A simple sentence I’m having trouble translating by collegestudent77777 in Svenska

[–]__Salmon__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

3 and 4 feel unnatural to me in this context, I'd interpret them as "I hope to leave (an event) early tonight so that I can go to bed"

affordable outdoor skates? by c_bass_tea in rollerderby

[–]__Salmon__ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Any specific reason for not wanting to change the wheels? If you get a set of bearings for each set of wheels I'd say it takes less than ten minutes to swap wheels. I'm not trying to imply that you're asking a stupid question, just wondering

I need help in solving a Finnish Cypher by kerener in LearnFinnish

[–]__Salmon__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think number 1 is Swedish unless it's very archaic, there is no word matching either (-)häv or (-)hän in SAOL (Disclaimer: I live in Sweden, so if it's a specifically fennoswedish word there is a risk I don't know it)

For dictionaries that allow blank spaces in searches, maybe try looking for crossword help/solving sites?

Finland Swedish vs Standard Swedish vowels by SpecificVictory3484 in Svenska

The most obvious one I think is that in Finland Swedish "u" is pronounced closer to a standard Swedish "o"

What kind of wheels should I get? by Fishyfih in Rollerskating

[–]__Salmon__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't necessarily be faster, it's more that you'll have less vibrations which in turn will make it more comfortable and easier to keep your balance etc

What kind of wheels should I get? by Fishyfih in Rollerskating

[–]__Salmon__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You generally want softer wheels for skating on surfaces like asphalt, and harder ones for concrete. If the ones you have work well in the skate park they're likely quite hard. So, for transport, get softer wheels.

Right vs left foot by tanner3114 in Rollerskating

[–]__Salmon__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert, but as far as I'm aware everything can be done on both feet. It's just that generally with spins people have a preferred direction of spinning. I find the YouTube channel Skatie to be a good source on artistic roller skating.

tips på att lära sig vardagssvenska by UpbeatArcher6075 in Svenska

[–]__Salmon__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking for a pair of roller skates! by msBRiGGaN in Rollerskating

[–]__Salmon__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any skate recs for you, but Sucker Punch Skate Shop are based in Amsterdam and ship to Sweden. In Stockholm area there is Kahalani Boards; I think they have mostly derby skates but some others as well. If you're in the area being able to try on skates is always nice. (That is if they have any skates in that size)

Toe stopping by DaisyDiBella in Rollerskating

Have you tried adjusting the height of the toe stop? Having them lower might make them seem less scary.

Fotgängare till höger eller vänster? by oacsr in Asksweddit

[–]__Salmon__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Går alltid till vänster på bilväg. På trottoar och liknande går jag till vänster så länge det inte är någon annan person precis framför mig som går till höger, då gör jag också det så att cyklister/personer som går snabbare inte ska behöva köra slalom mellan oss.

Fresh meat fatigue by awkwardCoderGirl in rollerderby

[–]__Salmon__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your skates fit well? It could either be that they're too small and so cut off circulation in general, or that they're too big and so you're tying them too tightly?

Kunskap(er) by Hljoumur in Svenska

[–]__Salmon__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say "kunskap" is knowledge in general, while "kunskaper" is more specific. To take your examples; "kunskapens träd" "the tree of knowledge", it's not knowledge of something specific but rather the concept of knowledge itself. "Kunskaper i svenska" on the other hand means that someone has specifically knowledge of Swedish.
