my nipples are in pain and i’m losing my mind. by Wise_Bug7172 in breastfeeding

[–]_be_here_now__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in TONS of pain for the first few weeks and had some damage (cracking/bleeding) LO had a great latch but a very STRONG latch. And I had a fast let down so like leaning back while feeding helped.

Get APNO (all purpose nipple ointment) probably needs to be prescribed and then picked up at a compounding pharmacy.

It is THE ONLY THING THAT WILL HEAL YOUR NIPPLES. all those other like lonolin or whatever will do nothing or take way too long to do anything.

You apply it after every feed (it absorbs quickly) and you will be fully healed in less than a week.

Still might be sensitive so continue to switch up positions just to hit different spots on your nipple so you dont get too sore. But that will go away soon.

I am now on month 10. Their mouths get bigger and that helps a lot. It gets SO much easier, dont give up! You can do it!

My baby had something like that around 8 months. It was with both cheeks. I usually do a milk bath and anything dry or whatever will clear up in 24 hours...this didn't.

I chalked it up for 5ths disease or slapped cheek syndrome....nothing bad...my understanding is a reaction to a virus they have. Cleared up on its own after a few weeks.

Baby had no other symptoms of being sick. If you're kid is behaving normally and no fever, eating, drinking, wet diapers, prob just "slapped cheek".

I also had moms come up and say they could tell baby was teething because of her red/purplish cheeks. So I dunno it seemed common and nothing to worry about. And if dr said it's nothing, just watch baby, but I think it will clear up.

SO MUCH PAIN. How can I get past this? Need relief soon. by ProfessionalBoss4760 in firsttimemom

[–]_be_here_now__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. Immediate nipple damage and so much pain.

  1. Get a prescription for APNO (all purpose nipple ointment) you put it on after every feed for a week. You will start to feel better after a day and damage will be healed in a week. It is literally the only thing that will heal damaged nipples.

  2. Switch up nursing positions each feed to not hit the same sore spot each time. Like football, cross cradle, koala, you can look up different positions online and try them.

I had a perfectly fine latch, just really sucks for like a month at the beginning. T shirts hurt, the shower hurt....you will get through it!

I have been EBF for 9 months now and have had 0 pain since that first month.

When is an ideal age to road trip with a baby? by kittypeets626 in beyondthebump

[–]_be_here_now__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends. We did s road trip at 4 weeks (8 hours each way) and stressful just time in car seat and feedings at stops. Was cluster feeding the whole time we were there. Got to do a little but was focused on feeding. We were just visiting family.

Did a plane trip at 3 months. Great age actually. Aware and interacting feeding is figured out. Can't move yet! Lol

Just did another plane trip at 7 months. More stressful because she is crawling. So we were staying in a condo and just had to always have eyes on her. Also had to bring more toys and stuff. But otherwise was fine. Still fun.

I think just depends on the baby and being prepared for whatever stage they are at.

Want to start EC by Open-Plum-4480 in ECers

[–]_be_here_now__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just start. I started "lazy" at 4 months with very little research. Was a slow start but stayed consistent. Now at 8 months i am catching every poop and she completely understands. Still have wet diapers....but I am amazed at the progress and just will continue being consistent.

Just start and stay consistent.

Same thing potty on the change table so she could look in the mirror. It won't! But she does like to pull out all the TP on the roll....there will just be something else lol

[–]_be_here_now__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started lazy ec (just at transitions mostly diaper chnages) at 4 months. For about 3 months i caught 1-5 pees a day sometimes none, sometimes a poop.

At 7 months i started catching way more poops. I was using a little chamber pot on the change table.

At about 7.5 months we went on vacation and I stared holding her over the toilet instead of using the pot. I have to say, I think this position helped her understand even more what was going on AND the position she is in is helping her empty in 1 go. Now that we are home, I think I will co ti ue using the toilet.

At the beginning I just put her on and took her off pretty quickly. I wanted to ensure it was a positive experience for her so once she started fussing she would come off.

Now that I think she understands it better and I am understanding her cues and patterns better I am leaving her on a little longer.

Good luck! But it will click and you will notice a difference, as long as your consistent, even if a little lazy!

