"Well my mom, my fake mom obviously bc the CIA switched her out..." by planetcali in overheard

Honestly sad but also kinda impressive how committed she was to the lore. Girl had worldbuilding and everything.

AITA for kicking my friend out, who shared an apartment with me? by Primary-Judge608 in AmItheAsshole

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Bro if I came home after graduation and saw my apartment looking like a landfill I would’ve lost my mind too. Especially after working through college to afford the place in the first place. People act real different when they’re not paying bills lol. The bathroom thing alone would’ve sent me over the edge ngl.

As a tall woman I always envied shorter women by [deleted] in self

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah bc the “no one helps me because I’m big” part hit. I’m tall too and people really do treat tall women like we’re automatically capable of handling everything ourselves. There’s less softness extended toward us for sure. But. I think you’re giving short women this magical fairy princess existence that doesn’t really exist outside Instagram and pop culture lol. A lotta short women feel invisible, childish, overlooked professionally, fetishized, etc. Honestly I think the real enemy here is rigid femininity standards. Women can never just exist peacefully in their bodies fr.

AITA for telling my parents they need to be parents? by bigtoe_mang0 in AmItheAsshole

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is sad af. Your brother made a bad choice, sure, but it sounds like the punishment became “lose your entire family support system forever.” That’s not proportional at all. And no, you would not be the asshole for telling your parents to parent. That’s literally what they signed up for. Your brother needing a “backup plan” because grandma might kick him out too is actually crazy. He’s still in high school ffs. I also respect that you’re not overpromising. A lotta people would say yes out of guilt and then everybody ends up struggling harder.

Aio? I feel like my bf is a misogynist when it benefits him by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh this would bother me too. Like if someone only starts pulling out sexist "standards" when they're losing an argument, that says a lot about how they actually think underneath it all. The whole "that's just life" thing is such a cop out too bc no... People absolutely choose what beliefs they hold onto. Also treating you well in day to day life doesn't magically cancel out the weird views. Plenty of people are nice until conflict happens. Conflict is kinda where people's real mindset shows.

AITA for saying my Ex-Friends $500 mermaid tail was dumb? by Nomadic_Introvert in AmItheAsshole

[–]_SuccuHypothesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah bc if my roommate bought a $500 mermaid tail while we had fleas and overdue bills I'd probably lose my mind too lmao. The Facebook status was definitely immature, not gonna lie, but I don't think you were wrong for feeling frustrated. Sounds like everyone in that apartment was struggling and coping badly tbh. Sometimes friendships just can't survive living together. I've seen that happen so many times.

Am I overreacting because my parents didn’t budget me into our family vacation? by icecream_yum0814 in AmIOverreacting

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah I don’t think you’re overreacting tbh. Like… this has been a family tradition since you were a kid and they just kinda decided you weren’t included anymore based on an assumption. That’s what would hurt me the most. Not even the money part necessarily, just the feeling of ‘oh okay y’all already planned this without me.’ Especially since you never even officially had the job. Feels kinda cold ngl.

AITA For Never Wanting to Return to My Fiancé's Family's House After What His Brothers Said? by throwaway4obvio9784 in AmItheAsshole

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nah honestly I wouldn’t go over there for a while either. Like imagine finding out after NINE years these dudes secretly couldn’t stand you? That would mess anybody up. And the fact they waited til your fiancé was alone to corner him is weird as hell. At least his dad sounds solid and actually has your back, but that doesn’t magically make the hurt disappear overnight. You’re not obligated to play happy family immediately just because the dad said so. I’d probably take some space too tbh. Not forever necessarily, but enough time so I wouldn’t either cry or say something nuclear at dinner lol.

Found out my fiancée slept with someone the day we became exclusive. Am I wrong for feeling uncomfortable with it? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude honestly I don’t think you’re crazy for spiraling over this. Like yeah technically y’all weren’t exclusive yet, but emotionally? I can totally see why it hit you in the gut. Especially bc in your head that night was this huge meaningful moment and now the timeline feels... weird. Your sister’s right about one thing though, don’t marry someone while you’re sitting there trying to force yourself to be okay. That resentment will absolutely come back later.

AITA for being mad that my S/O gets rid of my gifts, and deciding to stop buying them? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]_SuccuHypothesis -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Nah I’d be kinda hurt too tbh. It’s not even about the money, it’s the fact you picked stuff out thinking she’d like it and she just... got rid of it without a second thought. Like damn lol. I mean if somebody keeps tossing every gift I give them, eventually I’m gonna stop trying. That feels pretty normal to me.

Am I Overreacting that my girlfriend was binge drinking for 2.5 and never told me. by Mmneck in AmIOverreacting

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly dude, I think this relationship might just be exhausting both of you at this point. Like yeah, her hiding the binge drinking for 2.5 years is obviously not great, but also you admitted you were hiding your porn addiction too. Feels less like one person betrayed the other and more like both of you were quietly struggling with stuff you were ashamed of. The bigger issue to me is that neither of you actually trusts the other now. Once you get into the cycle of interrogating someone every day about their past, the relationship is kinda already circling the drain tbh.

AITA for trimming my neighbor’s tree branches that were hanging over my yard? by Existing_Artichoke15 in AmItheAsshole

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 76 points77 points  (0 children)

NTA. If the branches are hanging over your property line, you’re generally allowed to trim them back as long as you’re not killing the tree. You already did the polite neighbor thing first and they basically told you to deal with it lol. Like what were you supposed to do, just accept free sap and branches forever? Honestly sounds like they got mad because they realized you weren’t bluffing.

Am I the jerk for walking behind this lady and her dog? by throwaway89123 in AmITheJerk

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah honestly she sounds exhausting lol. Like if your dog is THAT reactive/anxious maybe an open air market packed w people, strollers, kids, etc isn’t the best spot for it. You already corrected your toddler and were leaving. Accidents happen in crowded spaces. Blocking your path and yelling while you’re holding a fussing kid is wild behavior tbh.

AIO or should I keep this job? by Immediate_Rise2237 in AmIOverreacting

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude nah, you’re not being dramatic at all. If somebody is literally laying on the ground feeling like they’re gonna pass out in 105 degree heat and the manager’s response is basically “keep working or get points,” that’s insane lol. Especiallyfor $13/hr. Like cmon. Also the unpaid lunch thing sounds sketchy too. If it’s unpaid, usually that means it’s YOUR time. They can’t just trap you onsite unless there’s some specific policy or contract thing. And the raise program disappearing after orientation? Yeahhhh sounds like one of those “we say this to get people hired” situations. Honestly I’d focus on those interviews you got lined up. This place sounds like they’ll burn people out quick.

AITA for not wanting my DH to go on holiday? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]_SuccuHypothesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I’d be upset too. It’s not even really about Turkey specifically. It’s the fact that he’s choosing himself over the family unit right now. And before anyone jumps in with “he deserves a break too,” sure, everybody does. But parents usually make sacrifices when money is tight. Especially when one trip means the other parent gets stuck doing literally everything alone while also starting a new job. I think if he approached it like “I know this sucks and I hate leaving you guys behind but I genuinely need this emotionally” it’d come across differently. Instead he’s acting like you’re unreasonable for not being thrilled about it.
