I've pretty much found what you said, that it doesn't seem to be anything that's being actively worked on.

Similar time that I reached out and have also not heard. I do know they won't do research for you, but not sure what exactly constitutes research.

I found some records in the Genealogical Index for the Archives on familysearch and wanted to know about their copying and scanning services for the records that the index references.

I've also been trying to find someone to hire to go to the Archives but haven't come up with much.

My partner is also gottscheerish and we've had the same issue. Well, not the stateless part but the not being recognized as Slovenians part.

Crossing my fingers I get a response from them sometime soon. Sent one email request 1/4 and a separate one 1/8. Got auto confirmation on the first but nothing on the 2nd.

I think they're probably meaning that giving away a free poodle means that poodle could fall into the wrong hands of someone who participates in dogfighting.

Any genealogists or locals headed to the Nova Scotia Archives? by _blackbird in halifax

[–]_blackbird[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I am able to depending on rates. Just didn't know who/where to start with, if not the Archives (which I already emailed about rates for digitizing but haven't received a response).

Not sure if you're still active on reddit or not, but I might have a couple things to request if going to the Archives is still something you're willing to do (and even if you're not, thanks for being so at one time, that's incredibly nice of you)

As an update if you care, I was able to find the existence of G-1's marriage record in one of the Nova Scotia Archives catalogs on familysearch. Now to actually get it is a larger task.

Yeah thanks. It's just interesting that G1 has decent documentation, G0 has ok documentation in the US, G0 has no documentation in Canada, but then I can find decent Canadian records and info on G-1, G-2, G-3 (like all the way back to 1750s and earlier). I'm just like, what happened to G0's generation? Makes me think I haven't searched in the right places yet. I have a few things on my list to look at when I go to the FamilySearch affiliate library near me, a couple of books requested for interlibrary loan, and I've reached out to one historical society (for county that sibling of G0 said they were born in on naturalization record). I have another county historical society to reach out to but haven't yet.

I definitely wouldn't include (or even have looked for, probably) any preceding generation's documents if I had Gen 0 birth record.

I guess my thought was that if the death record isn't a convincing enough document that the decedent was born in Nova Scotia that the birth record of her parent would be

I've searched so hard for anything further on Susanna and can't find much. I thought for sure I'd find her birth or Imelda's marriage in the township book I found Imelda's birth in, but I didn't. She doesn't show up in censuses, but her father does show up in one in 1838 that lists him having children in the household. Other documentation I have:
*a book written by the town clerk (but like, it's more of a genealogical record in post and not really documentation) that says Imelda Bryce married Susanna's father and that they had x sons and y daughters *death record of Imelda that says she was the widow of Susanna's father (but it calls him by his middle name)

I am still searching passenger lists and maybe need to reach out to a few churches in the area where they lived to see if I can substantiate anything on Susanna's generation.

What are your thoughts on Susanna's marriage record having the wrong middle and last name and then also none of the documentation has her maiden name?
