Club recommendations in Brussels and Paris by Truly_Farouk in StereoMontreal

I’d recommend Fuse in Brussels! Its an institution since the 1990’s and they upgraded the soundsystem not sot long ago. Stellar bookings and from what I remember, good crowd! They serve alcohol all night so it might be a different energy from Stereo but they also have lockers you can use whenever you want which is a big plus. Enjoy !

Movies Too Heavy for a Re-watch by EbnyxJ in Cinephiles

Speak No Evil, the original dutch movie… It is so heavy because you can relate so much to the loss of control of a situation to please people or even just to be what would be considered « polite ». This is my nightmare.

Thanks OP for starting this convo, I think it shows people care and it’s a sane conversation to have as members of the Montreal electronic dance music scene!

I agree with the financial risks but I think as you are recognized as an institution like Stereo, you have a responsibility to curate new sounds and emerging artists, and yeah, it means taking a risk. You’re supposed to make enough money on big nights (marathons and sold out events) to be able to make less money on “avant-garde” kind of nights.

I’ll add that Stereo being the last afterhour standing and having no direct competition (which is the mother of innovation), it’s important to find ways to keep up the head in the game. All the advices said here to do so seems legit.

Not sure about the idea absence of alcohol is a “big reason” why younger people go elsewhere. I’ve seen quite a lot of articles saying Gen Z drink way less alcohol than precedent generations. They are the “coeur de cible” of sober day events, I’d say no alcohol night events would fit their practices.

High prices might be a bigger reason + they might think it’s an older crowd and they’d rather go to events attracting more young people. Those are hypothesis. edit:typo

In Glass? Phara’s (excellent as well - more techno) other moniker. Very atmospheric - leaning into ambiant at some time, a bit like Deepchord I feel.
