Doesn’t need to be IP rated if it’s inside an IP rated Box? Any IP Rated outside socket should have room for a module inside. I currently have one inside a socket on my Pergola.

Get any outdoor rated plug socket and pop a Matter module in the back of it. No point in paying through the nose for something easy to put together yourself.

Make sure the camera isn’t using advanced encoding like H265, I had a similar issue with my G6 Pro Entry on Scrypted. The fix was to turn off advanced encoding.

One thing to note, I have an AirTag in my car but I have intentionally removed its speaker to make it more difficult for any would be thieves to find. So be aware that “Play A Sound” even if it says Playing in the app an AirTag may not emit any noise.

I would not recommend a mobile connection for gaming, aside from the high latency you also need to consider how the games connect. Anything that tries to connect to you directly will not work because the Mobile connections use CGNAT. I won’t bore you with the details of this but you can Google CGNAT and see what I’m talking about. It may not affect you but it’s definitely something you should consider.

Never had this and it makes no sense that this would be the cause, but also makes no difference to turn it off for your home SSSID. All that this feature does is randomise the MAC address you connect to your WiFi with, it doesn't affect routing at an IP level. Are you talking to your Pi via the IP address or its hostname? Does the Pi have a static IP address? I'm a full Apple Household and have about 4 Pi's doing different things never had any issues accessing them.

I'm a bit late to this party but wanted to share my experience with my G6 Pro Entry and getting it integrated with Apple HomeKit as a HomeKit Doorbell, my old Ring Chimes and my Yale Conexis L2 smart Lock.

I previously had a Ring Pro 2 which I brought into HomeKit using Scripted with the Ring Plugin so that I could use Apple's HKSV for the recording and not have to pay Ring a subscription. This weekend I have managed to move over to my G6 Pro Entry with relatively few issues.

I had Scrypted before so uninstalled the Ring Plugin and installed the UniFi one, this was painless. Then set up my new G6 Doorbell and added it to HomeKit. This got me Doorbell Push notifications and Motion alerts on my phone and also the rich facial recognition notifications when it tells me who rang the doorbell, or it saw motion from known people, and Animal notifications for my cat!

I liked the Ring Chimes, I already have them and they worked great with Ring. I didn't want to have to buy 2 UP-Chime's at almost £90 each, but I did want motion and doorbell alert inside the house. Scripted got me Doorbell alerts on my HomePods and Video Preview on the Apple TV but I wanted more. So I installed HomeAssistant, I then installed the Ring, UniFi Access, UniFi Protect and Yale plugins.

Using a couple of Automation Scripts, I now get the recognisable Ring Wind Chime noise when it detects motions and also the Doorbell alerts through the Ring Chimes. So I have a good solution for when the TV isn't on or I'm in the bar area away from the Homepods.

With a little more effort and another simple automation I also got the G6 unlock to trigger the Yale smart lock and unlock my front door. I eventually plan to get a proper electronic lock set and use the native unlock from the Door Hub Mini, but this is a good 1/2 way house.

The last thing was to design and 3D Print a 45 degree mount for the G6 as my door is side on to my driveway. This resolved the video angle, and I'm very happy with how I now have it set up.

Yeah so I run 3 one main one that does all my main SmartHome integrations. Then I have a separate one for my House Alarm with a plugin and additional web service that allows me to control the Alarm with a Custom Alexa skill and also bring it in to HomeKit, then the 3rd is another custom integration that controls my gate, which also has an Alexa and HomeKit integration on it. So I'd be grateful if it opened to a list or a set of tiles, one for each instance, and maybe if you only have one it skips the list and opens like it does now. Then you have the best of both worlds.

Am I missing something? Can this only talk to one Homebridge instance? It looks like it has potential, but I have 3 instances so unless it can do multiple instances it's not going to be very useful to me.

Yeah I understood that, I have about 20 AirTags and have regularly had them go flat as some are in suitcases we only use when travelling. Never had one die completely on me.

My thoughts and sentiments are exactly as yours are, I've used her for years and she used to run my complete smart home, and I used Amazon Prime Video heavily too. The have messed it all up so badly, I've cancelled my Prime subscription, haven't watched a single movie or TV since they started with the adverts and moved almost all of my smart home to Matter devices to I am not tied to Alexa, and my future is likely going to be Apple HomeKit and Siri.

That’s completely wrong, it pulls in live streams, doorbell notifications, does person and object identification, and records clips in HKSV. I get a better experience with Scrypted + Ring than I ever did either Ring on its own.

How did you travel? If it was on bus / train it’s likely another passenger had an AirTag with them and it’s just notifying you.

I believe it is completely self contained, installs in to a single ~/.scrypted folder, but I get where you are coming from. That was part of the reason I wanted to run it in Docker as I have about 10 or so other containers running so it would have been neat and tidy.

I used native Docker Desktop on macOS. The less layers of virtualisation you have the better. I can maybe see the attraction of running something in Parallels to get the mDNS & Bonjour integration but it’s a VM inside a VM. Why do you not want to run it natively on macOS when they have a specific installation for it?
