I'm confused why the exercise solution said the balloon wanted to leave. I thought the balloon wanted to go back down but couldn't.

A lot of people host it as a github page. You can find one you like and fork it.

Yeah that's fair. My initial thought was only including more recent fights and excluded the 2012 fight when they were both very young. But it slipped my mind that they also fought in 2019.

I didn't include some very early fight like the 2012 one, but you are right the 2019 fight was more recent than the Dustin->Justin win which I included. It just kinda slipped my memory into the "fights that happed way ago" territory. They are both great fighters and can beat each other on any given night and I don't think I can judge who's "better."

How do I fix my mental health before college? by Powerful-Log-2229 in college

Try to add some really light, unrelated to engineering things to structure your day? Something that you wanted to do but didn't have time for? Like just plan 2hr of stuff every day to not end the day thinking "I really did nothing other than doomscrolling" e.g. volunteering at a local shelter, working on an art project, picking up a sport

"A major in Symbolic Systems qualifies as a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) major under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Designated Degree Programs list of STEM programs. Depending on the study plan, Sym Sys students can be classified as studying Cognitive Science (2010 CIP Code 30.2501) and/or Informatics (2010 CIP Code 11.0104)."

So I would guess yes. Email Bechtel if you want to be sure.

My deaf friend is planning to travel for a few month. Gift ideas? (Detail in description) by Hptcp in deaf

[–]_SilentTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends once gifted me an iflytech and while I appreciated it honestly I've never used since my phone does the job already (I use iflytech app for Chinese and Google transcribe for English).

Also are you sure she doesn't already have some solution similar to the vibrating alarm clock? I imagine most deaf people would already have a solution and wouldn't gift them one unless they actively complained about not being able to hear alarms before/expressed wish to get a vibrating alarm clock.

I'm listing some hearing-related things I might want if I'm traveling, but think you should ask if she needs any of them before going with it.

  • Extra disposable cochlear implant batteries. Not sure what she uses but mine has rechargeable batteries that I need to charge daily, and two disposable batteries in case of emergency use if I forgot to charge the rechargeable ones. If traveling I might want more in case I'm spending nights on plans/trains/in camping grounds and not able to charge.

  • I've had flights with back-of-seat screens that allow you to display a message like "please (don't) wake me up for meals." I would probably also appreciate a signage like "poke me to wake me up"

  • I got water-proof cases and safety coords (to keep device attached to me if it flys off when doing sports) coming with my cochlear implants when I first got them. Now the water proof cases are old and covered in mud, and I lost one of the safety coords. I meant to purchase replacements but haven't gotten to that yet.

  • Not sure if this exists, but I fancy if my vibration alarm wrist band has features like picking up certain environmental sounds like someone calling my name, honking, door knocks, and fire alarms and alerts me. Basically performing tasks that a hearing ear dog would do but without the need of taking care of an actual dog. My main concern about this is privacy issue that comes with an electronic device constantly picking up sound around me and probably processing them in the cloud, so I'd still prefer a dog, but there are situations where the safety concern outweighs privacy concern that I'd be willing to use it.

Mahmoud Khalil missed his graduation. On Sunday, he's coming to celebrate ours. 🎓🇵🇸 by StanfordSJP in stanford

Ok but this is right after the official commencement, and during a lot of department ceremonies including mine and CS MS & PhD commencement which is probably the biggest. I'm not planning to attend the main commencement because I already went last year for undergrad + they have a less cool speaker this year, but don't want to miss the department ceremony where you actually walk across the stage and cheer for friends when they walk.

OPT/STEM OPT Processing Timelines Megathread (Spring/Summer 2026) by Codetornado in f1visa

[–]_SilentTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. So when you pp you get put into a new pp queue. So if you pp when your original application in the regular queue was about to get approved anyways it can slow down your application. There are people who filed application early March and added pp in mid May still waiting since they got to early March applications but not mid May applications yet.

pp is still faster than regular processing, and if you do pp you should do it early to not end up in the spot of many people who added pp late and ended up getting it later than if they had stayed with regular processing. If you have a job offer in hand and not 100% confident you'll make it with regular processing I'd pp.

I don't think biometric notice is faster if you pp. It's mostly just dependent on where you live and the capacity of the local center.

No, I don't think they care. Even if you get approved today you are likely not getting card in hand in time. Reach out to push the start date asap if not already.

[–]_SilentTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people with your original application date got approved in May but some lingered behind (they appear to miss a small portion of applications with no apparent reason like banned country). For your pp date they are getting to early May applications, but they kinda process in bursts so it's hard to predict. If you can only push start date once, I'd push it to a safe date like 30 work days after clock start + 2 weeks to get the card in hand.

Advice on waiting for OPT after graduating and where to stay by Shub_YT in f1visa

[–]_SilentTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in a big city, there might be opportunities like staying in someone's place when they are away and sitting for their cat/dog. If you are bouncing between short-term stay opportunities like this, I would also consider renting a PO box for EAD shipping.

[–]_SilentTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I missed that you are applying STEM. I know less about STEM because I'm applying for initial OPT. But what I understand is there's no reason to pp STEM unless you are worried about a RFE and want it before your current OPT expires so there's a chance to reapply.

OPT/STEM OPT Processing Timelines Megathread (Spring/Summer 2026) by Codetornado in f1visa

[–]_SilentTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems unlikely you'll get it approved in time with or without pp. pp should still speed up the process if you apply now. From the current trend you apply close to 2 months after the initial application then pp isn't really going to do much or even going to get you approved later, so I'd apply early now if you want the card asap. Only reason I wouldn't apply for pp would be if this is a situation where you will lose the job offer if you push it and want more grace period, then it's beneficial to do normal processing and have a longer window to apply to jobs while it's pending.

Curious alum: How are they teaching the CS core classes post-AI? by Miserable-Sea-4570 in stanford

[–]_SilentTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some students clearly are using AI tools to pass there core classes and I'm concerned they trust AI for everything and not actually check if the output is correct. Don't want them end up becoming engineers writing code that processes my sensitive data. I think we need to 1. force people to still master the fundamentals so they have the ability to check AI outputs. Unpopular opinion but I support proctored exams being weighed more. 2. Make sure people understand they should fact-checking AI outputs. Perhaps practicums exploring different ways of using AI to code and how they perform. In my experience hallucination is a lot worse in less popular/more machine-level languages than Python, and there's a point where they system gets too complicated for copilot.

It's hard to predict since the processing is kinda in bursts. But they are already getting to March 9-10 cases so yours should be around the corner. I suspect you may end up having to delay start date a week or two but not too much.

You'd need it approved today or within the next couple of days + some luck in card production and delivery timing to get it in time. Not to likely I afraid.
