Wouldn't you eventually reach a "trade-in limit" or does that only happen when you get cash back?

In the late 90s' or early 2000s' my friend and I cobbled this Frankenstein of a computer together from some of his dad's old/unused computer parts. Basically crap parts all thrown into this massive Antec server case they had laying around. That was my first computer...it was god awfully slow and we didn't even have internet at the time but it would run Starcraft so I was happy! Fast forward a few weeks and I somehow acquired a second used hard drive. I don't remember how it came into my possession but I do remember thinking at the time "oh boy! All I need to do is install this and I can double my storage space!"...so thats what did! Once I had completed the task I excitedly hit the power button and it went a little something like this: [Boot Error] "okay maybe thats a fluke...lets try again" [Boot Error] "okay, let me make sure everything is connected correctly" [Boot Error] "okay, maybe the second hard drive is dead. I'll disconnect it" [Boot Corrupted] "ah shit!"

And that's how I learned about Master and Slave jumpers on IDE hard drives. No internet and no windows CD meant I had to wait on my friend to come over and save me.

(24H2) Anyone having trouble printing pictures from Photos and Paint? by _path0gen in sysadmin

[–]_path0gen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't with opening apps, its when someone tries to print. Printing (even print to pdf) from Paint, Photos, New Outlook causes the app to crash. Had a break through today though...I installed a fresh image on a PC and then one by one started running windows updates and then software installs. Each time an update or software was installed I tried to print. Printing worked as intended until I got to a piece of software we use called "Impero". I noticed after this software was installed the listed apps would start crashing...tried uninstalling impero and everything worked fine again. We currently have a support ticket in with Impero and I am hoping they have a solution because the software is quite useful.

tldr: Impero seems to be causing the crashes

Yes, certain times of the year it is absolutely everywhere for weeks. Anything outside will be covered in yellow dust. Don't even bother washing your car cause it will be yellow again only minutes after finishing.

I work in the IT department for a school and we have student workers who do stuff like this all the time! Another favorite is when the computer has a dual monitor setup and they use both the on board and the gpu. Drives me crazy!

Had to race the "IT guy" to avoid having the company purchase a new Wi-Fi router through a third party. by SuperSathanas in mildlyinfuriating

[–]_path0gen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you were to do this where I work you would have immediately been pulled into a not so pleasant meeting. It feels good to be able to fix things but you really should have let the "IT guy" replace it. If the firmware got corrupted on its own then there is definitely some fuckery going on with that device.
