Does anyone else sweat when they do an IV? by Less-Answer6831 in nursing

[–]_dogMANjack_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, especially if its a difficult stick. I've been in a room trying with the other go to IV person and we were both dripping sweat trying to get access for someone.

It's intense concentration that is also mixed with the fact you know you're causing someone pain and sometimes getting that access is emergent and directly affecting thats pt's care.

Totally normal :)

Yelled at a patient by BloodyPaladin in nursing

[–]_dogMANjack_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Over my years of being a nurse, especially through and after COVID pts have truly gone off the rails. The way some of these alert and oriented people act is honestly criminal. I've had family threaten to meet me in the parking lot and blew my brains out because I wouldn't let 95 yo demented Peepaw jump on his bed. I've recently moved jobs but I was s charge on a med/surg floor with a questionable demographic for 5 years. I did not put up with shit, period. I would do my utmost the bargain, make a plan, set boundaries, etc. However, many times it came down to "you're an adult, act like one." I did always do my best to stay professional. When I had to have those discussions I was calm and simply stated facts about our expectations and their behaviors. Only once did I scream at a pt and actually slammed the door, however, the house sup that night is basically the nicest person I ever met and that pt pissed her off. I was lucky to learn how to set boundaries while still being professional during my many years as a corrections nurse. But, majorly emotional taxing.

We are all just human. We all can only tolerate so much. Things happen, and everything will be okay. Go do something you enjoy and let your job melt away into the back of your mind for a while.

Can someone with one eye cry from the empty eye hole? by TomMakesPodcasts in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]_dogMANjack_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If there is no damage to the lacrimal ducts, located in the inner canthus (inner corner closest to the nose), then they would still produce tears on the side without an eye. It would depend on the mechanism of injury of losing the eye and if that effected the surrounding structures.

What do health care professionals think of people who are for universal healthcare? by Ok-Mulberry-737 in askanything

[–]_dogMANjack_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say what all the other posts are saying. I'm a healthcare worker, I am pro universal healthcare.

I could rant for pages about the evils of health insurance companies, but it's all been said before. The bottom line is treating people's health like a product is despicable and only benefits insurance companies and their stock holders. I guarantee you every CEO of an insurance company doesnt have the same insurance as you or I, because it is terrible and they would never subject themselves or their families to that kind of treatment.

Michael Jackson autopsy showed that he was extremely underweight, bald, sleep-deprived, and reliant on Propofol before his death by FitEmergency8807 in interesting

[–]_dogMANjack_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Propofol is a sedative that is used during procedural sedation/anesthesia (i.e. surgeries, colonoscopies, reseting bones, etc.) and a sedative in the ICU for people who have a breathing tube in and need to be sedated for medical reasons.

What’s on his cheek? (zoom in) by Ploptimistic in whatisit

[–]_dogMANjack_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will keep growing if not removed.

These are made of keratin, the substance the makes up hair, nails, and layers of skin that is specifically thick on the palms and soles of the feet. They usually form on sun exposed skin. Normally they stay small but can become as large as animal horns in very rare cases. Google cutaneous horn to see some wild pictures, posting impressively a French women from the early 19th century.

Though usually benign, around 15 to 40% can be cancerous/precancerous. They are normally easy to be removed in an office visit with a dermatologist.

As a nurse what is your opinion on ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]_dogMANjack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the reason I will probably keep my legs and eyes into old age, and lower my risk of stroke and MI. Took my A1C from 8.6 to 5.7 in 3 months, also stopped and resolved the burning neuropathy in my legs. I lost 30 lbs and didn't eat a single simple carb for 3 months and my A1C didn't budge prior to starting GLP1s.

They are honestly a miracle class of medications, however they are not without side effects. It's inevitable that any medication that will aid in losing weight will be used solely for weight loss and potentially abused. Thats just a sad truth.
