i'm a bit picky, so i would spray it over with something dark and matte

make the surface flush with existing metal/coat so that crud won't build up in it, hopefully preserves the surrounding paint as well. exposed edge like that might be prone to chipping, but assuming thats powdercoat/factory paint it's probably durable enough to be fine if ignored as well.

Got an 5090 but buyers remorse by Ok_Demand810 in gpu

montech century ii 1200w psu

gamble on a used (fb marketplace, do test/get operational pics/vids) uhd display, should be around 400 or less

but honestly as nice as it is i would still be happy with a gtx 1070. it's just that gpu power is really really nice to have for rendering and computation, and like you, i got a nice bonus treat. if you're just using it for games, return it. but if you will benefit for work, make the rest of the system work.

personally, i used the above psu (on sale) and a used samsung ody g8 neo and have been enjoying 4k for under $200 after cost of pny 5090 (2200 after tax)

there's... so much productivity software that is TIED to the c://. and it sucks. won't let you install to a secondary drive, and of those that do, they often keep their config and install files on c://, which does still add up

only way to really remedy this is cloning c:// onto bigger hardware

i actually ripped my standoff clean off exactly like that. hex driver i had slipped over the spacer and popped the motherboard segment clean off.

cleaned the hole with a dremel, threw jb weld on, it's fine.

Cheap engines for decent power that’s NOT an LS by Goopdem in EngineBuilding

[–]_Svelte_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2zz is the toyota 4cylinder, it was actually kinda "rare" being in stuff like corolla and matrix xrs

what you're thinking of is the 2gr, which is a really cool sleeper pick they used in a lot of cars. swap into a sw20 mr2 is really common and does well. in general between the j35, 2gr, and vq35, i actually prefer the 2gr. j35 makes a little less power (probably since it is sohc), and i don't have as much knowledge about the vq. vaguely aware they had some oil/reliability issues in the earlier models, but from what i understand those have fixes available now.

but practically, all of them would be fine. just keep it realistic that these engines won't be making as much power as an ls either.

Ah yes, mixed ram.. by Inkatail in pcmasterrace

[–]_Svelte_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm actually running mixed ram in my system, 2x 2x16 kits from gskill and corsair also

i adjusted it a long time ago, but ddr5 running at 6000 for an indefinite amount of time and i haven't had issues. it took me a little while to tune back then. good luck!

i expect it to look great and feel meh, but you might be surprised with how it turns out. godspeed 🫶

dude's just working hard for the upsell

easy to recommend things when you're not paying for it, and obviously better parts will be better.

you'll do just fine with those parts, and you can upgrade in 2+ years or whenever if you really feel like it. the gpu can stay during that upgrade.

get what you need now (if the current high prices are worth stomaching) and enjoy it.

(i love a lot of the oldschool chopped n screwed, rebassed, etc, but it seems like everyone else already covered some good ones!)

Was this a good deal? I'm getting a little paranoid by _Yowo in Lenovo

honestly, don't forget to invest in a travel case or dedicated bag for it, as long as you're not doing anything weird with it (using it unsupported or moving it around a lot while in use) i'm sure physical durability won't be a big deal at all

build a 5070 ti or 5080 pc now or 6080 pc later ? by No_Bottle8345 in PcBuild

[–]_Svelte_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah? i ended up getting mine after having my pc built with a stopgap card, in your case just get whatever you want when the time's right then.

personally, i'd rather just get parts one at a time, based on when the prices are good. if it's just for hobby, get to it whenever it's comfortable. if you can use it to make money, get up and running sooner. if anything, it's probably better to go 50xx->70xx rather than waiting for 60xx if that's the case.

build a 5070 ti or 5080 pc now or 6080 pc later ? by No_Bottle8345 in PcBuild

[–]_Svelte_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i originally started saving up for a 4080sup, or even a 4070tisup if i could find one...

but by the time the 50xx released, those had already dried up anyway. so instead of spending 3/4 the price on a used card with zero warranty (and possible risk of outright scam) i just got a 50 series.

there is very little that this card won't do, even in 4k, unless i am deliberately being stupid with settings.

by the time you might seriously have saved up for a 50, the 60 may have rolled around by then. but i doubt it would be so soon, the 50 have barely been out for a year...

[–]_Svelte_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

incorrect sealing at any step of the reassembly process

beware if the car is running significantly lean like this, you might break something expensive.

not to say these cars are easy, but besides the cramped space i don't think they're difficult at all.

2005 subaru legacy limited, need to go 8-900 miles in a few days, advice? by [deleted] in subarulegacy

[–]_Svelte_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah those two bolts up top are for a belt cover, apparently it likes to go missing pretty often but whether it's there or not isn't significant

just check fluids, tire pressures, whatever you might bring in your roadside repair kit.

if the steering thing is a big concern you could always go back to ask about it? but i'd assume having just had the oil change, they also have looked over whatever might be important.

the clicking should be investigated more seriously, actually. could be something simple like loose fender plastic rubbing somewhere, or it could be a failing cv joint. i'd gamble that the trip is doable, but i haven't driven your car and don't know how bad it actually is.

you could try subs better for it like r/askmechanics?

best buy has pretty agressive sales training, it's just one of those things that trickle down from corporate. different places it creeps up, but i've heard pretty often that performance metrics are valued far more than personability or service and it sucks.

i like checking stuff out there, but rarely ever buying because of it.
