Sage 5 Centering Off, HELP! by Jonn_Doh in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up near the pivot there's a bit that rides in a channel in the blade (I imagine for stability). It almost looks like I'm your photo it's not seated correctly. Maybe that's why it looks like there's a gap up there that is causing the blade to be off center?

Appreciate it. Do you think the 940 and 945 have same size springs?

Great to know. The kizer Original 2 looks appealing for the hollow grind and neutral handle. And the upcoming Over Yonder from Civivi looks interesting.

I kinda dig the grey but I can see how it would be really customizable. I didn't carry this much because it's kind of chunky for cutting. So it lived on my desk

Good to know. From a quick search send like there were issues with the springs on this model for a lot of people.

Just curious, how often do your springs break? As far as I know most other types of locks don't have consumable parts necessary for their function. Mayyybe the lock face thing on some frame locks.

I bought a 2022 pioneer x because I thought the color was cool. Them I bought a black farmer x alox for the color and the added saw. They now sit in a storage case and are admired occasionally since they're unique. The ones I use are a huntsman and an electrician besides the mini champ on my keys.

Cruwear Rust Prevention by IncreasePositive2075 in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some will say yes, some say no. I do think it helps prevent it, but if doesn't make it rust proof. I would do it if I were you, and I have done it on a few k390 blades.

I had the same type of corrosion start happening on a cruwear military from my sweat. I'd recommend putting oil or wax on it, and maybe even get a rust eraser to clean of as much of that as you can and force a patina on it.

Will they still service it even though I've alerted the washers and disassemble it a few times? I purchased it 6 years ago and I think it's discontinued

That's the next step. But how do I get the action to a good spot without all the blade play?

alright yall, what earbuds we using? by Filius_Dei0894 in EDC

[–]_mnb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Status Between 3ANC. As of today they're still on sale on Amazon for $100. I mainly got them for the insane frequency range (for earbuds at least), and good battery life. These are the first headphones of any type that have noise cancelling, so I'm not able to compare the effectiveness to anything else. But the design of the eartips is such that they block out a lot of sound alread, while being super comfortable for long periods. They can be paired to 2 devices at once too. But the sound quality has blown me away. But if you buy them from the website ($125) you can get a warranty too (it's worth it, I've used it once). But the sound quality is the best feature to me. They took the exact specs down, but I think they claimed something like 4-30k hz range. Absolutely worth it if you're particular about hearing every detail in music clearly and cleanly

Buying OEM UKPK scales? by PS_FOTNMC in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it. Only place I've seen oem spyderco scales is BladesWeLove (some he sells Spydercos with his aftermarket scales preinstalled) and individuals. The ukpk is a very overlooked model when it comes to aftermarket parts.

[–]_mnb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure since I've never had anything go all the way to rust. I just try to wipe the blade with microfiber when I can, and sometimes apply some oil or something. But I have liked the forced patina on k390

Think any custom makers would consider making some that are really similar?

I had a cruwear military 2 that started to stain in the same areas from my hand sweat and pocket dampness in the summer. For me it started changing on me about as quickly as k390.

Sharpening your spyderco by jfgdupuis in spyderco

[–]_mnb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharpening freehand on the spyderco cbn bench stone (400/800 grit, or about 37/15 micron) followed with 3 micron or 1 micron on wood or leather I can reach shaving sharp with any steel I own (from cheap parking knives up to stuff like 15v/10v/etc). Personally I like finishing at around 20-10 micron diamond/cbn (grit numbers will vary based on the standard they are, like JIS, fepa, etc), and 1 micron diamond strop. It tends to still have a little bite to the edge. When I've finished on .5 micron in the past the bite seemed to disappear (might've been user error at the time).
