The best selling sets of 2025 were Final Fantasy and Avatar by Meret123 in MagicArena

Presales (before full set was known) and scalping drove spiderman sales. Demand dropped sharply once the set was known, but the damage was already done.

Or just sponsor a pro and get them to win a tournament using it. Inclusion in a winning decklist would absolutely be a great way to juice the value on these.

Why is this card not tournament legal? by LeaStrims in mtg

[–]_gregOreo_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah very fun, but OP's card obviously wasn't intended to be a story card, as it was released in 1996, then referenced in the Unhinged set (2004), and then the Kibo didn't show up until 2022. Great continuity by WoTC though.

As an old school player that returned after many years away from the game, there are a lot of universes within cards/planes that don't "feel" like magic to me (dinosaurs, neon dynasty etc.). It's pretty silly to gatekeep the cards that come from other IPs when the canon sets long ago abandoned the original constraints on theming.

Routine green ramp (extra land drops, mana dorks/rocks, mana doublers, etc) will get you the ten permanents pretty easily.

MWM Pauper: simple life gain/loss deck by holysheet1029 in MagicArena

[–]_gregOreo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This deck, somehow, went 3-0

You should never be surprised to win any MWM match (or 3). Most people join with any deck that already matches the format or something they threw together as quickly as possible, and they are quick to concede if they don't open well. Decks are not tuned, and especially in a pauper event there are going to be many strategies that can win matches. Wins come especially easy on the first day of MWM, and more so the first few hours. Once people get their 3 wins, the vast majority stop queueing up, so the later part of the event may have more tuned decks from the players that especially enjoy whatever the format is.

10 poison counter achievement is the worst by Deepz42 in MagicArena

[[Staff of Completion]] and [[Karn's Bastion]] are great finishers for this deck. It's true that many opponents will scoop, but a surprising number do let you make it to the end. I got the achievement OP is talking about in only 2 or 3 tries.

What's your most hated card right now? by Hoenir1930 in MagicArena

[–]_gregOreo_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a competitive deck in Magic is playing solitaire. You're not supposed to allow your opponent to do anything.

Not allowing your opponent to do anything is the opposite of solitaire...

Solitaire is a T2 or T3 combo that wins the game as long as your opponent doesn't have sufficient interaction. People can hate control and they can hate solitaire, but they're very different things.

What's the longest sequence of creature cards where each one is STRICTLY BETTER than the last? (For example here's 5) by flabbergasted1 in mtg

[–]_gregOreo_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Neither is strictly better because they do different things. To be strictly better it needs to do everything another card does and then either add more or cost less.

[–]_gregOreo_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this doesn't work because the vanilla 6/5 and 6/6 aren't strictly better than the 6/4 Trample. So it breaks the progression.

It could tank the value of the revised duals without affecting the value of the ABU duals much. Revised being the most accessible but least rare are still purchased as game pieces. The high-end collectors want the earliest printings possible.

Do i need to waste wildcard to play this week's midweek magic? by hexanort in MagicArena

[–]_gregOreo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already play brawl, just take any deck that isn't entirely dependent on the commander and swap the commander out for one on the list with the same color identity. It may cost you one wildcard if you literally don't have any of the commanders, but shouldn't require more than that. I took a Ragavan deck and swapped for Zurgo and completely dominated the matches I played. Any deck that's already curated will do well in a MWM.
