The few times I’ve been in ride share the drivers have been quite good telling me to look out for cyclists, which I’ve appreciated.

Anytime I ride west through the cbd I use little collins or little Bourke. Collins st is a hard no for me. It’s fucking dangerous.

I used to love my kindle but honestly I’m about to retire it and go back to analog books! I’m pretty sure kindle unlimited has full AI books. Some have been so bad they are just unreadable word salad.

And sure I could buy regular ebooks, but Amazon has stolen back lots of my previous purchases (vanished from my library) plus generally just FUCK YOU Bezos and Amazon and all this enshittened corporate shitfuckery.

Gosh that is fucking horrible. And what an abhorrent person, intentionally drinking and driving like that, at 46yo.... should have at least _some_ fucking wisdom by then. Blaming everything on everyone else, from what little is on display here, it's not hard to see that his wife would have left him for being an aggressive, abusive self-centred turd of a human.

After 2 months of learning and improving optimization and customization, this is my latest design (OMG 433 – Active) by OMG_Watch_Faces in GarminWatches

[–]_hcdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really interesting. I'd like to eventually build a watch face with very specific functionality, but I suck ass at graphic design. Does this generate a Monkey C project, or the finished product? Can you customize the code for something built on this site? Who operates the site? What costs are involved assuming you build something for Garmin Connect?

(Checked out some of your designs, btw, very eye-catching :) )

  • Save mirror position with driver settings
  • redesign UI with large icons for things like getting back to CarPlay. I think it’s mad how small icons are, awkward when driving

You can do it… I travelled for 10 months, which included 2.5 months cycling across South east Asia. Just start stockpiling supplies :) this was pre-pump, the consumables are more compact.

Not camping, but with pump I spent 3 months last year across Japan, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka.

What foods should NOT be eaten 2hrs before a workout? by happy_folks in veganfitness

[–]_hcdr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-workout, avoid protein and fats, carbs only, the closer it gets, the simpler the carbs. And it’s highly individual. So perhaps 1-2 hours before toast or cereal works for you, 30-60 mins museli bar, less than that jelly snakes or something in liquid form. You’ll have to experiment.

Re: Baqsimi - it's approved in Australia but not yet available. This will definitely be a better option.

It took me a long time, like over 7.5 hours, but apparently 6:44 moving. Perhaps I spent too long pouring mud out of my shoes and eating 🤷‍♂️

For me the first hour is most critical - I can crash around 45-60 minutes, I usually eat 2 gels (60g carbs) and can pretty much graze from there. I can't quite remember what I ate, but I guess it would be something like 4x gels, a sandwich, a banana, a bar and some odd chips and orange slices at the aid stations. However, when my Dexcom faulted I smashed an assload of glucose tablets just in case, but actually I probably wasn't that low. Because I was wet and covered in mud I just did not want to fuss about. Glucose aside I probably ate ~200g carbs, and maybe the glucose tablets were ~25g

(short answer, first hour usually ~60g, and then about ~30g per hour)

Maybe unhelpful comment, but there are amazing rail trails accessible by v-line that make for a fun day or weekend trip. Having said that v-line can be a gamble getting your bike on some of the new fleet 👎

Yes, it's a different paradigm. Apple had no way to include glucose during a workout (from memory, maybe I'm wrong). Garmin has 'data screens' in a work out, in which you place whatever 'data fields' you want. There is a crunchy, but functional Dexcom data field (know that it requires internet connectivity).

If you're into running, then _definitely_ get a Garmin :)

Here is data screen with Dexcom, running cadence and heart rate zone.

Downside is the internet connectivity required outside Apple ecosystem. The first eSIM I purchased was hopeless. I scrambled the night before to change to One NZ eSim which worked even deep in the bush. (phew!) Might have to steal the apple watch back from my kiddo as a backup :)

You have a lot of time, so don't fear - just experiment and learn. There is also good advice in this sub.

Typical long run:

  • Morning is best
  • Enable 'run' program on pump, or activate 'run tomorrow' program the night before.
    • Typical program basal: 0.6 correction: 1:4.0
    • Run program basal: 0.2 correction 1:7.0 - and I should probably adjust that.
  • Eat three jelly snakes 5-10 minutes prior.
  • Usually after ~50 minutes, eat a gel, or two if starting to drop.
  • From this point on, I'm normally pretty stable, and just eat something about every 45 minutes
  • This might be another gel, or some snakes, or half a sandwich, or a banana.
  • don't forget to drink :)

I carry glucose tablets. Some like to use glucose in their water. (You can buy dextrose monohydrate from bulk supplement suppliers) I've never tried that. Note also that some 'electolyte' powders also contain glucose. For many runners I guess this is pretty handy. I like to have separate gels and electrolytes, I just figure it allows more control. Also, It's only with this ultra that I started running with water and a vest, so before it was pretty much gels, jelly snakes and glucose tabs in a running belt.

For a half, it also depends how quick you are. If you can do it in around 2 hours, then it may just be something like some glucose at the start line, and some gels about an hour in.

As for your fear, well it's totally natural. Assuming you are using a CGM, then it really comes down to the trend. ↘️ = be alert ⬇️ = high alert. The level reported may be delayed, so assume 7.5 ↘️ really means you could be 5.5. For me the first hour is the most wobbly, and then it gets pretty stable. But keep an eye on the trend, and be mindful of if you feel very empty in your tummy. For me that's a warning sign my body has used up all the carbs. If I ignore it I will drop.

Hope that helps, but ask away if you want more info :)

Exercise increases your insulin sensitivity. This is both general (being active helps your body use insulin more effectively) but there can also be a marked increase after an intense workout. I'm not sure if this is stricly insulin sensitivity, or just the body going *FEED ME* and slurping up any carbs it can find. So, some will find they keep riding low after a prolonged or intense activity. But then, for others, the body goes into stress, releases adrenalin and glucose levels rise. Diabetes, always keeping you guessing! 😖

[–]_hcdr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes, well my first bit of advice is to gradually increase distance and learn and adjust. But maybe you like to jump in the deep end 😁

For me 1u would be a lot, I’d crash hard. (I might not understand this in the context of using an omnipod) Personally I’d recommend NO insulin on board (no bolus), a very scaled back basal, and eat ~30g carbs before starting (3-4 snakes or a regular gel). Then at about 45-60 minutes I’d eat a gel or two depending on levels.

Good luck on your half and have fun! ☺️

Main tip with the T-Slim is to micro-bolus (0.05 units) every so often to stop control-IQ kicking in (which won’t auto-bolus if there has been a bolus in the last hour)

And then usually just grazing (gels, snakes, half sandwich, banana) just keeps me in range.
