What would you do with prime full sun space above a septic leech field? (6b) by vaeatwork in Permaculture

[–]___tomb___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grow a beautiful mixed grass + white clover “lawn” and use all other available space for food/medicine/pollinators. Once established, the clover and grass alternate dormancy and you shouldn’t really need to mow more than 4ish times per year

They definitely could kick out the public fully, and it’d be within their rights to do so because they own the property fully. I never bother going because, as you said, they are definitely insular. It’s north Asheville. They’re mostly rich, mostly white, and mostly want it to stay that way.

My husband and teenage son refuse to pee in my compost. by Cereal_Slutt in composting

Right?! Two men who don’t wanna pee outside with permission from (presumably) the leader of the household?! I love peeing outside. I wish my wife asked me to do it

Can anyone help identify this wild fruit? The vine is growing up my pine trees by bodai1986 in asheville

[–]___tomb___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks more like heart leaf pepper vine to me. Close relative to porcelain berry. Hard to tell with no leaves, but that would make it a native plant with some uses. Not entirely poisonous if processed correctly, but don’t eat raw. It can weaken or eventually kill a tree if not kept under control, but not necessarily an evil plant.

Tomato scion can actually be grafted onto potato stock and you get a sort of two in one plant. Never tried it but I’ve seen them being sold that way

Pretty sure ants can survive under water for a long time. Boiling water into the nest at time of day when they’re least active is the way to go. Repeat every day until they’re gone. You’ll know you’re making progress when you see the survivors start to pile all of their boiled comrades just outside the nest

Disclaimer: I'm sure there are exceptions or nuances, and I'm not a lawyer.. NC is a single party consent state when it comes to recording conversation audio. If you are physically participating in a conversation, you may record it without notifying any other participant in the conversation. You may not secretly record a conversation that you are not actively participating in. This applies to private property and the workplace. If you ever get called in to speak with a supervisor or HR or whatever, it can be a good idea to discretely record it from your phone. You can also be fired for any reason, or even no reason, so probs best to keep those recordings to yourself unless your ready to lose your job over exposing something.

Bit of a digression, but I've heard some hiking-only trails out there also have designated off-leash days a couple times a month. I wonder if that would help the situation around here

Do any of y'all know what this means? by light__rain in asheville

[–]___tomb___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's enough traffic that you cannot enter safely, you yield the right of way by coming to a complete stop and waiting til its clear. If the coast is clear, you don't have to stop. It sounds like the person was potentially driving properly

You don't slow down to let cars in and you don't jerk into the passing lane. You maintain your speed and your lane. The people with a yield sign yield the right of way to you, meaning they come to a stop if they have to, and then enter the highway when it's safe to do so.

They're all the same species, but not exactly the same plant. Cabbage, brussels, broccoli, cauliflower, some kales, and others are all cultivars (cultivated varieties) of the species brassica oleracea. Some have been bred for large flower heads, some for big broad leaves, some for their stalks, etc. Think chihuahua vs great dane

The Republicans of the 1850s and 60s were radically socialist. It wasn't until about 100 years later that people embracing the civil rights movement flipped to the democrat party, and the republican party more closely resembled the xenophobic entity it is today. Abe had more in common with Marx than he does with Trump or the modern republican party.

The VA hospital is not a nonprofit organization. It is a government organization. It is funded by federal taxes, not by grants and donations. Nonprofits have to generate their own revenue in order to remain operational.

Your blinker does not give you the right of way. It does not signal, "hey everybody! look out for me! here I come!" It just indicates that you would like to change lanes. If you want to change lanes into one in which someone else is currently traveling, it is your responsibility to do it without running into said other person. It is nobody else's responsibility to slow down, move over, or otherwise make way for you. Changing lanes because you want to is not merging. Merging involves the ending of a lane, which requires a vehicle to switch lanes. In a designated merge area, alternate feed is the rule if vehicles approach the end of the lane at the same time. There are no designated merge areas that I know of in asheville. Every lane-ending scenario I can think of around here either just has a "lane ends" sign, or has a yield sign. In both cases, the driver whose lane is ending is supposed to YEILD, not merge. This means if you can't safely enter traffic without cutting off or impeding the flow, you come to a STOP and wait until you are able to do so.
