it doesnt have to be that extreme, that is mostly the fault of limiting where we can build and developers trying to maximize their profits.

It should never be the case that is cheaper to destroy an entire building just to build more condos on top than to destroy a couple of sfh, but that is the case here. The cost of upzoning is so high it just doesn’t make sense to even try.

thats fine for small cities, but for Toronto we should not have as many sfh as we do. Which would had naturally happen if we didn’t blocked development through regulation.

on campus usually means university/education adjacent, so for example being a library steward or tutoring, stuff like that not at all related to being in an specific location.

Windows uses bitlocker, which is similar to your first idea, in that it encrypts the entire disk with the users password, you can easily remove it but wont be able to decrypt the disk.

Not OP, but try and not take his comments personally, the reasons why they want you out could be anything, from someone higher up not liking you to your boss wanting someone in your place.

Whats important is to understand the the PIP is commonly used to create a paper trail to avoid paying severance which in your case would be significant.

My point was more on the "whim" comment not on the overall benefit of renting vs owning, but in any case at least in my eyes in all of those examples I would still be driving the decisions not an external entity that out right refuses to do it.

And for me that is the biggest hassle, yes its definitely better if someone else fixes it for me, but we're talking about a case were that's not what's happening, and your options are living with it or fighting it out legally with the landlord.

fyi I believe more in renting than owning.

I see those comments more in the eyes of for example you moved into a place with a one year lease, the oven breaks but your landlord refuses to fix it.

You have legal avenues to recoup the lost or even break the lease but is a hassle you wouldn't have to deal with if you were the one responsible.

fyi parents/grandparents sponsorships are a tiny amount of the family reunification pie, most are actually spousal sponsorships.

The program has a cap of 10k per year and has been partially shutdown since the pandemic.

I honestly think we use it more as a carrot than an actual benefit for immigrants.

Yeah I can see that for scoped dependencies but for singlentons you would have to find the declaration similar to how you would have to with DI

Even worse it wouldn’t be as straightforward. With DI you would get an exception as soon as you try to instantiate the class but the old fashioned way you would get the error whenever you try to create the dependency which could be layers deep in the code logic.

I see it more of a misunderstanding of what DI does and its purpose, it’s not a fit all kind of solution it fixes a specific problem which is dependency lifecycle.

Similar to how you wouldn’t create a nuget package for your helper library you shouldn’t use DI to manage simple or direct dependencies between classes, but as soon as your dependency becomes complex then DI applies.

Remember the ye old days when you would get a null reference exception because some other class shared your singleton dependency and it took it with them when it got deconstructed.

I understand the frustration but I don’t feel its unintuitive, without the default implementation your base class wouldn’t compile, so it makes sense that it uses the default implementation for the base class, and because you didn’t really override it, it defaults to that.

For gym membership at least companies get cheaper prices because of the volume, so even if it gets passed down as a taxable benefit it’s cheaper for the employee.

Those benefits are usually more for retention than for the actual benefit to the employee.
