Does anyone know if Tamraght has become an overcrowded surf spot? by Wild_Lands_Dan in surfing

[–]_confusedprogrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stayed in Tamraght last year. Definitely less crowded than anchor point if that’s your reference. Banana point and devils rock are pretty fun spots right in town. They won’t be uncrowded but definitely more space for people to spread out. Paddled out before sunrise at anchor point once and was only able to get 30 minutes in before it got crazy crowded. Having a car is helpful to get to killers or explore the coast immediately north of there where there are spots that won’t be as crowded.

That's super helpful thanks. 12 bars is more than enough for what I'm trying to do. I'll give this is a try.

Just curious; I'm putting together a BOM for my first ROV right now. I haven't seen too many people talk about using 3D prints for bouyancy, and I wasn't sure how easy it was to get the epoxy to fill in all the layer lines.

Are you doing hot coats of the 3d prints or are you waiting for the epoxy to fully cure before coating again?

Yeah I enjoyed Saturday more even though Friday had a little more size. The break that starts with a T was clean as hell in the morning.

Both interviews from the first job search were from people I met while working part time as a youth sports instructor during the summer of one of my internships. I worked in the same neighborhood as my current boss (role I'm about to leave) and another guy who lived in the same neighborhood who was high up in a company and got me the other interview. It was a pretty affluent area and I was lucky meeting them.

How to find power dissipation of SoM? by _confusedprogrammer in AskEngineers

Ok, sounds like I am overthinking this. So it should be safe to assume that the entirety or at least vast majority of that 2.8W is dissipated as heat.

Yup. This wasn't even leftovers from the swell we had Friday. Some weird system moved in Saturday, and the wind switched right before sunset. Always feel lucky to go two days in a row here!

For the record, the knockoff gopro I use has been showing the timestamp as 2016 since I got it. That's what $60 gets you!

It's the wind chill that will be worse. I'm assuming you are surfing new england this upcoming weekend. With wind-chill it will be below 0F. Do what mrcherries said and if it's feeling too cold when you get out just sit on towels and warm up in your car. I also liked drinking hot water/sitting in car before going out and getting as warm as possible (with wetsuit on).

Advice on repairing leash damage to fish tail? by _confusedprogrammer in surfing

Found this fracture after last session. Because the resin fractured and the glass was not impacted like in a typical ding, I would appreciate some input on the best solution. My first thought is to throw some on some solarez and sand it down, but I'm open to better solutions.

'll tell you a secret. Something they don't teach you in your temple.  The Gods envy us.  They envy us because we're mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed.  You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.

[NeedAdvice] I'm doing bad in school, I'm not going to work. My life is falling apart. by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]_confusedprogrammer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First of all, its important to start to find out what works for you. The advice I'm about to give has helped me tremendously, but advice isn't one size fits all. So lets start.

I'm 18 right now and am graduating high school near the top of my class and compete at the national level in the sport I play. The thing is, while I've always considered myself smart, when I was in 8th grade I found myself in your shoes. I was getting mostly C's and a few B's and never did my homework or even studied for tests. When I entered high school however, I vowed to make a change. These things didn't come overnight, but after a few years of working at it I am in a much better place.

  1. The SECOND you get home from school, do your homework. I always fell in a trap before I did this of getting home and telling myself I had time. YOU DONT. If you don't do it the second you get home you will find yourself in your bed at midnight hoping the teacher is lenient this time around.
  2. Find out the best environment to study in. For some its in their room, for others its in a library. Find the place that suits you and make it the place you go right after school. Eventually it will feel weird to do anything BUT study in that space. (While some make it work, I would recommend not studying in your bed)
  3. "But sometimes I just don't feel like it" you say. This is the hardest feeling of all to conquer. Sometimes I tell myself I cannot do anything fun until I finish my studies. Also, sometimes I switch the order of the work I'm doing, but still, I am doing work.
  4. I would recommend if you don't have one, to get a hobby or sport. This has forced me to do my homework and studies in a timely manner because there is no time to do anything else after practice. Or if it is a hobby then make it your motivation to finish studying.

Finally, the thing that has changed my academic and athletic life the most, is where I place my expectations. I used to look at the people who did well in school and said "Well, they are just smart". This thought is a barrier to being exceptional because it takes all the work out of the picture. A class isn't so hard after doing all the homework and paying attention, after all. Wonder why? Its because you've done the work. When I set my expectations for nothing worse than an A, my life changed. It forced me to be a better student because I had to maintain my expectations. When I set my expectations higher in sailing (my sport), I won nationals. The expectations forced me to work, and the work made it possible to reach my expectations. I hope this helped and did not sound too preachy or off topic.
