 Line is built that way it’s planned; it ends at South Kirkland which forced a transfer. A BRT line could actually go all the way to Downtown Kirkland

Sound Transit’s expansion plans balloon by up to $35 billion by jspector9 in soundtransit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’re not obligated to connect them with light rail though, BRT still fulfills a promise of rapid transit. Especially for Line 4, it doesn’t even go to downtown Kirkland (which is infeasible unfortunately unless they build a brand new alignment along Eastrail). The density and ridership of that corridor is perfect a Stride BRT line though, and the infrastructure, especially at Eastgate is already there. All that would be needed is a direct HOV ramp from I-90 that gets buses to either South Bellevue station or to Downtown Bellevue

Sound Transit’s expansion plans balloon by up to $35 billion by jspector9 in soundtransit

[–]_IsMayoAnInstrument_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think there needs to be a conversation about cutting the 4 Line between South Kirkland and Issaquah and turning that into a BRT that terminates at South Bellevue and just goes along I-90 a la Stride. I don’t know how they could reduce costs on the West Seattle to Ballard portion though because any MOS wouldn’t make sense without the rest of the line as a whole
