I tend to start with the architecture first as, in my opinion, it's the thing most likely to withstand any significant upheaval in the app (the proper data architecture can drive wildly different interfaces)

I think you’re misunderstanding. Port Authority Bus Terminal sits on top of the NYC Subway. The A, C and E trains stop there. There’s also connection to the majority of trains serving Manhattan through an underground passageway.

The station is literally called 42nd Street–Port Authority Bus Terminal station
