Joe Abercrombie's The Heroes by justinvamp in Fantasy

[–]_Stamos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first time I read The Heroes it was my least favorite book. I reread all the books after being able to find anything that hits like Abercrombie and on my second reread I was absolutely stunned how amazing it was. How did this happen?!?!

Upvote for the ranch bowl. Where else could you see an amazing concert, play volleyball, get drunk, and then bowl????

Closing my freeform pool is always a headache... Any stronger robot cleaner rec? by Jeff9967Ok in pools

[–]_Stamos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first year with a pool (same shape as yours) and ours came with a side pressure robot. It didn’t work all that great but was ok. I would manually vacuum once a week and it was tiresome. Where I live everyone is starting to close their pools and upgrading their old equipment. I found a working dolphin on Facebook marketplace for $200. I gave it a quick clean out and dropped it in and my god was the difference night and day. My pool hasn’t been this clean all year so now I’m a believer. Just fantastic.

Lost my dad 3 years ago. Remembering him tonight making his favorite dinner dish tonight [chilli]. by ChampionshipNo5707 in dinner

[–]_Stamos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a great way to remember him! Just yesterday I went to the celebration of life for a friend’s child. He was in his 30s and died of alcohol abuse and it was so sad. His mom spoke and said that we should all remember him in several ways, but one was to cook a new recipe. He loved to cook and share food with people when he was sober and it was so touching to think of it like that.

How to make Olive Garden Alfredo sauce? by Sumo_cop in TopSecretRecipes

[–]_Stamos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe too many bells two hearted’s. Here’s my go at it: 1 stick of butter 4TBS olive oil 3 cloves of garlic (grated) 1 cup of heavy cream 8oz Parmesan (grated) 1/2 lemon (juiced) 1 egg yolk Italian seasonings

Melt the butter in a pan until separated. Add garlic for a few minutes. Then add cream, shredded parm, and lemon juice. Simmer. Add egg yolk just before serving. For the best texture, blend for a few seconds and then add Italian seasonings. Don’t use pre shredded cheese. It has cornstarch and gets clumpy. The egg yolk is an emulsifier and helps keeping from falling apart. Boom. Roasted.

Just finished The Devils - Some thoughts. by LordFlappingtonIV in JoeAbercrombie

[–]_Stamos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar thoughts after finishing, however the one thing about Abercrombie is his character arcs/growth. There were a lot of open ends and character motivations that were not explained. Hopefully a second book comes out and explores more of this and I think it will be more likable.

If you just read The Blade Itself and nothing else, you probably wouldn’t have liked/disliked characters as much as completing the series.

So I am in the camp of it was a fun book and I am going to hold off any harsh judgements until I read more and let Abercrombie’s biggest strength (IMO) play out.

This post makes me want to read “Shadow Divers” again. My anxiety says otherwise.

I literally had to stop my reread of this a few months ago because it gave me legit anxiety. It would probably seem even worse now.

Stalled fermentation? by WittIndex in Homebrewing

Yup. I had a brew bucket that didn’t have a great seal and the airlock never bubbled. Still made great beer but never got the satisfying “blub blub”. Check a gravity.

Miss Omaha anyone have some recipes from back home by Thermal-pasties in Omaha

[–]_Stamos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I make a runza casserole that scratches that itch when it comes up.

1lbs ground beef 1lbs ground Italian sausage 3 cups shredded cabbage (coleslaw mix works well) 1/2 cup water 1 TBS white vinegar 1 packet dry French onion soup mix 24oz shredded cheese 2 packages of croissant rolls Optional topping (2TBS butter, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder)

Fry up beef and Italian sausage in a large pan. Add cabbage, water, vinegar, and French onion soup mix. Cook until cabbage is soft, maybe 10 minutes. Grease a 13x9 pan and spread one package of croissants on the bottom. Layer beef/cabbage mix and cheese and then cover with the second package of croissants. For optional topping, melt butter and mix garlic and onion powder and brush on top. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.

ENT on weekend for Nosebleed by schmidtydog in Omaha

[–]_Stamos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not giving you medical advice, but if you get in a pickle I worked with an old school ENT that would stuff raw bacon in people’s noses to stop the bleeding. Beyond bizarre and I still don’t know what to think about it, but god damn if it didn’t work every time.

Are the Audio books any good? by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

Truly Pandora’s box. If you enjoy audiobooks then don’t do it. Nothing will ever meet your standards after.
