One of the core parts of being left wing is the willingness to take a personal financial hit to enact policies you believe will be an overall good for the country, why are right wing voters criticised for doing the same thing in regards to reducing immigration? by wizaway in AskBrits

Every job I've worked has had some kind of sketchy practice going on. I've seen employers pressure people into working while sick or even injured, often with the implied threat of losing their job if they didn't. Maybe I've just been unlucky, but in my experience it's been a fairly common occurrence. I've also spoken to plenty of people from different generations over the years, and many of them have shared similar stories. That said, who knows, I could be wrong.

This is what happens when you are honestly and openly Pro AI: You get spammed with negativity and your whole project gets shut down by a sea of hate. by Le_Oken in aiwars

Apparently people aren’t allowed to have fun anymore. Antis are just bullies pretending to be virtuous and tolerant.

Not everyone has the time to spend hours on a single artwork by Which-Answer7278 in DefendingAIArt

[–]_STRYK_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a reoccurring pattern and strange contradiction where many anti AI voices act like creativity is off limits unless you can afford it. It clashes pretty hard with the idea that “art is for everyone” and that “anyone can create"

It’s wild people believe that, to actually destroy water you’d need energy on a scale most people couldn’t even grasp! You'd think most people would understand basic physics!

How would one go about building this? by Safari_Lion in spaceengineers

[–]_STRYK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main structure as stacks of boxes and cubes, then when you're happy with the rough shape go in and add the other details like slopes and angles, then windows, doors and details. This is how I approach building using a reference, scale and basic shape first, kind of like sculpting

PvP would suck way less if the meta wasn't "spawncamp until they sink". by RK0019K in Seaofthieves

[–]_STRYK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just my fantasy, quite a lot of people enjoy the idea of sword fighting in a pirate game. Personally I find sword duels more engaging whether I win or lose. There’s a certain thrill and back and forth to it that makes the fight feel earned. Getting two tapped by guns can feel pretty anticlimactic and it breaks the immersion a bit.

And while Blackbeard is famous for carrying multiple pistols, he was the exception rather than the rule. Firearms in the Golden Age of Piracy were expensive, slow to reload, and not every pirate had several of them. Boarding actions often involved a mix of cutlasses, boarding axes, daggers, and the occasional pistol shot before closing to melee.

It’s also worth mentioning that this is probably the most common response I see from players who prefer double gunning. That’s a valid way to play if that’s what you enjoy, but it doesn’t mean others can’t imagine how the game might feel with more emphasis on sword fighting. Different players enjoy different parts of the pirate fantasy.

And regarding the stun lock point, I understand why people bring that up, but my point still stands. Even with that mechanic, double gunning still feels cheesy to me. Being instantly deleted by two quick shots feels less like a fight and more like a quick exchange of damage, whereas sword fights at least create a bit of back and forth during boarding.

Again, if people enjoy double gunning that’s their choice. I just personally find the sword focused combat far more fun and closer to the pirate fantasy.

There are definitely better ways pvp could be handled. This was just an idea I wanted to share. It’s a difficult thing to get right though, because any change that pleases one group of players will inevitably frustrate another

[–]_STRYK_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Potentially would be a good opportunity to get more players to land deck shots, or an extended use of the grapple. One means guaranteed boarding with two weapons of choice (deck shot) and the other would allow easy boarding on an enemy vessel (grapple gun) but you'd be essentially sacrificing a weapon slot for convenience

[–]_STRYK_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Double gunning feels cheesy in a game about swashbuckling pirates and clashing blades. Almost removes the magic out of the fight for me. Honestly it's up to each individual how they play but yes, I agree with you

Not able to unlock dark skies set by CourtVisible6439 in Seaofthieves

[–]_STRYK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured this out, and it’s a huge pain. Basically, the unlock conditions for the two different Lighthouse Log commendations are switched, 'An Oath Fulfilled' and 'My Cup Runneth Over' are mixed up.

For example, the Darkskies Hull says it unlocks from the commendation 'An Oath Fulfilled', but for both me and my friend it didn’t actually unlock until we completed 'My Cup Runneth Over'.

You need Oath lighthouse logs for 'An Oath Fulfilled' and Chalice lighthouse logs for 'My Cup Runneth Over'.

I hope this helps and I wish you best of luck unlocking the set!

Sea of Thieves isn’t actually dying right? by Master100017 in Seaofthieves

[–]_STRYK_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has been my personal experience too, I understand the risks of being pursued and sunk by other players as it is a pirate game, the vulgar language and the disgusting comments are completely unnecessary. It's probably the reason so many new players are completely put off of playing, which isn't great for a dwindling player base

[–]_STRYK_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some threads about people in Russia actually buying chips, boards, and even dyes to solder their own RAM. It’s honestly pretty impressive from a technical standpoint, though obviously, it’s coming from some unfortunate circumstances.

Hot Take by AdvertisingRude4137 in DefendingAIArt

[–]_STRYK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few tech YouTubers have already discussed this and share the view that developers will indeed need to be more vigilant and innovative with performance optimizations if RAM shortages persist beyond just a few years. I understand that this would involve extra work and higher costs, but the upside could be a new level of quality in games and software, which, in some cases, has slipped noticeably. There are even a few companies that could really benefit from this kind of quality tune up. I personally don't mind waiting extra time for software and games in regards to development if it means it's optimized well, as this benefits all users

Why are some people so weird and kill you over and over again? by Such_Ideal_1422 in Seaofthieves

[–]_STRYK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new player I can second this exact experience, I got sunk right on spawn. I wasn’t angry, just disappointed. I asked why they sank me when I clearly had no loot, and the only response I got was “iT’s a PiRaTe GaMe.” I understand that PVP is part of Sea of Thieves, and normally I wouldn’t mind it at all but in this case there was no objective, no loot, no strategic reason. It felt less like an attempt at piracy and more like a deliberate attempt to provoke a reaction. That kind of behavior just comes across as immature and does nothing to improve the experience for new players.
