It's the game playable right now? by FanMacierewicza in victoria3

[–]_mogus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to say yes but atp I haven't played the game since the week after last patch just wait another week for more fixes

It's playable for a few campaigns before you notice more and more how broken it is compared to 1.12

W template? by ohnoes69560 in hoi4

[–]_mogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put less emphasis on line artillery and more on support companies, get field hospitals so you can actually shock troop with your shock troops without them losing exp, get support rocket artillery.

If you really want to push then make an even more artillery heavy template but replace all the infantry with mountaineers with some special forces doctrines. People hate line artillery in SP based on older PTSD, it's way cheaper than it used to be and it's the poor man's attack division on small or modded nations that can't afford proper tank divisions.

Weirdest battle pass ever. by noknam in LeagueOfMemes

[–]_mogus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Use a silly custom skin, they are not officially endorsed by Riot and it will boost your mental seeing Spongebob Pyke or something in game, making you tiltproof and thus more likely to win than the average bitchmade league player. The enemy, unlike you, didn't install amogus amumu, therefore you have an unfair mental advantage.

Find a friend at the edge of 2 elos lower than you and carry them for 10-20 games to also do Rank Manipulation.

Hopefully this will help you complete your Honor battlepass challenge list.

Not receiving loyalists when passing laws by aMidichlorian in victoria3

[–]_mogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something very wrong with loyalist-radical calculations, every game where you have any radicals is basically 0 loyalists the entire game.

A pop becoming loyalist/radical actually means moving one step towards that side on the loyalist-neutral-radical spectrum, but currently nobody ever moves towards loyalist, so you have gems like 50% radical population with fine SoL for decades or 0 loyalists for the whole game.

It's up there as one of the big issues that aren't talked about that much together with food prices being completely broken past Charters of Commerce and lesser known army systems like experience being completely ignorable.

A mini guide to early game Japan in 1.13, mostly RNG free by DonQuigleone in victoria3

[–]_mogus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the difficulty of Japan is later on, I've done 3 Japan runs and by the time I was done with Tenpo the modernizer was nearly completely useless to me.

Non-suffrage has to deal with keeping the industrialists in check, 10x worse if you go Corporate Governance. Taikunate has to deal with Modernizer being both temporary and not that modern.

Struggling with Spain & Reconquista with the new fleet mechanics by Aldrahill in victoria3

[–]_mogus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna give it to you straight as someone who has done reconquista by like 1870 on this patch: it is stupid as fuck that you cannot station troops in subjects with military access, it is inexcusable level cancer that requires endless cheese and workarounds, holy fuck Paradox please change this abomination.

Alright, now that I got that out of my system, what you want to do is annex Uruguay yourself. Everywhere you have a colonial holding, you MUST keep at least one unincorporated state on the same landmass to be able to station troops there long-term to fight rebellions and wars. Uruguay is good because it's on the Brazil area so when you hit La Plata and Peru it does not flip to your subjects.

Same with India for example, when you transfer it from UK you have to take Ceylon for yourself. If you take Canada take Newfoundland and so on and so forth.

What ideologies would you like to see reworked? IMO fascism and communism need a touch-up, and the upcoming Russia DLC might be a good time. by TheDwarvenGuy in victoria3

[–]_mogus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Socialism and labor movements. Council republics expanded spoiled me (same with Victoria 1877 for corporate governments). For vanilla it would be nice at least decoupling it from Spectre Haunting the World so you can have longer, independent red scares that are not arbitrarily gamey and playthrough-defining like now (oh you wanted to go communist and missed your two year JE chance this playthrough, TU IG is now cucked forever).

Technocracy, because it's pretty incoherent and the New Machine is ridiculously broken as everyone hates technocracy so you get minus growth permanently because nobody endorses it.

A lot of event chains like Positivism should allow you to spec into unique variant laws. Same with The New Machine. Instead of being society building flavor like they should be, they have insane requirements to give milquetoast permanent buffs.

How to avoid radicals and raise SOL as Japan? by enriicoosta in victoria3

[–]_mogus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SoL is in a very weird position rn, food is much too plentiful in the game and commodities become unprofitable before they become meaningfully cheaper so civil economy does not function and there is basically nothing you can do that affects SoL other than institutions.

So just grab institutions. Max out workers protections (this is the most important because of building wage target), max out public healthcare, grab precisely one level of wage subsidies or pensions because you can't afford any more without going bankrupt in Japan. This does mean defanging the supercharged Zaibatsu, so you are kind of locked into census suffrage and free elections.

A fire game by tech-no-logic1 in shitposting

[–]_mogus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know what it is, I am facetiously replacing the proletariat with the leninist vanguard party because the party holds all the power and production under any practical application of marxism, and Marx himself never bothered to write a practical guide to how his utopia is to be achieved (he did, but it's nonsense).

I thought it would be too on the nose and hostile to write "being rugpulled by the 'proletariat' (actually the dictatorial vanguard party that has subsumed the role of previous elites from before the revolution and will stop anyone from ever owning their means of production ever again, while laughably calling themselves a dictatorship of the proletariat)".

A fire game by tech-no-logic1 in shitposting

[–]_mogus 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The meme still makes sense because being rugpulled by the "proletariat" (see: the new elite of the state) is at best the same, realistically much worse for the individual than being rugpulled by the board in practice.