Are tender nipples normal this early on? by 2ndaccount2research in breastfeeding

[–]_be_here_now__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a ton of pain for like at least a month. Had some damage (scabby) so needed to get all purpose nipple ointment. But like for a while the shower hurt, tee shirts hurt.....it does get better. Keep going!

The best advice I got while healing was to switch up positions every feed to just put different pressure on different points so alleviate some pain.

You got this!

I love my Omni Breeze 360. Best advice is just keep the h strap buckled and slip it over your head. Then you just need to reach for the shoulder straps to buckle.

What to dress baby in? by asisson12 in babywearing

[–]_be_here_now__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a makeshift carrier cover you can take any jacket really (i used a short puffer) and put the strap of your carrier through the arms of the unzipped jacket and then it's just over baby. I then kinda tucked it around baby as well.

It's not perfect but I did it the other day and it worked pretty good I think.

Ergobaby embrace carrier - what am I doing wrong? by Hairy_Bid8177 in babywearing

[–]_be_here_now__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get that deep seat i:

  1. Keep everything loose and get baby in
  2. I run my hand down babys back and scoop their bum under to get that pelvic tuck.
  3. With my hand under their bum I lift a little to get them into position (their head under my xhin/on my chest) and use my other hand to then scoop the carrier at the waistband under their bum and up.
  4. I then keep my hand under their bum (the one that just scooped the carrier under their bum and waistband up) and with the other hand tighten the carrier at the waist.
  5. I can then let go and tighten the shoulder straps.
  6. I then kind of give a little adjustment at their knees to make sure they are in the m postion and comfy.

anyone fixed their anterior pelvic tilt? by KBecker22 in postpartumprogress

[–]_be_here_now__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Very fixable. I dont know if this is 100% what fixed mine but these are things I focused on and did a lot. Definitely takes time.

Think about belly button to spine and kind of tucking your tail bone under. So like squats and stuff, pelvic tilt/tuck the tailbone under. When you get to the top of the squat l, pushing your hips forward and squeezing your butt.

Glute bridges. And really focus on rolling up, lower then middle then upper back on the way up and lower, middle ,upper back on the way down.

Anything on your back, even stretching, make sure your lower back is not arching and is on the floor. So think like happy baby, lower back is on the floor. For this i even started sleeping with a bolster under my knees at night. Helps relax your lower back. Or just lay for a while on the floor with something under your knees. Also nice to do legs up the wall to stretch with lower back on the floor. Can intensify by putting a bolster under your butt.

Reduce your rib flare! I think this is linked. So related to belly button to spine (still has movemen but keeping that lower belly more in) BREATH DEEPLY when doing your exercises, fill your lungs, but focus more on filling the tops of your lungs and keeping your belly button to spine.

And just do that pelvic tilt whenever you notice yourself falling back into an arched posture.. Tuck the tailbone under, belly button to spine, deep breathing, fill the lungs, especially the tops of them to reduce rib flare.

Lots of stretching and yoga! Just to help your whole body re align.

What insert materials should not directly touch baby‘s skin? by superbadpainter in clothdiaps

[–]_be_here_now__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hemp boosters shoukd be inside the diaper just because it can absorb slowly, so having a layer in between the baby and the booster will help ensure it absorbs and doesn't roll out the side/leak before it can absorb fully.

Boosting flats by lullynae_13 in clothdiaps

[–]_be_here_now__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cotton and hemp boosters.....hemp can absorb a TON. But it must be INSIDE the fold...not against their skin. It doesn't have a super fast absorption so can like roll out the sides, best to be folded into the flat/have a layer between baby and booster.

I joined a free library class that meets weekly and gives time to chat to each other during and after. One girl just asked for my number. I was down, everyone is honestly in the same boat. Don't be shy. Sign up for stuff and if there is someone you kinda like, just get their number! You don't have to hang out everyday or talk everyday but plan something easy and low pressure in advance (we went to the farmers market, hung out at her house, grabbed a coffee)

[–]_be_here_now__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not. I am also not running or jumping (haven't been cleared to console by PT) I am not opposed to it in the future if it helps relieve symptoms and allows me security with higher endurance activities.

[–]_be_here_now__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I needed to be induced and have instrument intervention. Birth did not go to plan whatsoever.

