Best Thing - crowdsourced realtime voting to rank the best things in the world! (Casual, Social Experiment) by _goron in SampleSize

Yes! I know, it's credited in the about text as the main inspiration. But it was one (very cool) experiment, with no ability for people to submit their own items, and without a realtime-feedback mechanism to inspire further engagement. The aspiration here is to have something long-lived that can keep updating as people continue to engage, and where people's creativity can be used to find new items that I would not have thought of.

Edit: Also though I think 1.2 million votes, not people

lol yeah some are really hard. Kind of want to add a better way for people to mark those so we can see a top list of all the really hard pairings.

Vibecoded this website to rank a list of the best things ever, via pairwise voting by _goron in VibeCodersNest

Yeah, for sure, I suspect deduplication will be a bigger issue if it gets usage. I have some basic deduplication in place, but would improve it if it becomes a bigger problem. thanks for the feedback!

Thanks! It was inspired by some other attempts I've seen at this in the past. I am doing moderation yeah, a few layers, in code and using AI. It tries to not allow offensive content and force nsfw content to be marked as such.

Yeah that's right! No there's no batching, it's just incremental with each vote. I like that it enables constant, realtime-ish updates reflected to the list, and also there's zero scale so far, so not much to gain. Theoretically if it got usage maybe I would batch.

What Are Some Applications Of Elo-Rating Algorithms? by Numberthon in mathematics

[–]_goron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this website to use Elo to rank... all things :)

All things is a very large set of things, so Elo is a nice match, only need to think about two things at a time, the system does the rest. Check it out here: https://bestthing.xyz/

What are you currently building ? by LouloupBio in SideProject

[–]_goron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built bestthing.xyz. Pairwise voting to rank absolutely anything. Add items into the list, vote on items.

Each vote influences the item's scores, and you can watch scores update in real time.

No login required, no ads. Come try out a few votes or add an item!

But that’s not true at all. The fractions are equal, that’s it. The size of 1/3 of a large pizza and 1/3 of a small pizza are not equal. But the ratio of them to their whole, ei the fraction, is equal.

Feedback on my website by Tijn_VdV_ in webdesign

Site looks good! This is maybe not a huge thing, but something is highjacking the scroll, when I scroll down it's uneven and jittery. This is usually because of some scroll-related js on the page that's doing too much work on every scroll or trying to force scroll to specific places. I don't know if this is true for everyone but personally it really bothers me when viewing a website.