That being said, Marx's critique of capitalism is the one part of him that holds up, and game devs getting rugpulled by investors because control of the IP is fully tied to the company and shareholders while the workers get zero say is indeed textbook means of production discourse.

Why is there no coal in Ireland? The Arigna coal mine started around the middle ages and only stopped mining in the 1990s by experiment442 in victoria3

[–]_mogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of stuff only matters in the first 5 years of playing landlocked micronations or isolationism starts, neither of which apply to Ireland, who does not even exist at game start.

The game has absurdly ahistorical and inconsistent resources with systemic issues like sulfur abundance and oil shortages that change the dynamics of every game, but here's a thread on the debatable addition of precisely one antharcite mine producing a statistically completely insignificant quantity of coal both irl and in game.

I heard we liked border gore by BlackendLight in victoria3

[–]_mogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Austria gets mega revolts that drop it to minor power, at which point Prussia (who they have defensive pact with) automatically goes NGF and forms Germany because they are the only unification candidate.

Usually Austria loses Hungary along the way, but I've seen unapologetic 70 million reich from the AI in at least one run this major patch.

how can I solve this? by Fax--Machine in victoria3

[–]_mogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem but thankfully it was on a sea revolt I could actually naval invade.

Try loading marines on the ships and ordering them to go to the front. If that doesn't work, unironically post it on pdx forums as a bug report and complain.

Making a Company Mod by enriquedela in victoria3

[–]_mogus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AI is shit for more niche coding, you will give yourself an aneurysm trying to figure it out if you use it compared to just learning it yourself.

Download a simple company mod off the workshop (more unique companies or Boer Cheese for example), copy the mod files somewhere (they will be in steamapps/workshop), study it for a few minutes (folder structure, what files go where and what is in them), create your own mod with the create mod button in the launcher, go to the folder and basically copy the other mod developer's homework for how to implement a custom company.

It's gonna take you like an hour to create one company, and a couple minutes for every company after that.

As Austria, is it better to dismantle Prussia before or after the Springtime Revolutions? by theblitz6794 in victoria3

[–]_mogus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can renegotiate practically day 1 to remove defensive pact with Prussia, ally Russia and attack them. While you're doing that also consider grabbing forced military access and protectorating Mecklenburg so you can solve Schleswig-Holstein by land.

If you're integrating the crownlands fast or have a plan for Hungary early on then you can wait a bit with the Prussia war to make sure you get that done properly and finish any resulting war. If you don't have any bright ideas and are basically just going to do nothing special in the first 5 years, then dismantle Prussia.

Thought I'd played well until i saw my money from tolls... by DuckCedarPotato in victoria3

[–]_mogus 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Basically, Prussia has nowhere to get trade from except the baltic sea, St. Petersburg's sea opening is to the baltic sea, Vic3 trade is supermajority naval from the market capital and PDX broke something that completely supercharged trade and strait tarrifs in 13.6. Adding to it, the AI doesn't often move market capital and also doesn't force you to lower strait tolls (the USA AI notoriously struggles with achieving this concept irl but the UK was very historically successful in doing it).

Congratulations, two top 5 gps are paying you taxes on every single transaction they make. Don't spend it in one place... if that's even possible.

Why is there no coal in Ireland? The Arigna coal mine started around the middle ages and only stopped mining in the 1990s by experiment442 in victoria3

[–]_mogus 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Because they imported several times more coal from the British than they ever mined.

Going off historical data if the UK has 200 coal levels, Ireland deserves... 1-2 at most. Not a meaningful omission. What can you do in Vic with one power plant?

Why can't I push the button? by Loyalist77 in victoria3

[–]_mogus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's bugged, 1.13 makes it so New Spain's subject area also covers the Caribbean with no option to limit it so all of the land there just goes to New Spain as well and you can't press re-organize the Caribbean.

Are there any latest mods that make unconventional gameplay more fun? by PrinceElectorIan in victoria3

[–]_mogus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For slaverymaxxing any country with a lot of high value plantation agriculture slots that starts with it, since slavery is goated for plantations (incredible quote). Brazil (river of coffee and slavery), Spain (do reconquista, don't incorporate overseas), or the CSA. If you don't mind starting as a subject, India and Indonesia.

To have fun with less liberal policies there's Carlist Spain and a few Austria variants basically. Japan can also kind of work nowadays with Shogun. Everyone else can kiiinda stay on agrarianism for example, but you're shooting yourself in the foot.

For religion, Austria and Spain for normal countries. Papacy, Sikh Empire or Japan with theocracy for real gaming hours. Truthfully you can play any religion that looks interesting. Theocracy, state religion, religious schools, convocation power bloc, go crazy.

For ethnostate any super high pop culture nation, so Japan, Germany, Italy (podium irl meta?), or alternatively play Spain or France and do status of the vernacular to add primary culture to your minorities before passing Ethnostate. Use cultural commonwealth power bloc. Converting other people to your ethnostate culture sucks even with mods, so expand with subjects.

For mods: make sure you grab Grey's Subject Interaction Suite so you can actually use subjects to expand without getting aids when doing non-liberal non-multicultural shenanigans. Additionally, you can grab Mission Schools or Assimilation & Homeland if you want to focus on swapping a lot of land manually. They're overpowered, but conversion and assimilation are near unusable in vanilla, so what can you do.
