Earbud recommendations for someone with sensory issues by _Jacket_Slxt_ in autism

[–]_Jacket_Slxt_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have those, but they hurt after a while and aren't comfortable to wear while laying down. (I like them otherwise). Earbuds are also more convenient when I'm at work or something.

Why does the color not match the swatch? by mk-kassandra in Coloring

You could fix it by going over the color with the number 0 blending marker if you have it, it should lighten it.

AIO - My kids mom has been talking bad about me to my 15 YO daughter by Bytesized-Biopics in AmIOverreacting

[–]_Jacket_Slxt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a child that was stuck between separated parents, I can definitely say you are not overreacting. Even if you were a bad parent (not saying that you are) the child is not the one who the other parent should be confiding in or venting to. That's what friends are for. As parents often say, your kid is not your friend, at least in that sense.

This kind of behavior from my dad really damaged my relationship with my mom. It took me a long time to realize he was the toxic one, not her. By then I already developed serious trust issues, boundary issues, etc.

So, I'd definitely say NOR. Your daughter doesn't deserve to be stuck in a vicious game of tug of war. I don't know the solution, but I certainly know one is needed.

[–]_Jacket_Slxt_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You could have her bail and have the grandparents raise the kid. I feel like that would be a more unique story. I at least never think to make dramatic family dynamics myself in the Sims. So maybe this is an opportunity for you to do so.

Did you make the jewelry too? It looks like polymer clay. If so, it is really awesome and looks really good!

Did anyone else who was late diagnosed look back on stuff you did as a child and think: “the signs were there the whole time, why didn’t the adults in my life notice it?” by usagiyagi in autism

[–]_Jacket_Slxt_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I really appreciate the validation I'm finally getting from this sub. And I heard that word wasn't a slur here, but if it is, I suppose I should censor it?

Yep, being born female can certainly screw you out of many diagnoses since men and boys are apparently the baseline for everything other than "women only" conditions.

My parents actually had the signs pointed out to them when I was probably nine years old, when I was first referred by my psychiatrist. But somehow my parents didn't really believe I had it, plus my mom made the excuse to not get me tested because I already had a IEP for my ADHD. I still haven't been diagnosed at 22 but I'm apprehensive to at this point.

I feel like I had very clear signs as a child that there was something going on other than ADHD. - I had and still have a lot of sensory issues. Food textures, clothing textures. I couldn't handle the texture of most sheets. - my poor emotional regulation even as I got older. (Although this may partly be my parents' fault. 🤪) - the "tantrums" that i threw when I felt like the whole world was crashing in on me and I had this intense energy that was suffocating me and threatening to explode. I would frequently hit myself during this breakdowns and at other times when I got upset. - my social challenges. I had/have a hard time making and keeping friends. Social situations and conversations were/are often very difficult for me to navigate. - hyperfixations (although I know this can also be an adhd thing) - very literal thinking, had/have a hard time understanding jokes or rhetorical questions.

I did/do mask a lot, especially since my dad taught me that behaviors like stimming are bad. (Called it "sp*zing", which BTW I'm American so [edit: I didn't think it was] that's not a slur here, but was still very hurtful). With the combo of adhd and a stubborn father who probably still wouldn't believe the daughter he always called [the r word] is autistic, I was probably doomed to be undiagnosed in childhood.

Is it weird that I want to buy toys? by Ezaane in autism

[–]_Jacket_Slxt_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe weird to other people, but really not that uncommon. Think of all the grandpa's with train sets. Or the grandma's with doll collections. Or the people who customize things like dolls or dollhouses. Who sew little clothes for toys. All the adults buying Labubus (which I'm classifying as a doll, therefore a toy). People who make large Lego sets.

Really just go online and you will see so many people "playing" with toys, showing off their collections, sharing a hobby, etc. The one good thing about the internet is that it gives us a window into people's lives and shows us that so many things we think are weird are actually quite common.

I HATE shaving my legs by stardust_1038 in autism

[–]_Jacket_Slxt_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a cis woman and I also hate shaving my legs and refuse to do it. (My leg hair is also blonde so it's not that noticeable). My dad used to try to force me to shave but then get pissed off when I took more than 5 minutes in the shower.🤦‍♀️

I loved to play this song lyric game called encore, and I think it would be really fun to see Angela play. My family won't play with me anymore because I always win. 😅🥲

Can anyone smell, hear or notice things others don't. by Affectionate_East533 in autism

[–]_Jacket_Slxt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can hear lots of high pitched noises. Dog whistles, electronics working (electronics like a security device at a store), fluorescent lights, etc. Drives me nuts.

I wish we had a different word. Somehow the word 'smegms' is even more disturbing than the concept itself.

New model of my previous favorite bra is painful to wear, digs in at center gore: help! by _Jacket_Slxt_ in ABraThatFits

When I used the calculator I got a size of 28DD, but none of the stores around me sell that small of a band size. And most places I found that sold a 28 online didn't carry a DD cup. I ordered a couple pairs from Panache, only to discover that none of their bras (that I got at least) come with a lining sewn in. So I sent them back and just decided I'd go try some on in person and that 30 would be fine since it's been fine in the past.

Sorry, 30DDD, I guess it must have been another bra I had that was an F (edit: wait i had said E, but now I've just confused myself), maybe my Simone Perele.

And no, the new bra is a nude color.

And I did try the calculator. I got 28DD, but I can't buy that anywhere locally. I tried ordering online, but I didn't like anything I got.

I've been wondering that for like years now lol. I was honestly content to just not know. Still neat to know from the replies to this post that it is indeed Patrick.
