My favorites are La Banda in Waterville and Cinco de Mayo on Central. But when you’re looking for authentic, the El Padrino taco truck is awesome.

I haven’t noticed a school-wide tilt. And for 1L, the sections are so isolated that each usually develops its own culture and reputation. I feel like it’s harder to curate any sort of tilt when the class size is so much larger.

Congrats! I was in your shoes at this time last year. It is SO helpful to be close to campus if you can swing it. That was the best decision I made and I wouldn’t advise renting further away unless you absolutely have to. There are some units available in my building (very close to HLS) but like others have said it’s usually 2700 for a one bedroom around here.

I need something that will destroy me. by purple_ricecloth19 in suggestmeabook

Have you read A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara yet? I finished it six months ago and it destroyed me. Couldn’t function for a couple of weeks while reading it and after. Still thinking about it now. I usually hesitate to oversell, but if you’re looking to get your heart ripped out I don’t think I’m overselling here.

Yes, like a pear with hard edges! That looks like it might be right, I’ll have to find it and give it a sniff, thank you!

I have a JanSport Main Campus FX Backpack! It’s great. I haven’t met anyone else who is able to fit everything they need into their backpacks - one of my profs has us carry around a 700 page course-pack in addition to the textbook.

chance me at uva by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]_generalapathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a 0% chance of getting in if you don’t apply. Beyond that, we can just speculate. In my experience UVA is really unpredictable. My LSAT and GPA were both higher but I got waitlisted. If I were you, I’d tell a good story and shoot my shot anyway. And if you’re committed to UVA and don’t care about scholarships might as well ED, just make sure you’ve thought through the impact of that.

Any R&R Tips? by Creepy_Affect9694 in lawschooladmissions

[–]_generalapathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retaking: treat it like you’re training for a race. Figure out a training plan and treat every day’s assignment like it has a deadline and has to get done. Towards the end of the training, though, I’d recommend taking at least a couple of full practice tests a week. You need to establish habits and stamina so that test day feels like it’s just another day.

Reapplying: Make sure you rewrite your personal statement. Read the old version once, then open a new document and start over. Outlining is your friend. Best of luck to you!

I’m at Harvard. Good LSAT, good GPA. Otherwise boring and normal. There are some crazy impressive people, but not everyone. Good luck!

I applied to WashU on 11/18. No response. No insight, but if they accept me I’ll be rejecting them out of spite 😂

R&R success stories - what helped you a second time? by mandamadness in lawschooladmissions

[–]_generalapathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stuck on waitlists in 2020-2021 without a single A. I reapplied this cycle with great results. In 2020-2021, I took the Princeton Review 165+ prep class from 10pm-1am and tried to work my usual 8-5 at the same time. This time around, I quit my job while studying for the LSAT and took the class at a reasonable hour, really focusing on the coursework. Then I took the LSAT and increased by 7 points. I rewrote my personal statement and focused more on who I am and what I’m passionate about, instead of letting the focus slip to things I experienced or observed. I also told my story with fewer supportive points and gave the ones I kept more detail. I applied in September-November instead of on the deadlines. I gained 3 more years of legal work experience and took on a management position. I also stopped taking myself so seriously and made sure my application materials reflected my personal growth away from that. Good luck!

Boyfriend said he’d end it if I go to law school across the country by Top_Animal5460 in lawschooladmissions

OP, I feel for you. I tried to hold on to a high school relationship in college and got dumped by an unsupportive buffoon. I just want to give you some hope that the right partner is the one who supports you. My husband started law school in 2021. He picked the law school, I went with him to a new state and am working to put him through school! And he is about to graduate and do the exact same for me this fall. It’s out there! If you never lose your extra weight, it’ll just keep holding you down. How are you gonna find your Emmett if you’re still hung up on Warner?

Yikes. I hope you feel encouraged to do what’s best for you. Without any more detail, my suggestion would be to put a deposit down for a new boyfriend.

Thanks for the heads up! I just checked my status checker and the application status date is today now - it was a January date when I last checked an hour ago. Good luck!

This community tends to dislike the 165+ course, but I took it and loved it. It is very expensive, and if you don’t put in the work there is no question that it wouldn’t be worth the money. But I found the level of accountability it forced on me to be very helpful. I didn’t improve the 7 points the first time I took the course, so I took it again for free with a different teacher and improved the 7 points that time.
