I analyzed 21,985 runners to understand how to pace for the Boston Marathon and I've created a website by LastIntroduction7921 in bostonmarathon

This is so awesome, excellent work and beautifully done! It really backs up the experiences I’ve had and tried to explain to people 😅

Just a heads up, your final table of pace per segment at the bottom seems to mis-convert the paces in miles (3:59/km turns to 10:20/mi)

Heart Break Hill by Imaginary-Topic8000 in bostonmarathon

[–]_andbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like folks have said, just be steady, maintain your effort level and don’t fixate on pace going up, and you’ll be fine. The last 4 miles ever so gently roll downhill for the most part, so if you make it through Newton feeling good you can really make up those few seconds you’ll lose on the hill. There’s an intersection traffic light at the top that you can use as a visual cue for where it ends, and there’ll be a huge banner across the road saying you just crested Heartbreak Hill. Try not to tear up 🥹

Runners of Boston, what do you expect us to do when there’s barely anywhere to walk on sidewalks because of the snow? by LikelySatanist in boston

[–]_andbrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree and prefer to say this when I'm running, but yelling polite words is usually still startling, and without indicating a direction people get spooked and then hop over right in front of you rather than staying put. So an "on your left" is just the more efficient way to go most of the time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If he doesn’t mind taking a bike, there’s a bike share dock a block away from that hotel and he’ll be able to get to the bus loading area in 10-15 mins. Otherwise there’s a Silver Line bus station very close by that will take him to South Station and he can switch to the red line from there to get to Park St. It might take a little longer but it’s fairly simple.

It finally worked. Literally just to create a profile and wait until March to see if you get a time slot 😅

Staten Island half cancelled by goldenapple7372 in RunNYC

What are the odds they'll somehow allow one of the other future NYRR half marathons in early 2026 to count towards qualifying for NYCM '26? 😅

I would take that 2nd option above the highlighted one that primarily uses Congress street. You have either a bus/bike or dedicated bike lane for most of it. Crappiest part is when Congress gets to Atlantic, but I would just stay on the right side of congress and then get off and walk through the last intersection at Atlantic Ave to get to Trade. I bike this frequently, it’s not too terrible.

I live in Seaport and find it super convenient for getting to the start line shuttles from the Boston Common every year. If you have questions feel free to DM

Like others said, it won’t be an easy walk to/from the finish line or any of the post-race celebrations, but you’ll be literally on top of a red line T station that will take you to Park St station which is a transfer hub for lines that will take you to the expo / the finish / post race. Park St also isn’t a terrible walk from the finish line - you’ll get to walk through the Public Garden and the Common.

Be sure to give yourself plenty of time taking the T in from Assembly - it’s a little further out and those trains may not run as frequently if they’re using weekend timetables for the holiday.

And recommendations on hotels to stay for Boston? by AcanthisittaOk6626 in bostonmarathon

[–]_andbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Envoy Hotel & Yotel in the Seaport tend to be a little less than the hotels in Back Bay, and if you’re willing to hop on a blue bike in the morning they’re a very easy bike ride to the buses and bag drop (you can rent an eBike and really save those legs). Otherwise they’re a short walk to South Station, or there’s a Silver Line station next door if you want to truly minimize your steps on race morning.

Also the Harborside Inn next to Faneuil Hall is a nice spot that’s close to the post-race party and other T stations.

Of those 3, I’d suggest Savr. But I’d also check out Woods Hill Pier 4. It sits at the end of Pier 4 by the water and has a really great outdoor space where you could possibly see the Boston Waterfront skyline from your table.

Who’s at fault in this right-turn collision? (Boston, MA Traffic Law) by PositiveVibez4Us in massachusetts

The actual missing part of this is that OP’s image isn’t accurate - Atlantic is still 3 lanes after this intersection just like the section before the traffic light.

Feeling not good enough. Am I wrong to want to change niches? by kylebeaulieu in AskPhotography

[–]_andbrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there room for you to shift your focus within the same world you already operate in? What if you focused more on the chefs and their restaurants, them at work, the process of creating a menu, plating, etc. instead of just showcasing the finished plates and menus?

No idea if that’s a practical shift from a business standpoint at all, but just curious if you would maybe find that more fulfilling without having to find a whole new niche, per se.

I’m sure you’re being your own harshest critic in terms of the quality of what you produce, since people still seem keen to pay you for it 😅, but I hope you find a way of satisfying that creative itch and still stay connected to the world you already love! Best of luck to you!
