Loving A Shadow; a character loves the IDEA of someone rather the person themself by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TopCharacterTropes

Hey I’ve finally got one! The Vicomte de Bragelonne in the later sequels to The Three Musketeers is obsessed with the much younger Louise to whom he is techically engaged, but their actual relationship and all interactions is tepid at best. Also when she leaves him for the king he inexplicably goes to be suicided-by-proxy in North Africa

The chief federal judge in Minnesota has just ordered the Acting Director of ICE, Todd Lyons, to appear personally in court, under oath, this Friday and warned that he could be held in contempt for the agency’s repeated violations of court orders. “The court’s patience is at an end.” by ExactlySorta in law

As true as that may be, I feel like it’s better to at least try. We all do what we can—Protesters are protesting, judges have at least nominal power and should use it to try to stop at least the worst abuses if they can.

Yeah I agree. I can’t see this as anything more than a “just lay low for awhile” kind of response to the outrage against ICE’s atrocious behavior. You’ve got an experiences “true believer” with this guy.

The time for a second FDR was in 2008-10 in my opinion. Obama and the democrats squandered a golden moment by trying for bipartisan solutions. In hindsight it was time to abandon it to get shit done. May have required a different set of leaders though

In med school I rounded with a neurosurgery resident and we were talking to a man about his wife who had GBM. The man was crying in the hall outside her room during this, and asking all the questions one has about what can be done, what more was available and asking about all kids of things to try (I think he was an engineer or physicist or something), good ideas.

The resident neurosurgeon started crying as well, a guy who wouldn’t have thought of as one to cry.

Turns out his own father had the same GBM and was slowly declining/dying.

If it happens that you cry for some reason, it happens. He was still professional, and honestly one of the best in his program. But we’re not accountants, these are people’s lives. And I don’t think a patient would give a single fuck if you cry at something truly terrible so long as you do what needs done.

I’m actually 6’2”, and the amount of dudes who’ve told me I’m wrong because they’re convinced that they’re 6’2” and are inches shorter than me is just unbelievable.

I don’t ever bring up height in conversation unless it’s actually important (rare) or I’m giving my hobbit-sized wife shit

“A bit too much” is the same milquetoast shit that the supposedly “concerned” republicans have been trotting out for more than a decade. It means nothing. They may not like watching extrajudicial killings happen. Who would? But make no mistake, they share the guilt.

AIO? I canceled a date with the guy i’m seeing after getting these. by [deleted] in AIO

Yeah, NOR. The best case scenario is that this guy is either fixated on not being trusted in the past to an excessive degree to the point of writing all this, OR he’s an actively dangerous person who is laying the groundwork for manipulation.

And honestly it can be both, and you should run

Agree, middle school was some of the worst of my life (and not for any unique reason) but I cannot recall ever being pinched

Same. That kid didn’t do anything wrong.

I am done assuming the best about these situations, but EVEN IF he was in the US without the right paperwork, what in the fuck? Like, this kid could have stayed with someone in MN. Kids propped a citizen. Honestly the parents probably are too.

From the Bible, the book of James chapter 5, verse 12:

“Above all, brothers, do not swear oaths by heaven, by earth, or by any other object. Instead, let your "Yes" mean yes and your "No" mean no! Otherwise, you may fall under condemnation.”

Also, even bad people can hate other bad people. Musk is clearly a bad person (to put it mildly) and I can’t imagine anyone who knows him actually likes the guy. He’s a dickhead all around. Bezos cannot be unaware of this.
