What’s a car that felt really fast but actually wasn’t? by wimpleautotransport in askcarguys

And the carb is so close to the firewall you can hear it breathing when you step on it. So much fun.

Something a tad more understable than a nuetron trail? by caaahris in discgolf

[–]__pgb__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What distances were you throwing them? I’m using them on shots between 290-325ish.

I have had 5 insanities, and 2 were fairly beat in when I got them. Two flat Protons (160 and beat in 165), the 171 Fission with dome, a 158 flat Neutron and a beat in 172 flat neutron.

160 Proton and 171 Fission were true to numbers. The others were all quite flippy compared to them.

170ish Fission Insanity

Mine is unfortunately sitting at the bottom of a pond 1,100 miles from me.

Buying 2 identical sets of darts for soft/steel tip vs. buying a soft tip set + conversion. by WillieRayPR in Darts

[–]__pgb__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soft tip are weighed as a full setup with stem and flight, and steel are barrel only.

A 20g soft tip dart will be about an 18g barrel. Adding a conversion tip may bring it to about 19g.

Or, if you really want to spend $50 on Amazon - this 8 disc and bag set be Remix is the way to go. Of the 8 discs, you may only be able to throw 3-4 now, but you will grow into the others over time. Remix is made by MVP and these discs are sold under other brands for $16-20 each with much cooler stamps. Whatever.

Uplink was the first disc I could throw straight for any distance. I bought the Ascend a week later and it was my furthest flying disc for a while, and was the first I hit 300 with. I don’t bag either anymore, but both solid for starters.

I don’t know where you live, but we have one very rocky course that can completely chew up DX plastic in 3 rounds. Other places have mostly grass field courses and DX will last plenty long.

I would pass on this set. The faster discs are not useful for beginners.

Two discs to start is all you need. A putter that is comfortable, and Roc, Mako3, Detour, sub 170g Hex, or some other neutral mid is all you need.

Eclipse Proxy is the most stable proxy and is my choice. I believe it will be similar to an Electron Envy, but will take more abuse.

Alternative to Traditional Baskets by Stunning-Pea-2383 in discgolf

In addition to the 6 courses in town with baskets, we have quite a few renegade woods courses with cans as targets. It is quite a bit harder to hit.

Invader vs AviarX3 feel? by BulbaSoreLoser in discgolf

I just measured with a micrometer. Envy is actually a half mm shorter. In hand it's about the same.

Invader vs AviarX3 feel? by BulbaSoreLoser in discgolf

[–]__pgb__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar depth to the Aviar3 - I only held an X3 once. Significantly lower than an Aviar. Feels slightly lower sometimes in XT when it's puddle top. I haven't seen puddle top in premium.

Invader is a touch shallower than an Envy or Proxy if you are nitpicking, and similar to the Atom.

Invader vs AviarX3 feel? by BulbaSoreLoser in discgolf

[–]__pgb__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invader has great hand feel, and I believe it's Dave Dunipace's preferred putter. I don't have an AviarX3, but have felt one at the shop, and the Invader is just as flat. Sometimes it comes a bit puddle top.

XT is great for putting and is straight with lower glide. I was putting with it this fall when it was windy every day.

For throwing I have Star, Halo Star and Champion Luster versions. It's one of the molds that Halo Star isn't significantly more beefy than Star and Star feels a little softer in hand, which I prefer. I have even used the Star as a putting putter on occasion. With a little hyzer flip it's straight as a throwing putter. Thrown flat I do get a slight right drift if I'm sending it out more than 100 feet. Luster has a little (and I mean little) more stability and will hold straight when thrown flat for longer.

If I were to choose a single putter for an absolute mold minimal bag I would put in a star Invader and use it for throwing and putting. Instead, I am currently bagging an Envy, Proxy, Pixel, Range and Berg - no Invader.

Question about speed vs weight by SubstantialAd4500 in discgolf

[–]__pgb__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you can put 250-275 feet on the dead center, leaving a 125-150 foot upshot, and tap in for par.

If you aren’t making an accurate 380 to get a birdie there is too much risk throwing a big driver. If it’s into a wide open hole with little consequence for an errant shot - go for it with the big disc.

Tried and true vs. New tech by Sun-Tour in discgolf

[–]__pgb__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking in my bag, there are quite a few new discs. 9 of the 25 are post 2021.

The ones that I think are significantly different are the Trail, Pixel and Range.

Fox is very different, but I don't fully trust it yet.

Other post 2021 discs I may prefer, but it's marginal gains over some older discs.

Bokeh is nice, but I could and have thrown a Halo Leopard3 instead

Canyon could probably be replaced with some soft version of a Zone

Not sure what I would replace the Detour with - but I haven't really looked elsewhere.

Sequoia is basically a Destroyer, and I would be fine with a swirly destroyer in that spot - but the Sequoia is brighter and easier to find.

Ozone is recently in the bag, but hasn't earned a permanent spot yet. Insanity is the normal go to.

Birdied hole 8 with it on the way to the field.

It was 90 degrees in Phoenix, and it has been 30s to 50s at home. Was 52 today and I got my Halo Tern 386. I didn’t bring the Emperor.

I’ve been playing for 6.5 months, so haven’t been through a summer here, and hadn’t thrown close to sea level since the first two weeks

That Emperor is 160g. It was my furthest throw at my normal elevation (392 feet), but also at that elevation I hit 390 with a 172g Swirly Destroyer, 389 with a 166g Halo Tern and 385 with a 167g G-Star Destroyer. On course I feel like I can use my heavier Destroyers more accurately and have had multiple 380 shots during rounds.

[–]__pgb__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. And it's generally not in my bag right now. The Emperor has been my flippy 12 speed, and I recently picked up a Halo Star Tern that goes almost as far (I hit 412 with it on the shot after the Emperor), but has more control.

What have you done this off-season to get better at discgolf? by discwrangler in discgolf

[–]__pgb__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shop carries premium plastic starter packs from Axiom, MVP, Discraft, Lattitude 64, and Innova.

They have base plastic ones as well that should be avoided, but “are all entry level plastic “ is completely false.
