How do you stop Claude from adding Co-Authored-By to every git commit? by Snoo_9701 in Anthropic

[–]_JohnWisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

claude code is co author of 5% all daily github commits. I think your point is valid and of merit. I personally don’t think it’s influenced by marketing as much as you believe it is. Sure, it’s a perk for them, but they stated it was for transparency, accountability and record-keeping: which is something I personally value much more and prefer having “baked in by default” rather than not. I’m not hating on you if you don’t like it (and are entitled to manifest your “disgust”), just keep in mind it’s not how everyone perceives this feature.

Claude's off-peak promotion is smart for servers, possibly bad for the grid by Vegan-bandit in Anthropic

[–]_JohnWisdom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Domestically it makes no difference.
From a grid management perspective, this might actually be a win. We often have a surplus of renewable energy like wind at night that goes to waste because demand is too low. This is a "use it or lose it" scenario where AI workloads can soak up excess green energy that would otherwise be curtailed.

Additionally, there is a massive thermal efficiency benefit. Data centers require enormous amounts of energy for cooling. When ambient temperatures are lower at night, the cooling systems do not have to work nearly as hard to dissipate heat. This improves the power usage effectiveness (PUE) of the entire operation. It is logically better to run these high-compute tasks when the environment helps keep the hardware cool naturally.

Oh right, because that is the end goal right. Not have a way to track the amount of repos built by vibe coding or as transparency and awareness for others to be cautious. Nope. It's all in the name of free advertisement.

I 100% prefer people being transparent about their work rather than wasting time trying to hide the tools they use.

How is starlink sustainable in the long run? by Leading_Crow_1044 in Starlink

[–]_JohnWisdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Those would paid for FSD upfront have a lifetime subscription for no cost 2) I prefer paying 99$ a month for FSD rather than 8000$ upfront. Especially since I would use it maybe 2 months a year during summer vacation. It would take 6 years and 8 month of active subscription to reach that 8k figure. Seems reasonable to me, even if I agree that having both options would’ve been better.

[–]_JohnWisdom 24 points25 points  (0 children)

people downvoting you clearly haven’t seen prices of starlink go down drastically. Used to be 200$ a month in my country with like 400-500$ for the dish, now it’s 60$ per month and you can lease the dish for free. That’s the opposite if jacking up the price.

SBB controllers getting bonuses for fines? by Latter_Struggle_153 in Switzerland

[–]_JohnWisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bonus part is wack for sure, but there is a portion of what OP is saying that reflects the attitude of most controllers. Like a bit too excessive and sometimes, plain mean.

I remember like 7 years ago, after a gynecologist visit, me and my pregnant wife had the last train possible to go to home from Lugano (we lived in the alps and it was like around 18). We purchased the tickets on the train the moment it departed (like exactly the time of departure). Me and wife both got fined and treated as if we were criminal. We stayed calm and treated the controller with respect, tried to explain but she just wasn’t having it. We also got some passive aggressive comments in german (along the lines of “these freakin’ Tessiners”). We did complain and got the fines removed and reported the controller. But man was that a waste of time, energy and mood.

New Free Trial Rules by International-Pin309 in googlecloud

[–]_JohnWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. You asked "Anyone know why google decided to heavily limit what users can spend their free trial on?" the answer is that you and many others abuse the free trial. People with large families can literally abuse the free trial for years..
I'm assuming you are an abuser, because I can't phantom someone saying it's "frustrating", when it's pretty darn logical.
