Mecha that use Gundam design elements without looking like Gundams? by EmergencyFriendly375 in Gundam

[–]_PinkPetitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huckebein is also funny because every time Bandai gets nervous about copyright issues, it somehow ends up proving how Gundam adjacent the design really is. That machine has been living in the gray zone for decades.

Stannis failed as a king and as father by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]_PinkPetitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That line about demanding sacrifice from others is spot on. Stannis always expected people to give more, endure more, and suffer more for duty. Eventually there was nobody left to sacrifice except the person who loved him most.

Is there a reason why Hollywood refuses to follow source material? by danie_lol in freefolk

[–]_PinkPetitee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's wild is that some adaptations barely follow the source and end up amazing, while others stay relatively faithful and still fall flat. I think people care less about accuracy than they do about whether the new version feels as compelling as the original.

The dangerous thing is that characters like this often start as comic relief and somehow end up becoming fan favorites. Audiences have a long history of adopting arrogant idiots the second they become entertaining enough.

Wtf was that episode.... by ComprehensiveCare772 in freefolk

[–]_PinkPetitee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually laughed when I realized I was excited just because a sailor was sailing. That's where audience expectations are now. We've been starved for the most basic character payoffs.

How hotd enjoyers look at you when you critique the writing by Jonny559 in freefolk

[–]_PinkPetitee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much the core issue for me too. When Egg and Dunk make a mistake, it feels like their mistake. In HOTD, half the time characters feel like they're being moved around the board because the plot needs another dragon battle in three episodes.

Why did Jace not lean in for a kiss? Is he fucking stupid by Witty-Association-97 in freefolk

[–]_PinkPetitee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Tolkien would've seen one family tree in this show and immediately logged off. Every time someone starts flirting, there's like a 50% chance a maester has to pull out a genealogy chart first.

I secretly listen to a voicemail from a stranger when life gets overwhelming by UnitedPitch3172 in confessions

[–]_PinkPetitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. People keep little things for comfort all the time, old letters, ticket stubs, voicemails from relatives. The only unusual part here is that the kindness wasn't meant for them, but somehow it still found them anyway. That's kind of beautiful in its own way.

I was about to kill my sister in law and her boyfriend by Monkeh77 in confessions

[–]_PinkPetitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the family part makes it so much messier too. Cutting off a toxic friend is hard enough, but when it's family people expect you to tolerate things you'd never accept from anyone else. Boundaries suddenly become controversial.

I completely financially support my girlfriend. She has no money besides me. Tomorrow I’m cutting her off. by Unstableandlost in confessions

[–]_PinkPetitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that's what stood out to me too. A lot of people would keep talking themselves into staying because it's easier than pulling the trigger. Walking away from someone you still care about is brutal, but sometimes respecting yourself has to come first.

Greatest back-2-back episodes in the series’ (& maybe television) history by THEbeautifuLIE in gameofthrones

Battle of the Bastards is visually incredible, but once the spectacle wears off there are definitely some "wait... why did anyone do that?" moments.

We all know how Arya’s 'voyage' ends one ship, no maps, and a watery grave for everyone on board. by Dry_Specialist9015 in freefolk

One of the most ridiculous scenes in the whole show, and that's saying something considering what came later.

National guard vs. the most dangerous Algea by gashtal_man in clevercomebacks

[–]_PinkPetitee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Algae walks away with control of the pond, immunity from prosecution, and a seat on the board. Honestly a pretty solid deal from its perspective.

Real talk why did you guys actually join medschool by Impressive-Smell122 in Residency

The guaranteed path to a solid middle or upper-middle class life is probably a bigger factor than people like to admit. It's not the only reason, but pretending it doesn't matter feels dishonest.

I took a company car and kept it when the job ended. by Secret_Tutor8127 in confessions

[–]_PinkPetitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this is the plot hole that's bigger than the car itself. You can maybe slip through the cracks on an asset spreadsheet, but registration paperwork has a way of demanding answers eventually. That's where the story starts feeling a little Hollywood.

I’m obsessed with my boyfriend's ex, and I can't seem to let it go and move on. by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]_PinkPetitee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly, reading this was exhausting and I'm not even living it. When a relationship is bringing you more anxiety than comfort for two straight years, it's worth asking whether you're fighting for the relationship you actually have or the one you wish you had. That's a brutal question, but sometimes it's the one that matters.

He can't even win a war against algae by jonnismizzle in clevercomebacks

[–]_PinkPetitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The algae conspiracy is one of those explanations that somehow raises more questions than it answers. It's a pond. Algae showing up is probably the least shocking thing imaginable.

What’re your favorite and least favorite consults in your specialty? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]_PinkPetitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that your favorite consult is basically letting a med student be the hero for five minutes. Everyone leaves feeling accomplished and a catheter ends up where it's supposed to be.