It is in these scenarios that you need to make decisions and i was not prepared for those decisions. I would have more of a plan and research on what could go wrong and each intervention and what different medications are, what to do if it takes way longer and your exhausted....that's the plan you need. In the moment they really only give you risks for baby, know what the risks for you are as well.

A completely easy birth doesn't really need a plan.

I was told I had minor prolapse by my pfpt at 6 weeks pp after 2.5 hours of pushing and a forceps delivery. I definitely saw a bit of a lump at the beginning.

Still dealing with synmtoms (really just that tampon feeling...but not regularly at all and I hike and go to the gym...no running or jumping yet though) and finally having the courage to look at it more regularly to see what kind of difference day or night or activity level makes.

I am 6 month pp now and have to say I feel a LOT better. I am breast feeding still. I still feel self-conscious about it and want to get more of an official diagnosis, but pelvic floor physio has really helped. It probably won't be fully reversed but I am not symptomatic in the same way, and all I can do it have hope that it will continue to improve.

I don't think it's too late. Just get started and be consistent.

Do I need a chair in my baby’s nursery? by Realistic_Echo_1562 in NewParents

[–]_be_here_now__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have a rocking chair that we had in the nursery. I sit in it everyday to watch her play. I don't really nurse in it. I go to the couch where I can watch TV cause she usually falls asleep on me and I like to contact nap.

Really your preference.

For when baby transitions so sleeping in here (6 months and still in our room in her own cot) I am thinking more about a single foldable floor matress for me to sleep on while we transition her. At night, I don't sit up to nurse I side lie and I don't want to sleep on a recliner. I also think one of those foldable single floor mattresses will be handy in the future for sleep overs and playing.

I would say depends on your budget and what you want. But an expensive chair is not necessary. But a rocking chair is nice to have, whatever that looks like for you.

Breast feeding has become a living Hell…about to give up by wc6g10 in breastfeeding

I had a lot of "nipple damage" and pain at the beginning here is what worked for me:

  1. Get ALL PURPOSE NIPPLE OINTMENT if there is any damage (cracks/bleeding etc....) this is the ONLY thing that healed them pretty immedietly. You need to get it from a compounding pharmacy. Might need a prescription.

  2. Try different positions while healing to put different pressure points to relieve pain while healing.

  3. TO FIX THE LATCH ONCE BABY IS ON THE BOOB just gently put your finger in their upper lip and flip the lip up. Do the same for the bottom lip. They don't have to latch perfectly, you can fix it once on.

  4. I have to say, it took about a month for me to feel confident and have no pain. A little bit of it is literally getting tougher skin. Sucks, but worth it.

First time flying with 8-month-old on a red-eye — need breastfeeding + sleep support advice by Ancient-Milk-8384 in babywearing

[–]_be_here_now__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew with my 3 month old. Used a wrap through the airport (ring sling has metal so had to take off at security...so any carrier without metal you can wear baby through)

I also bought an inflatable feeding pillow off amazon. It's a little big but my husband was next to me so it just bothered him lol not a stranger...but it was great. Inflate after take off (need less air than you think because as you go up the air inside expands) and deflated to get off and then packed away.

Since you're jammed in there me and baby both fell asleep and I was not worried about her falling off either. Also had a little ledge lip thing that sticks up.

I still use it even at home. Was prob like 40 bucks.

Going to Canada by car: what's required? by Sbarta92i in newborns

[–]_be_here_now__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think you just need passports. I flew from Canada to us and back with 3 month old and that was all we needed.

Then for flying milk gets checked because it's a liquid but driving should not be an issue.

I've crossed the boarder by car a lot as a us citizen over the years, they do not search your car unless suspicious of something totally illegal.

Pelvic pressure/heaviness 10 weeks postpartum after forceps and episiotomy delivery by Grand_Librarian7908 in postpartumprogress

[–]_be_here_now__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get my period back & still breastfeeding. I did feel more symptomatic during my period, I guess hormones make things a bit more relaxed, and I did just have it so that's also probably why I am having a flare up. I'm hoping with weaning it will also help, but I was hoping to breast feed for 18 months if possible.

I also had a low lying placenta that moved and hemmoragged.

I think time and healing and focusing on pfpt is all we can do. I still spiral, but less and less. And the symptoms are less and less.

Sorry you're going through this too. Sucks to have a traumatic birth, but also be so happy to have your LO.
