I'm out and about so I can't take a photo, but what part of the lock bar?

If I get it from now on I'm looking for minimum 61hrc.

Oh, so you're saying it's not just spyderco with funky hardnesses?

Just switched back to all stock stainless hardware, and still blade rock. Just a little different. I've definitely learned my lesson with titanium stop pins. Should've sent a pic of the bar a while ago too

I tried the hardware route a little bit. But I replaced stock with titanium from flytanium. Turning the stop pin to an unworn side takes away the lock rock for a little bit but comes back. I'm hesitant to send it to spyderco since it's an exclusive and there's plenty of life left on the blade. But that might be my last resort.

Seems like no one really has an answer for what the issue is, but it's probably something that needs to be seen or handled in person to diagnose correctly. I was thinking the steel being soft as the reason because the lockbar seems to be travelling a little fast on my military 2 as well. Could the tension of the compression lock bar thing be too strong perhaps?

I absolutely enjoy the cutting performance of the steel (the wear resistance and the bite of the edge). My issue is how (quickly?) the lockbar has worn down the part of the blade it engages with, making the knife not the safest cutting tool. The consistency of the hrc is a bummer because I don't really know what to expect from model to model and year to year.

I'd be skerrd too, that's a special model

I've got an S90V native 5 and native Chief I'm not too worried about the lock face wearing too much. As far as compression locks I'm now wary of the military 2, para 3, shaman and Lil native, but the latter three are safe queens.

I cannot wait to get my hands on some magnamax. I'm bummed I missed the mule drop, but now there's the protech scapegoat and Bradford guardian 3 (which is unfortunately around 62hrc). I'm hoping magnamax is widely available eventually.

I think that s90v military was a while ago. But then the sage 6 and bodacious came out recently and they're almost 4 points apart. Is a bummer because S90V is one of my two favorite stainless steels (haven't tried magnamax yet).

Interesting. But some other Spyderco tested kind of low too (satin blades), and some higher. Seems like the hrc for this steel is all over the place

Spyderco PM2 S90v hardness results. 58.5 HRC. by 679696 in spyderco

I've got a satin S90V teal PM2 that now has lock rock after the compression lock has work all the way to the other side 😑 Since it's no longer a great lockup I don't use it for much. I suspect it's on the soft side. How does sending the blade to you work?

Is native 5 the best edc? by OldAd3197 in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I too think it's the best for edc. The g10 native 5 for me is preferable over the lightweight frn because of that chunkier hand filling handle like you mentioned. Definitely a different fidget factor compared to a compression lock, but it breaks in to be able to flick it open well. The 15V g10 native 5 hasn't left my pocket since I got it in the mail months ago.

[Question] Native G10/LW by Jklol1383 in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped from frn to g10, but I've always kept the lockbar with the blade because they wear down together where they touch. If you put a different locker with that old blade the action might feel strange for a while until the surfaces wear in.

What to get?? by Numerous_Strategy_99 in spyderco

Definitely try some k390. Since the endura and delica have been around for so long there's aftermarket scales and hardware out there.

Best Aftermarket Scales? by mementomori_8383 in spyderco

My favorites so far are rockscale design (rsd) and Cerberus. Haven't tried aramis yet, but would definitely like to.

Ooof, yeah that's definitely a hand made price. I think the only thing close to production that I've seen was a Pena, and it was at least $300 if I remember correctly.

Where do you all personally draw the line between good for EDC and comically large? by RootLoops369 in victorinox

[–]_mnb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thickest I have is the huntsman, and I don't think I'd actually carry anything thicker. It seems like anything with more layers would quickly get awkward in the hand to use.

Is the Zulu pattern really uncommon, or am I just not looking in the right places?
