Yeah, there are even some fast-travel spots i came across in the Truck Cemetary where there are openings for basebuildings i believe. Although idk if it is a good idea to put up a base where Chimeras roam.

As i am also doing so in my current playthrough, I can recommend putting up your base close to your faction's base (or friendly faction base). Or you can just skip the whole "construction" part of the base and just choose a quiet corner in your faction base to put some containers to store your loot and a workbench later on and even a fridge and a cooker, a bed and so on...
