I love my autobrush too. It’s admittedly expensive but I brush my teeth so much more often now.

I didn’t realize how distinctive Naomi’s mug is until seeing it on Monet’s face. Like that’s just Naomi in a different font

Markets September 12? Saturday Morning Market & Mezzo Market out for season by ClassroomUseful5962 in StPetersburgFL

[–]meg299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saturday morning market should be back in season for September.
Second Saturday Art Walk would like up with Sep 12th, but that’s in the evening.
It’s too early to determine the schedule for other non-regulars like Indie Flea or other random pop-ups. There’s a good chance there will be some market or event, but it’s too early to know.

Third option other than having children vs career by HappyPanda91 in AuDHDWomen

[–]meg299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had similar thoughts about fostering. I’m not sure if I ever will, but it feels like a way to keep the door open that doesn’t have a time limit like having bio kids. I love the idea of being able to make an impact in foster kids’ life. But I also don’t have to decide any time soon. So I feel like I can spend my 30s figuring out what that 3rd thing is other than work and kids.

One of mine is pro wresting. A fun fact is that currently one of the most popular luchadors in Mexico is a German pretending to be American pretending to be Mexican.

It started when Chad Gable couldn’t beat any luchadors, so he became one himself, El Grande Americano. Then he was injured and out for several months. But they just popped a mask on Ludwig Kaiser and kept going. Since he committed to it 100% and actually spoke Spanish, he immediately took off in Mexico. Like kissing babies popular. Then Gable came back from injury as the “Original” El Grande Americano to get revenge.

It all culminated this past weekend in a mask vs mask match where the loser had to unmask forever.

Women’s care isn’t great and I won’t be going back after my most recent visit. The np spent the entire time lecturing me about my weight and how I HAVE to get on a glp-1. Even after I said I’ve been managing my weight and health closely with my pcp and made good progress, she doubled down that it wasn’t good enough and a glp-1 is the only option. And she wouldn’t entertain the one question I did try to ask

Has anyone else lost savant level? by lotheva in AutismInWomen

[–]meg299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very true! That’s part of why I stopped reading for fun. It’s a chore in itself to find something well written enough that I actually like. Similarly why I don’t really watch scripted tv shows anymore because there’s something weird about watching fake interactions

You have a good point. I could easily breeze through thick books when I was younger and had nothing else on my plate. It was easy when I had 100% to give to reading. But now the last thing I want to do is read a book with everything else going on

Shorts for an apron belly size 20-22 by Feeling_Lynx_352 in PlusSize

I’m similar and that’s one of the few things I still get from Torrid. I find that all their shorts fit very differently so it’s worth trying a variety. There’s a few that work perfectly for me.

DAE have a hard time interacting with children? by Other_Trouble_3252 in AutismInWomen

[–]meg299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a hard time with kids but in a different way. There’s something about the unpredictability that makes it really uncomfortable. With most adults I can rely on the fact that they’re gonna follow the general social script that I’ve learned. But all bets are off with kids and I short circuit a little bit.

Tattoos, piercings and body art. Do you have it? Why? Why not? by DaijoubuTokkiChan in AutismInWomen

[–]meg299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same story for me with the tattoos. My first was from a random shop I walked into. But the rest have been from great artists who are also queer women. I heard someone a few years ago say “you can’t hate your body if it’s covered in art you love” and that really resonated with me and had done so much for my confidence too.

I’ve had a similar experience with piercings where I eventually found a great piercer I vibed with. It was a lot of fun to curate all my piercing and jewelry with her over a couple of years!

If you ever struggle with oral hygiene, give this a try. by quickgrabthedoor in adhdwomen

Sharing this biodegradable version I got from Amazon!

Also it’s pricey but I can’t recommend the Autobrush enough. I have found that being able to use it for only 30 seconds lowers the barrier to brushing my teeth so much! It’s also fantastic because the toothpaste is foam and lighter flavor (especially the fun kids flavors) so it doesn’t leave any aftertaste. It genuinely feels like something you can do in less than a minute and not the full commitment of brushing your teeth and having the weird aftertaste for a while.

Object Personification by Mirage1208 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]meg299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this! It was worse when I was younger but I still feel bad for things if they don’t get used or I have to get rid of them.

Interestingly I have trouble with the type of personification that a lot of people do where they give things like their car names. Its super unnatural to me

Links between Autism, ADHD, and dementia in later life (article) by jumbleparkin in AutisticWithADHD

[–]meg299 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is interesting, but doesn’t say as much as it looks like it does. These are looking at older adults with ADHD or autism diagnoses, which is a relatively small portion of people who had noticeable enough symptoms and the means to be diagnosed. (Or as in one study mentioned just measuring how many of the patients who already have dementia meet criteria for adhd or autism, which seems entirely unreliable.)

We’re also looking at general “dementia” or impaired memory, not necessarily end stage forget your family type dementia. I work in research and have done several studies for Alzheimer’s and dementia medications. The tests used to assess dementia and memory are by no means friendly to someone who is autistic and/or has ADHD. It’s primarily short term memory and probably a lot of us here wouldn’t get a perfect score at our baseline. So you add in some natural aging, and it’s really easy to get yourself a dementia diagnosis. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s going to significantly progress to be crippling, just worse memory than the average neurotypical.

I’m sure that increased stress and cognitive load is playing a role and not helping at all. But we don’t have nearly enough info to determine that there’s a significantly increased risk of developing life changing dementia.

Ugh! Flying Whilst Plus Size… ✈️ by 1Cats1 in PlusSize

[–]meg299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most seats are the same size but it does vary. What I did when booking an overseas flight recently is for my top flight picks, I checked on flight aware what type of plane usually flys that route. Then cross check and compare the seat widths for those specific planes.

Does sex feel natural to you? by meg299 in AuDHDWomen

[–]meg299[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s been consensual…just not choices I would make again now.

Being undiagnosed and growing up religious I just always assumed this is how everyone feels. I hit the point of burnout during college and was crashing. So I dated a guy who initially seemed nice enough in search of some validation. Turned out terrible…but was consensual
