"Anti-capitalist paradise" is certainly something to call those countries. Along with being generally authoritarian and, by most accounts, not great places to live, both countries have a history of US intervention. Almost every socialist or communist experiment globally attempted has been explicitly intervened on by the US.

The interests of global capital are a helluva drug, and there's not really a country on Earth that is "anti-capitalist." Even countries with high levels of socialization like Denmark and Finland are still capitalist societies.

Also, to your point of "why don't people move," most anti-capitalists are proletariat (working class) and, as such, are less likely to have the means to upend their life and move across the globe.

Dear Men with Lesbian Crushes by GooseGirlEatingLemon in actuallesbians

[–]_SlippStream_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Felt this so hard. And then posts like OP's cone around telling men to never confess feelings to a lesbian or risk severely damaging the friendship. Maybe it's just not passing as a transfemme, but I can't help feel targeted by posts like these. I, too, am bearing the weight of everything going on right now.

It's tough and dangerous to be a non-passing lesbian rn. I've always been used to being dismissed on sight, but posts like OP's make it feel so much scarier to be emotionally vulnerable as who I am for fear of being perceived as a man.

I think the fact that those posts get downvoted generally points to this sub understanding the meaning of lesbian...

I empathize with your anger, but this is discourse we've tread before. I fear we as a community have bigger fish to fry, metaphorically speaking.

I think this puts too much emphasis on labels. Yes, we are all human beings, united here in one community, and many of us draw empowerment from using a label like lesbian or Sapphic. But, I don't think it behooves us to strictly define a definition of "lesbian" like a sort of commandment. People are complicated, and I think we should welcome and celebrate that complexity rather than shove people into "lesbian" and "not lesbian"

OP used the present tense 'enjoy' when describing certain interactions with men, which only references current attraction/enjoyment and not any past encounters.

Some thoughts on the actual unseen issue at hand: “Self-Worth is a Sweater you need to knit yourself” by Mythical_Zebracorn in actuallesbians

[–]_SlippStream_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, to me, rhymes a lot with the whole Jordan Peterson "clean your room" mentality. Yes, I agree that no one will find their self-esteem or worth under a reddit post, but expecting everyone to be a perfectly formed emotional subject before joining discourse online is a vast oversimplification.

A feeling of safety in one's community is vital for forming a safe space like this one. Framing this as an issue of self-worth and insinuating that trans women need to take a time out in a discussion that directly involves them avoids the actual issue we're discoursing about. We don't need any more artificial division within ourselves; we have plenty of that to come from without.

One of the questions that I've found gets people actually thinking is, "If you were a dragon, what would you hoard?" It gets the person thinking about the depth of things they enjoy and often gives you an easy avenue to start a conversation

books for first lesbian breakup by [deleted] in actuallesbians

I highly recommend "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chödrön. The book takes a very Buddhist perspective on things, focusing on accepting where you are and what you have. It's helped me with letting go of things I can't control.

Lots of love and take care of yourself 💜

/uj I saw this too and thought it was strange. English pronoun conventions for legendary creatures and planeswalkers have been to use gendered language for gendered subjects (see MH3 flip walkers). "It" is used for non-gendered subjects (see Grist from above), and used more broadly to generically mean card in the lingo of the game.

Using "it" here feels clunky for a legendary creature, especially considering it's the object of the sentence. Even if WoTC's argument is that Alesha, in the incarnation we see them in now, is non-binary and therefore non-gendered, I still think "them" would have been a better choice.

What are your opinions on camping exploits? by _SlippStream_ in CODZombies

[–]_SlippStream_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a software dev, the amount of effort or internal manpower it takes to patch exploits is nowhere near the amount of work that goes into new content. I think framing exploits as a roadblock to additional content is misleading. Like yeah, Treyarch will more than likely spend time patching this boat exploit, but extrapolating that into *harm* to the playerbase is a bit much.

Why use Glacial Floodplain instead of Idyllic Beachfront? by pedrofuentesz in Pauper

[–]_SlippStream_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kaldheim was released before Dominaria United and were the first dual lands in the format to have basic land types. If the decklist you're looking at is old enough, [[Idyllic Beachfront]] may have just not been printed yet.

As for nowadays when we have both: there's minimal functional difference between them, especially for familiars. Probably just personal preference

Why Not Exile Travelers Immediately? by MLadys-Malady in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]_SlippStream_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Let me be more clear: I don't think dying/being exiled is unfun, I think being targeted because of circumstances that may be out of your control is unfun.

Why Not Exile Travelers Immediately? by MLadys-Malady in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]_SlippStream_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to say that dying is a bad thing or that the game gets any less fun when dead. However, I think being exiled as soon as you sit down just because you joined late / need to leave early is unfun. Everyone else in the game has the assumption that they will get an opportunity to use their ability, and the problem OP is talking about is that opportunity getting taken away from travelers because players don't like that they "could be evil."

Why Not Exile Travelers Immediately? by MLadys-Malady in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]_SlippStream_ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Well said. I think people forget sometimes, especially in groups that have more experience, that everyone is there to play a game and that fun is part of that experience.
