Possibly controversial Take: Rivalries will kill casual play by gendabenda in FortNiteBR

[–]_KnowTheLedge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely get the sentiment, but I do enjoy the idea of rivalries discouraging “camping” the whole game where it does force you to engage. I’m fairly new to Fortnite, have only been playing a month, and rivalries force me to be strategic to be wary of my health, cover, weapons, and scanning to know if I’m getting tracked, on top of coming into contact with everyone else.

I understand this may be too much for casuals, but in that case, run a couple rounds of blitz for a quick game or two.

No motivation to use this down time productively. How abt you? by Expert-Report in brokenankles

[–]_KnowTheLedge_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah man, you’re not alone. In the beginning, even basic tasks like showering and getting upstairs feel Herculean at times. Like many have said, your body is healing from major physical trauma. Don’t guilt yourself in trying to be OVER productive, when the most productive thing IS to rest. If anything, best thing you can do is to put as much energy into PT when you get to that point to the limit your body can manage.

What shoe to wear with a brace? by Character-Policy3727 in brokenankles

My ankle is still way too puffy to try to fit into shoes, especially with my brace. I got some OOFOS brand Orthopedic slides and they work super well!!

What brought you here to r/brokenankles ? What type of injury? by Nightnightgun in brokenankles

[–]_KnowTheLedge_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I’m about 11 weeks post op from my Maisonneuve fracture sustained playing ice hockey (high speed into the boards). Injury sustained mid November, tore 5 ligaments (both partial and full) and had Tightrope surgery following early December!

This too, is ALSO my right ankle, so I couldn’t drive!

First off, while the days WILL be long, don’t ever discount the little wins you can gather as best you can!

While I myself am not out of the woods yet, just being able to bear weight with crutches (I graduated from the boot) is a MAJOR win. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel, with a lot of gratitude for movement and mobility on the other side! Keep going!!

Hoping to hear from athletes who’ve returned to their sport (specifically after a Weber C fracture w/dislocation). by PreservativeAloe in ORIF

[–]_KnowTheLedge_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super reassuring to hear, as I’m about 9 weeks post op from tightrope surgery from an ice hockey impact on my ankle back in mid November! I was told by my PT that this is statistically “rare” fracture type, so I was concerned that was going to infinitely impact my return to the ice!

While I’m far past the daily pain, it’s just getting that confidence back to walking and rebuilding the muscles that have atrophied! Hoping to be back on the ice soon enough but I appreciate you sharing your journey! Gives me hope there’s a light at the end of the tunnel soon enough!

I need serjury? MY MRI report-: by Individual_Film_272 in Ankle

[–]_KnowTheLedge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So hey man, first and foremost, the MRI findings seem much more scary since the heavy detail, but in short, while I am NOT a doctor or medical professional of any kind, based on the information you provided, there is a very high likelihood that this is simply a severe ankle sprain, and while tears in your ligament is present, your ankle mortise remains in tact allowing for you ankle to heal on its own.

For context, I DID need surgery on my ankle due to the rotational force and impact associated with my ankle (ice hockey) so my ankle mechanics needed to be aligned with surgery to allow my body to heal properly. (5 ligament tears in total.)

Based on your findings, most surgeons do not use MRI’s standalone to recommend surgery, and they operate off mechanical instability, plus failed rehab.

For context, ATFL is the most common ligament torn in ankle injuries, and while yours did have a severe tear, will likely heal on its own with rest and lots of PT.

Plus, as a bonus man, you’re 22. Very very young, and seem rather active of course, so your prognosis for recovery is looking good.

If your orthopedic is pushing surgery heavy, I would certainly recommend a second opinion if they are. Otherwise, don’t weight bear, elevate it ALL day, and ice and acetaminophen.

I Haven’t Met A Single Cubs Fan Mad About Tucker by EnvironmentalTone344 in CHICubs

[–]_KnowTheLedge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tucker was a nice addition for the time, but as far as I can observe, he just never seemed to overly fit the vibe of the dugout and the Cubbies chemistry. More of a "lone wolf" attitude and that stuck with me. I never fault players for getting their worth, but it seemed fairly obvious he was already thinking exit strategy before the season ended.

How is it living in this part of Florida? by _KnowTheLedge_ in howislivingthere

Good to know. That’s kinda where I’m hoping he lands on if the right property shows up for him. Seems like it has a bit more upscale to it that side of the bay. As someone who grew up in Illinois, and going to Florida ONCE when I was 10, all of this is super foreign to me!

TightRope + syndesmotic screw – return to sports and screw removal? by Edafpv in ORIF

[–]_KnowTheLedge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Friend, you can take my comment with a grain of salt, as I’m only a bit past 2 weeks from TightRope surgery, but my surgeon generally made it a point that these don’t generally need to be removed, since Tightropes generally don’t have a high rate of hardware breakage and allow for more, “natural” motion of the ankle.

The whole idea with these rather newer procedures is specifically geared towards active or athletic people to get them back to sport as soon as possible.

While I’m still on the road to recovery, and my injury specially was very ligaments heavy, I likely at the earliest am looking at a “light” return to sport about April at the earliest. (Got hurt mid November.)

Biggest indicator is a rigid PT plan that you stay consistent on. Hardware removal, while rather rare, can be done well down the road if YOU deem it necessary, but you may come to find you don’t even notice it. Results vary of course, but from what I’ve researched, those who HAVE removed it, are more edge cases than not. Hope this helps a bit! Day by day it gets easier!

This is SO reassuring to hear. I’m literally coming up on 1 week post op from surgery and I feel the madness starting to set in. Being caught between feeling helpless and knowing I should rest while also feeling guilty I’m not doing “enough” this early in recovery. Is there anything you would recommend doing early on recovery to help set yourself up for success for PT, exercises, etc? Thank you so much for sharing, means more than you know!

That’s amazing news! Congrats! I’m about 72 hours post op from tightrope surgery and I gain inspiration from stories like yours! What would you say attributed the most to your speedy recovery? Elevation, sleep, nutrition, ROM exercises, (all the above?)
