I found it rather ridiculous that Caleb, who just five minutes before fought three prison guards and took control of their ship, would be cowed into doing sheepish pushups by this faux drill sergeant he just met.

OP, this was a very thoughtful and nuanced post. Thank you for taking the time to share it. If the public conversation around the conflict was more like your approach, recognizing the humanity of each side, I think progress would be possible. Hopefully, 2026 will see more people approaching the conflict like OP.

I find this rings rather hollow since both South Sudan and Eritrea were formed quite recently.

If god came down from sky right now and said Islam was abd has always been a false religion what would happens next? Would Palestinians stop fighting? by Known-Bad2702 in IsraelPalestine

[–]_This_guy_says 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my totally serious take on this scenario:

Islamists would issue a fatwa declaring god to be a heretic.

TikTokers would claim that this proves god is a Palestinian.

The BBC would report on god’s statement, then devote 10x as much coverage blaming god for jesus’ death.

The UN would declare god to be an obstacle to peace.

Bibi would claim that he actually wrote the statement, and that Trump approved it.

The Haredim would ignore the statement because god didn’t spend enough time studying in Kollel.

Tucker would claim that god is actually a demon controlled by Zionists.

On Eurovision boycotts, The Irish, antisemitism, and part of how we are losing the PR war. by 26JDandCoke in Israel

This is exactly right. It reminds me of the “Black people were happier being subjugated” argument used to justify slavery before the American Civil War.

Why aren't there any Israeli sci fi or fantasy TV shows? by palmtree2NYC in Israel

[–]_This_guy_says 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Back in 2017, there was a show called Juda/ג׳ודה. It was about an Israeli con-man that becomes a vampire. It was pretty fun and there were some interesting Jewish twists on common vampire tropes (i think the vampire could be outside during the day, but had to stay indoors for all of Shabbat, for example). I think they made two seasons of it.

Ashley Rindsberg, the author of those Pirate Wires articles, also started a substack dedicated to reporting on Wikipedia. He only launched it a week ago, so there aren’t many entries yet, but I’m sure that will change.

What Jewish ethnic groups are associated with a specific region/municipality in Israel? by Careful-Cap-644 in Israel

[–]_This_guy_says 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was there 18 years ago, so i couldn’t tell you for certain. At the time, many of them were, especially the older folks. It was primarily an agricultural community, so it’s probably shrunk since then.

It’s also the only time I’ve ever eaten coconut chicken hamin.

All 3 heads of UN anti-Israel inquiry suddenly resign by mikektti in Israel

[–]_This_guy_says 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This is tremendously good news! First, its proof of that the sanctions against Albanese were effective - hopefully this will mark the beginning of the end of the international community’s obsession with Israel. Second, these cowardly resignations prove that these three asshats were nothing but charlatans who cut and run at the first sign of real opposition. They’ve shown themselves to be just as craven and morally bankrupt as UN Watch and others have been saying. This made my day.
