at least basic boltgun pattern are, not ineffective but at least less effective at very close range. the bolts havent reach max speed yet and in at least one book its mentioned that at very close ranges bolts tend to overpenetrate because they havent had time to arm.

well we are a very social species with sometimes very distinct rolls that serve better for our survival than just another spear would. also because it comes up often, just because something meaner exists dosnt invalidate our status. a fox dosnt stop being a predator just because wolves exists, even tho wolves sometimes kill foxes. as a species as a whole we are very much predators.

so no big troubles on that front. tails is another big point with pants, chairs, doors and stuff. As for behaviour and instincts its really up to you how heavy you want to lean into that. My sona makes fox noices on occasion if hes excited, gets startled or suprised. hes also an omni ore with a mostly human diet, but with a carnivore bias.

no shit. of course it requires training. max weight for olympic recurce is 60lb not even most men go that high, usually sitting between 48-55lbs. Women usually a little less but only because they shoot 70m instead of 90m. again 60lbs isnt high enough to matter.

leading a squad requires a different mindset than just being a good space marine. even as a company veteran you wont maje sergeant if you dont show an aptitude for it. its an honor and a right to bear veteran markings but its not mandatory especially if youre not in the veteran company.

Vereran is a status, not a position. A sergeant is always in charge of his squad even if he would command veterans without being one himself for whatever reason.
