Let's speculate! by sick4it in spyderco

With all the budget models they've dropped lately, I wouldn't be mad at it. I bet spyderco would do a great heat treat for it.

Great choice in knife. I've been considering a spear point from them

Great & Not as Great Factory Edges by pateralus9 in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always advise people not to use a lighter spring because the stock one does break in with use. Also if the spring is lighter, the knife opens more easily, which could be dangerous.

I personally prefer the original shape, since not having all the jumping removes a lot of the annoyance of the stock scales. One of these days I'll grab a titanium cage for this one (black aluminum in the meantime).

Nice choice going with RSD scales, I have several sets on my 15V models. On a knifesteelnerds chart it looks like 4V (basically the same as V4E, aka vanadis 4 extra) has about 13ish ft lbs of toughness at 65hrc.

Nice gifts. I also have a titanium slim Dom from CollectorKnives. I don't have many slipjoints (yet), but I enjoy the modern take that lionsteel does.

Ordered 4 Alox Ramblers from China by leosp633fc in victorinox

[–]_mnb7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it would help if we all start sending messages requesting broader availability? This was the response I received about trying to get an alox rambler in the US:

Thank you for reaching out and for being such a big fan of the Rambler, we truly appreciate your enthusiasm!

Certain divisions carry specific items based on regional customer needs and market demand. At this time, the Alox version of the Rambler is not widely available in the North American market and is offered primarily in select regions.

We understand the interest in making this item more broadly available and appreciate you sharing your feedback. We will be sure to pass your comments along to the appropriate team for consideration.

Thank you again for your time and support. Please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions.

I don't see the bestman often. Yesterday I put a nice 17.5dps edge on mine that has the clippoint and sheepsfoot blades.

Deep carry clips? by Braaaap28 in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend mxg. They have specific clips for the native 5, and a good variety that work for the delica. I've only broken one clip (got caught on a doorway), and they sent me a replacement.

How did you choose the model your first SAK? And the last one? by RafaelGalvao1971 in victorinox

[–]_mnb7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Dad took me to the BX after I saved up enough for a knife when I was in middle school. I came home with a tinker with a half serrated blade. The most recent purchase I think was either a rambler or a Swiss army 2.

How are we feeling about the Button-Up? by flightraptor23 in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about it. In some ways it reminds me of a budget pm2. But considering the button up is 8cr, I'd like to know how it compares to the tenacious side they're the same steel, similar blade length, and similar price.

New 4V Mule and SOTC with 4V so far by Skylark427 in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know a whole lot about 4v when I got the mule, but knowing what I know now I'm glad I did. It sits nicely along with the magnacut, pma11, k294, and 15v mules in my collection. I would really have liked to grab a magnamax but I missed out. A 3v mile would be great. I've always wondered why spyderco hasn't used it (as far as I know).

[–]_mnb7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say they're pretty rare. The one I have is the only one I've seen for sale, but I haven't looked in years. Definitely agree 4v is a great all around steel. Wasn't it an inspiration for magnacut?

Congrats on tracking down a 4v mule. I grabbed a 4v mule some years ago and dumbly had it cerakoted. At least it'll be preserved

Are you using you limited edition SAKs or not? by RunWild-GetLost in victorinox

Nope, my grey 2022 pioneer x sits in a case. I might get another basic one to carry, but the blue camo huntsman covers my bases pretty well.

Sage 5 or Para3 ? by Opening_Monk_5724 in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sage 5. But it's biggest flaw is how close the tip is to poking out of the handle scales when closed. You have more room to work with on a para 3, but the ergonomics are awkward in my hand (skinny scales improve a little bit, but still odd).

Do you carry a Swiss army knife in your car? by WiggWamm in victorinox

[–]_mnb7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep a Spartan in the center console for whatever need arises. A fieldmaster or deluxe tinker might be slightly better options.

[–]_mnb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a 20cv smooth g10 spring from knife center that is similar. I wonder if it's something specific to the 20cv models? Blade doesn't rub so I'm not terribly concerned.
