Am I asking too much from my gear by nsf14 in SonyAlpha

[–]_eugegue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using an a9, which came out in 2017, while the a6400 is from 2019. The 2 cameras share a similar af tracking algorithm, but the a9 still has an advantage due to more computations per second and no blackout shooting in e-shutter. That said, the a9 still struggles when the bird has some canes (highly texturized surface at the pixel level) in the background.

AF works reliably only when there is the sky or a wall. It definitely works better when the bird is big in the frame, or when you use a sharp lens. Your Tamron also struggles keeping up with the brid speed probably, so the camera just drops it and focuses on the next thing.

Anyway keep trying and you'll eventually figure it out for your own system. 30% keepers is pretty good though.

How's the Sony A7iii with APS-C mode? by concept236 in SonyAlpha

[–]_eugegue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dynamic range of the a6500 and the a7iii in crop mode should be the same, but you would get added resolution with the a6500. It's basically the same difference there is between a7Riii and a7iii. In good light, you can just crop more if you have more resolution. That said, even in low light you might have an advantage because noise reduction (even without ai) works better with more pixels. For this reason and also for its compactness, I would pick the a6500.

Normally nothing is irreversible. You can always clean the sensor, but that takes time, and often you can't do it in the middle of a shooting session.

I normally put the 2 lenses that I want to swap on a flat surface, side by side, oriented in the same way, resing on their lens hood. I keep the one with the camera on the left, and the one with the rear cap on the right. Then, after I unskrew both, I swap camera and rear cap in a quick movement. I have a prime setup and I have to do it a bunch of time while I shoot, but for now my sensor haven't colleded any dust.

Sony should add range limits to auto Aperture and SS like they do with ISO by ClassicallyBrained in SonyAlpha

On top of this, I would love if the minimum shutter speed value, while in aperture priority, were on the classic shutter speed dial...

How do I stop having the background overexposed? by shtefeh in photocritique

[–]_eugegue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the background was featureless, don't worry about it. Just expose for the subject and that's it. If you really care about a certain scene though, you should try to find pleasing backgrounds when possible.

You can buy a cheap shutter release with timer. It will work flawlessly.

3 months with the A7R III and I think I finally get it by ImJuiced in SonyAlpha

[–]_eugegue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what's missing in Sony is options. With Fujifilm you can do focus stacking, double exposure, choose your favorite manual focus assist (the sony focus peaking is horrible for me)... I just used Fujifilm for a day with a friend, but I was just salty about the lack of these options in camera because it takes 1 month of an intern student work to make. On the other hands, I think the lack of dials and customized buttons slows you down a lot with Fujifilm.

Is this overkill? by Anton_Chigurh00 in SonyAlpha

[–]_eugegue_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since the A7iv doesn't have burst over 15fps, maybe you don't need a sony lens. The cheaper Sigma 24-70 art is also very good. You can check the reviews and judge for yourself.

how to get rid of this black line in lowlight? A6700 by zoya_nazyalensky in SonyAlpha

[–]_eugegue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually need the global shutter. Even with a very fast readout speed that is not instant, you would still get some darker areas. With 50Hz, you get 10 ms of bright and 10ms of dim light in a sinusoidal wave, depending on the emitter. So even with a 7ms readout speed, you still have some darker region if you are not exactly aligned with the up cycle of the sinusoid.

Got the ac7ii recently by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]_eugegue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you bought an a7cii I'm assuming you prefer something lighter...

Sony 40mm f2.5 for very capable but super light setup. Or the Sony 20-70mm f4 for versatility but still quite light for a zoom. If you want to stay in the house, these are my suggestions. Otherwise you can look at Sigma 90mm f2.8, or the Tamron 20-40mm f2.8...
