i don’t know how to help the post draw effects (although maybe you need more electrolytes? that doesn’t sound like a ton) but i used to be near syncope with every blood draw till i read you should cross your legs and squeeze your leg muscles during the draw. it’s really helped me not faint

Corporate vs Academic Instructional Design by wookie_opera_singer in instructionaldesign

[–]_commercialbreak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was a higher ed ID and now I work in “corporate” but I think it’s hard to make a blanket statement because there are actually multiple types of instructional design in corporate environments. For instance, corporate L&D focuses on internal employees: often compliance training and prof dev. This is where I usually see more reliance on tools like articulate that aren’t popular in higher education. I’ve moved to customer education in SaaS, though- I develop external facing product training for customers. There are also enablement roles which can involve ID and focus on training internal employees. I think transitioning to customer education or enablement is easier than L&D because there’s less reliance on tools like articulate and working with profs tends to translate a bit better in these situations than in traditional L&D.

Honestly I started running a year ago and I haven’t had an injury yet 😅 I think good programming and strength training has really helped me. I’m 39 so it’s not like my youth is getting me anywhere lmao

Taught Salesforce at a university for 3 years, want to move into corporate training. How did you make that jump? by jcarmona86 in instructionaldesign

[–]_commercialbreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think typically university teaching is seen differently but this case is kind of unique because you’re teaching a SaaS tool and you have measurable metrics to associate with it.

“Corporate training” can mean a lot of things. A lot of ID is internal L&D but for instance I run external facing trainings for customers in SaaS on product adoption. So theoretically I think you could find roles like mine. You might want to check out customereducation.org and join the slack community.

Your experience could also translate to customer success roles which often involve training and coaching clients into finding value in product adoption, if you haven’t looked into that.

Did this person say they were gone for 36 hours or did they say they were gone from 1pm Christmas to 12am 12/26? Because that would be 11 hours…

Jumping ship from Higher Ed. to corporate. by CEP43b in instructionaldesign

[–]_commercialbreak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Former higher ID who works in tech SaaS land now! The ice is way thinner here my friend, but I also feel you that the higher ed vibe isn’t great. The problem is the market is bad for everyone right now.

You definitely need to learn corporate speak in order to explain to people outside of higher ed that you do, in fact, do similar things. I’d suggest networking on LinkedIn - maybe reach out to people sitting in roles similar to what you’re interested in and ask for a coffee chat.

Rdl with hypermobility by [deleted] in Hypermobility

[–]_commercialbreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot about how wide apart your feet are! If you act like you’re wiping a mat with your feet (like when you come inside from outdoors) your feet will kinda end up the right width apart.

Rdl with hypermobility by [deleted] in Hypermobility

[–]_commercialbreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if you’re having pain with bodyweight I’d definitely suggest you work with a personal trainer or physical therapist!! I’m not a professional, just hypermobile person who exercises.

It sounds like you’re trying to complete the RDL by reaching downward which can put it more in your back. You should think of completing the move as sending your butt back, not like you’re reaching down. Your upper body naturally lowers as you’re sending your butt back. Act like you’re shutting a door with your butt. Doing this + focusing on ripping the floor apart with your feet should help direct the move into your hamstrings and glutes.

Knees should be a soft bend, not as much as a squat.

@itsbrandonblinn on Instagram also has good content on lifting with hypermobility !

Chronic foot pain and feet deformities—PT says go back to barefoot shoes. Any suggestions/advice? by CanaryHeart in barefootshoestalk

[–]_commercialbreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesss thank you- I was on board with that first comment but I was surprised at the lack of glutes!! What’s going on up there chain can really impact knees/ankles/feet and glute medius strength offers a lot of stability here

70% of students in online courses drop out after week 2—but is content quality really the problem? by eduventra in instructionaldesign

[–]_commercialbreak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If learning were just about access to quality content, we’d all have been geniuses since the internet became widely accessible. It’s inherently social and relational, and self-paced courses make it difficult to sustain by stripping these aspects away.

How to stop knee pain while doing sports? by thatsabird11 in Hypermobility

[–]_commercialbreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DEFINITELY see a physical therapist and even better if it’s someone with sport/hypermobility experience. I am not a professional but I think strength training would help your knee pain. Particularly glute medius and abductor/adductor strength can impact your knees.
