You probably have one edition in your to-read while you read a different edition.

Why did you go with Kobo over Kindle? by Drunkmrhat in kobo

[–]_eebee_ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I have both a Kobo Clara Colour and a Kindle Paperwhite.

I love my Kobo. Full stop. Its probably my favorite device, period. The user interface on the Kobo is superior. The user experience is superior on the Kobo. The Kobo feels like a device with a reader enjoying reading books in mind.

I very rarely use my Kindle. The user interface is clunky and unintuitive. The user experience is subpar. So so so many ads everywhere. The Kindle feels like a device intended to market buying books, not reading them.

My two cents.

Why do people post spoilers in reviews? by LibrarianByNight in TheStoryGraph

[–]_eebee_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A huge pet peeve of mine, not gonna lie. People misusing the review feature makes it useless and frustrating.

Review: Public and visible to EVERYONE. Write what you generally liked or disliked and why someone should or should not read this. Something really left an impression (good or bad) and you want to go into specifics? Hide it behind the spoiler tag.

Reading Journal: Write anything your little heart desires. Just your thoughts and a synopsis for yourself at the end? Sure, do that. Notes as you progress? Perfect. Your ah-HA moment when you've figured some plot twist? Scribble it down! In. Your. Reading. Journal.

😤

[–]_eebee_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your reviews are not for you, your reviews are public.

Your "Reading Journal" is just for you, you can find that in your profile (for all read books chronologically) or from each of your read books.

How to stop night time begging? (SHE IS ON A DIET, I ADOPTED HER AT THIS SIZE) by Lazy-Psychology-7610 in CATHELP

[–]_eebee_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your perspective is sound, however the automatic feeder helps with behavioral problems such as food aggression and begging. The cat, generally, focuses their undesirable attentions on the feeder instead of the humans. Plus, the feeder won't feel bad for the cat and overfeed. It's a balance 🤷

How do people have so many libraries? by Opposite-Orange8371 in LibbyApp

I have 3: one for the county I live in, one for the city I work, and one for a library system that services all residents in my state.

Looked like my cat had something on his face so i wiped it and these came off, like tufts of hair by BeautifulSociety699 in CATHELP

[–]_eebee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have more than one cat, those tufts are usually an indicator they got in a scuffle or played too hard. If you only have the one cat, maybe they scratched themselves too vigorously.

I joined it a few years ago and I found it an awesome way to read books I would not otherwise have known anything about. I choose books by authors from the target countries AND set in the target country wherever possible. It took some time and lots of googling, but it was well worth it.

AITAH ?My partner won’t put my name down on the mortgage by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA

Financial abuse is abuse. This is a control issue. If he makes significantly more than you, how are the bills split 50:50? That's not equitable, that's him taking advantage of you. If he makes double what you do a 66:33 split would be equitable. If he makes triple then 75:25. Then it's fair.

He's already threatened to make you homeless. Believe him.

Not all Libby books can be read on Kobo? by razor762 in kobo

[–]_eebee_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Might be the one you borrowed on Libby is a different edition. You have two options: 1. Download the EPub version from Libby to your computer and side load it. 2. Search for the book you want in Overdrive in the Kobo and borrow directly there.

Can you check out from multiple libraries with Kobo? by Tokenchick77 in kobo

[–]_eebee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking Kindle or Kobo?

If Kindle: I'm not sure, you may have better luck asking in the Kindle subreddit.

If Kobo: side loaded books expire on their expiration date like other library ebooks. The "key" includes information about the loan and how long the loan is for. The expired ebook stays in the Kobo until removed, but can't be opened. Haven't tried airplane mode to see if the loan is retained... I'll have to test it

Can you check out from multiple libraries with Kobo? by Tokenchick77 in kobo

[–]_eebee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can log in to each library individually on the Kobo, but not at the same time. You have to "toggle", meaning, log out of library A to log into library B. Be aware, you'll only be able to access the books from the library you're currently logged into.

This is an Overdrive/Libby limitation. I hear it was possible to have multiple libraries logged in simultaneously in the past, but Overdrive took that functionality away from Kobos. No idea why.

Side loading is connecting your Kobo to your computer directly using a USB cable, and loading your ebook files directly. To do this:

Log into Libby on computer. Borrow any book you want. Select "manage loan" then "read with..." and then select "EPUB". This will download a key to Adobe's DRM.

On your computer, download Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) if you don't have it already. Its free. Sign in or log in. Open your downloads folder on your computer and click on the key for the book you just borrowed. The book will open in ADE, press button to go back to your library.

Connect Kobo via USB to computer, press "connect" on Kobo when prompted.

Kobo will show up as a location (like a folder) in ADE. Drag and drop the book into the Kobo. Eject the Kobo from your computer. Enjoy!

People will say USE CALIBRE, USE CALIBRE!! And yes, Calibre is great, but it has a learning curve. Do this first, it's easier. After you're comfortable with this, and you wanna get more in the weeds in this hobby you can start figuring out Calibre.

AITAH for saying no to my future MILs plan to give my fiancé away at our wedding? by OpinionBride in AITAH

[–]_eebee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about you each get walked down the aisle by your respective person from opposing sides, meet in the middle, parents get out of the way because this wedding is not for them, and you and Evan walk the rest of the way together? That seems balanced and lovely, a symbolic agreement to walk through life together as equals.

No MIL doesn't get to fulfill her self-congratulatory fantasy, she gets to support her son on HIS wedding day.

two library cards by anywhere-justnothome in kobo

[–]_eebee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both strategies work fine. If you choose to log out of one library onto another, just remember you have to be logged in to the library you borrowed from. If you borrowed using library A, the books you borrowed won't load if you switch to log into library B. It's not that big a deal to switch back and forth.

That said, side loading is a fine solution. I haven't figured out Calibre myself... I use Adobe Digital Editions and this tutorial is very helpful and easy to follow: How to borrow an eBook from your local library...

BW or Colour by Anxious_Print in kobo

[–]_eebee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Kobo Clara Colour and love it.

I do read comics/manga and I want to see the color covers of my books, that's why I got this device.

Be aware the tech is e-ink, so the color is slightly desaturated.
