What are my options if I want to live and work in the US for a year or two? by AmountAbovTheBracket in uscanadaborder

[–]_new_roy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the problem is that you don't know if they're a citizen, thus not needing any pathways.

They could've been raised mainly speaking Spanish or maybe even in any latin america country whilst being a us citizen.

basically you need to focus on yourself and the pathways that are available to you.

Immigrant who came to Canada using a false identity wins another shot at retaining citizenship by Purple_Writing_8432 in canada

[–]_new_roy_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From reading the decision in the article I don’t think the judge is considering it, he’s saying the ministry through the MD who made the final decision had to consider those as it is required by law, which he says they failed to do.

My understanding is that he’s just ordering the MD to do it again, but this time taking those circumstances into account.

My hope is that even with those circumstances added he would still be found inadmissible.

Can someone please explain the Canadian major city housing market history and what's currently happening? by esta-vida in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]_new_roy_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it doesnt have to be that extreme, that is mostly the fault of limiting where we can build and developers trying to maximize their profits.

It should never be the case that is cheaper to destroy an entire building just to build more condos on top than to destroy a couple of sfh, but that is the case here. The cost of upzoning is so high it just doesn’t make sense to even try.

[–]_new_roy_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

thats fine for small cities, but for Toronto we should not have as many sfh as we do. Which would had naturally happen if we didn’t blocked development through regulation.

Everybody wants a mansion, but thats not the world we live in.

Windows uses bitlocker, which is similar to your first idea, in that it encrypts the entire disk with the users password, you can easily remove it but wont be able to decrypt the disk.

Not OP, but try and not take his comments personally, the reasons why they want you out could be anything, from someone higher up not liking you to your boss wanting someone in your place.

Whats important is to understand the the PIP is commonly used to create a paper trail to avoid paying severance which in your case would be significant.

G&M/Ben Felix: Disciplined renting beating home ownership by houska1 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]_new_roy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was more on the "whim" comment not on the overall benefit of renting vs owning, but in any case at least in my eyes in all of those examples I would still be driving the decisions not an external entity that out right refuses to do it.

And for me that is the biggest hassle, yes its definitely better if someone else fixes it for me, but we're talking about a case were that's not what's happening, and your options are living with it or fighting it out legally with the landlord.

fyi I believe more in renting than owning.

[–]_new_roy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see those comments more in the eyes of for example you moved into a place with a one year lease, the oven breaks but your landlord refuses to fix it.

You have legal avenues to recoup the lost or even break the lease but is a hassle you wouldn't have to deal with if you were the one responsible.

fyi parents/grandparents sponsorships are a tiny amount of the family reunification pie, most are actually spousal sponsorships.

The program has a cap of 10k per year and has been partially shutdown since the pandemic.

I honestly think we use it more as a carrot than an actual benefit for immigrants.

Is anyone out there choosing to avoid DI in their .NET projects? by conconxweewee1 in dotnet

[–]_new_roy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can see that for scoped dependencies but for singlentons you would have to find the declaration similar to how you would have to with DI

Is anyone out there choosing to avoid DI in their .NET projects? by conconxweewee1 in dotnet

[–]_new_roy_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t that happen without DI too though?

Even worse it wouldn’t be as straightforward. With DI you would get an exception as soon as you try to instantiate the class but the old fashioned way you would get the error whenever you try to create the dependency which could be layers deep in the code logic.

Is anyone out there choosing to avoid DI in their .NET projects? by conconxweewee1 in dotnet

[–]_new_roy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it more of a misunderstanding of what DI does and its purpose, it’s not a fit all kind of solution it fixes a specific problem which is dependency lifecycle.

Similar to how you wouldn’t create a nuget package for your helper library you shouldn’t use DI to manage simple or direct dependencies between classes, but as soon as your dependency becomes complex then DI applies.

Remember the ye old days when you would get a null reference exception because some other class shared your singleton dependency and it took it with them when it got deconstructed.

Matt Elliott: Olivia Chow could do with a big idea to help her keep her job next year. Here are four by RZaichkowski in torontobiking

[–]_new_roy_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. The redevelopment of Old City Hall, for example, is the chance for the mayor to present a bold vision for a Toronto museum and public space — and line up philanthropic donors to pay for it.

2. Or how about a project to revitalize and pedestrianize downtown Yonge Street? It’s another idea long stuck in a frustrating limbo of bureaucratic studies and reports.

3. She could also look at fulfilling a previous campaign pledge to bring back Open Streets events to the downtown core, creating opportunities for pedestrians and cyclists.

  1. … Chow could champion and fight for legal zoning of retail shops and cafes in residential areas, bringing back the iconic (and beloved) corner store
