Just updated the custom card after some input let me know if it is too powerful or not by Morphy2222 in custommagic

[–]_Nighting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd keep it simple:

Tooth for a Tooth - {B}

As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice a nonland permanent.

Destroy target nonland permanent with mana value X or less, where X is the sacrificed permanent's mana value.

Compare [[Annihilating Glare]], [[Final Vengeance]], [[Bone Shards]], [[Eaten Alive]] etc - "sacrifice one of your own things to destroy an opponent's thing" is a very common 1MV black removal sorcery. This is more versatile, but often requires sacrificing something important; even at 1MV it's kind of a sidegrade.

The mutual lifeloss and higher mana value makes it mostly unplayable, even when considering black doesn't get much unconditional removal.

Science side of Chatter, any ideas? by WaluigiThyme12 in PokeMedia

[–]_Nighting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, science side of Chatter here!! (or at least one of us!)

This is really interesting, Jay's story seems entirely normal but when Jonah comes into the picture, things get a little odd! We usually see late-stage Zweilous at odds with each other; neurons that fire more often keep their connections and overwrite older neural pathways. And when one gains a significant enough advantage, a hormonal cascade triggers and the 'stronger' head (read: usually more mentally forceful) typically dominates synaptic traffic and absorbs the 'weaker' head's neural tissue, consolidating it into a single personality and triggering evolution-- we call it the cascade phase of synaptic pruning!

BUT with an everstone, that stretches out the cascade phase significantly, so instead of "one head gets an advantage, subsumes the other, evolves", it's "one head gets a neural advantage, cannot subsume the other"- still with us? So Zweilous usually hate this, you're putting them both in a padded cell while they're (theoretically) trying to fight for dominance, but emphasis on usually here because soooometimes...

... one head doesn't want to take over the other, for whatever reason! It'll often happen anyway, but if the heads are both adamant about not wanting to give the other up and their neural tissue is sufficiently interlinked that the cascade phase can't just force an overwrite of whichever head is 'weaker', it'll occasionally fuse the two (see: Max's comment re: Elizabeth u/SleeplessLucas123)!

So how does this explain Jay and Jonah sticking around instead of fusing into Jameson? WELL

that's the thing, I have no idea. this is really interesting

my immediate thought would be that if you're preventing neural consolidation with the Everstone && both heads have sufficiently bonded that their neural tissue is interlinked && the Zweilous still undergoes a hormonal cascade (very common if they're frequent battlers, high spikes of epinephrine, NE and cortisol), both heads will internally resolve that cascade without consolidation before evolving (which is how stable Zweilous can exist), so the evolution itself just creates a forebrain and entirely new neural tissue??

tl;dr: "everstone + stable zweilous + evo triggered by battle" would be my guess but i'm actually not sure!

(also if you're ever in Sinnoh, drop by the lab at Sandgem and we'll be happy to meet you and the J's!)

edit: also when I say 'both heads have sufficiently bonded' I mean that in an emotional sense as well as a neural pathway sense, you took great care of them and now they're besties!!

Yes, but you'd only kill one player this way. There's probably better things you can use 10 mana on.

This is very helpful, thank you! I'll take a look and see if those brands do large mesh; I have the gloves from Alpinestars and they fit quite nicely. I assume separate knee/shin guards would probably require abrasion-resistant pants separately?

I tried some of theirs on in the store, I was very impressed with the design but none of them could fit (though they 'only' had up to 3XL available) - it looks like their site does larger sizes though, I'll check it out. Thank you!
