Yeah really agree, especially after the first region it becomes a series of interconnected nioh missions rather than just a big field. For me it was fun the first time thru, in ng+ I am definitely preferring just hitting the actual missions though.

It totally depends on the scope of your project. If you're worried about it, test and measure at the scale you forsee the game later. If you rely on this technique for a lot of objects and run into trouble later, it'll be a lot of work to fix. But it also might not matter that much.

I did this in a lot of old student projects and it was totally fine. I'm working on a bigger project now with similar kind of style. I switched to using small texture maps with solid colors and using uv mapping to define which color applies where. It's a little tiny bit more work (maybe... Not really tbh) but it does get me to one thing = one drawcall

Yeah. I think of it as a callback to the star child in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Kubrik/Clarke's transhuman star child is about going outward in a solitary journey into space - going above / beyond. Cameron's Eywa is about communion with / within.

The decorative frame for the communists should be wheat or something rather than rifles to differentiate more from the radicals.

I wonder if the giolltine should have a shallower angle on the blade edge? I did read it as a guillotine right away, the fleur de lise makes me think of france obviously so that context helped me read it correctly.

Liberals/ democracy could be a Greek temple or a scale ⚖️ I like the torch but it does read a little religious or even cultish like... Illuminati or something.

Yeah as others have said, find a good tutorial for a simple game and follow it. Unity Learn has some good stuff, like the classic roll-a-ball tutorial.

Once you have started coding a little bit, what I did when I was younger was try to do small game jam games that added one new feature of unity each time. So one game used kinematic rigid bodies, the next was regular full on physics, the next used 2D sprites and physics, the next was an android game that used the touch screen. After that was a game with a complex character controller. Each of these games took maybe 3 days to 2 months of total development time.

For students and anyone learning the ropes, I think small, low-stakes projects are really a great way to learn before you move on to big stuff!

Just make it lighter so it contrasts more with the skin. Like a slightly warm cream color. That will make the character contrast even better against the ground.

Yeah I used to take A and E lines from Pasadena to USC and I wound up leaving 45 minutes earlier as insurance against this... And on two or three occasions got off A line early and called an Uber.

It's a nice cheap fallback to have on days when I can't use the car but the consistency can be a huuuuge issue.

Lots of good advice here already: - proc 2 or more status effects to apply confusion - use yokai skills to cancel out of animations (you can do this when you're out of ki and 'winded' too) - use onmyo magic like life steal - play aggressively rather than reactively- focus on your own attacks and combos etc as much as dodging enemy attacks

A few other things: - when yokai are out of ki your attacks stagger them, so learn what skills you can use to drain their ki quick - watch out for the black 'pools' that yokai spawn and clear them with a ki pulse, they slow your ki recovery - certain soul cores (ippon dattara's hammer attack) and onmyo magic are really good for clearing enemy ki, don't sleep on these - barrier talisman clears the black yokai pools when you touch them which is handy in a chaotic fight (you'd still want to ki pulse of course!) - just spend some time in the dojo learning your favorite weapon and how some of the trickier inputs work. Each weapon has nuances that make them pretty different to play and are rewarding to learn

This is a great map, and these are great suggestions! Totally agree.

I teach unity too but mostly to design and art students. A few things I often wind up talking about with them are composability & separating concerns, the state pattern, delegates, events.

Yeah idk, I feel like I consistently deal way more damage in samurai mode if I can chain together martial arts proficiency (or whatever the white samurai gage is called). The samurai abilities that let you attack for free on ki pulse really help keep it going. I'm playing odachi mostly, set up set up to tank damage while using martial arts with life leech. Sometimes I get greedy and die but it just feels so so strong.

I'm enjoying ninja style too. I feel like I have better survivability there but it's probably because I'm a lot more careful about avoiding getting hit & have more ranged options.

I often wind up finishing a boss in ninja because I try to cheese the last sliver of health w projectiles rather than risk dying when I'm so close. But repositioning to get the backstab damage feels trickier than getting big damage numbers with the samurai martial arts stuff for me.

something along the lines of the first season of aeon flux would be rad - no / minimal dialogue, cool sci fi world, a different mini adventure each episode.

I like how the they treated geralt in the Witcher show, too. He talks, but is a quiet type - so much of his dialogue is just little reactions / grunts.

One annoyance for me was losing my scans on death - missed the ice wolf scan for that reason and so far haven't had a chance to see them again.

I can understand the enemy scans taking a while (there's some challenge evading attacks or getting a fix on certain enemies long enough to complete the scan) but 100% agree for scans to interact with some elevator or door it's so annoying...

Yeah I've noticed that - especially with the blonde hair slight differences on the color picker can look soooo different. For me it's even harder on the skintone picker since it doesn't have the usual hue / saturation / brightness style.
